Little Rock Local History

Little rock is the capital of Arkansas. Le Petite Roche, as it was called by French explorers, is an actual rock after which the city was named. It served as an important landmark for boats pushing their way upstream. It became a major trading city in the 19th century.

War Memorial Park - West of downtown is this spot for picnics. The Little Rock Zoo is in the vicinity where animals roam in simulated habitats.

Wild River Country - This is a 23 acre water theme park with different water attractions. It is on Crystal Hill Rd.

The Old Mill - This city park is famous for its appearance in the opening scene of the film, Gone with the Wind. Two stones on the road to the mill in this park are original milestones laid out by Jefferson Davis, a former US president.

Flying Fish - On President Clinton Ave is this venue known for its catfish baskets. The po' boy sandwiches also seem to go down well and there is beer on tap.

Vino's - This venue caters for everybody which is reflected in the types of music that is played, folk, rock and alternative to the clientele who include lunchtime corporate business people to the pierced crowd who are hanging around at midnight. Located on 923 W 7yh Str, it is a brewery/nightclub that serves Italian fare that is quite good.

Slick Willy's - Taking its name from one of Bill Clinton's nicknames, this venue, located near the old train station on Markham Ave, has arcade games, pool tables, karaoke and live music.

Jaunita's - This has a busy schedule and has nightly live music. It is strategically located on 1300 S Main Str. The food is Mexican.
