Uxmal - This is a wonderful place to visit should you wish to learn more about the fascinating Mayan ruins. The town was founded in A.D. 700 and was home to around 25,000 inhabitants. The majority of the buildings date back to 700 and reflect an excellent example of Mayan art and architecture.

Merida Parks & Gardens
Park Centenario - This is a wonderful place to visit for a fun filled family outing. The park features a zoo which houses a large selection of fascinating animals, such as jaguars, toucans, monkeys and beautiful tropical birds. The zoo also features a large selection of shady trees which are perfect for a lovely picnic, as well as a range of beautiful fountains.
The park is equipped with a playground featuring swings, slides and a skateboard park. There is also a lovely little pond on which youngsters can enjoy a boat ride, as well as a miniature train and pony rides. There are also a couple of food stalls available, where visitors can get a selection of eats to fill the hungry tummies and candy floss and ice cream for a treat.
Plaza Mayor - The park is situated right in the heart of Merida. It features loads of large shady trees and park benches, which is perfect to sit and relax and reflect upon the busy day which has passed. The nearby Parque San Juan has a lovely kiddies playground, which is a wonderful place for kiddies to play in the sand and on the swings and slides.
Merida Restaurants and Bars
Arepera La Reina Andina - Situated on Avenida 5, entre calles 21 y 22. The cafe has been up and running since 1980 and is a firm favourite with both locals and visiting tourists. Their specialties include tasty arepas stuffed with anything from meat, fish and chicken to vegetables and cheese.
Fonda de Tía Mila - Situated on Avenida Principal Los Chorros de Milla. The restaurant is located withing the walls of an extensive property. The restaurant offers one of the most succulent and delicious traditional menus in town. Their specialty consists of a dish made of an Argentinian barbecue.
Azafran Cafa - The cafe is situated on Avenida Andres Bello, Local 104 and is a very popular dining spot especially with the young locals. The restaurant features a wonderful tropical atmosphere, being decorated with gorgeous bright colours and a collection of beautiful decorative plants. Their specialties include a tasty pita bread stuffed with meat or chicken.
Merida Bars & Clubs
Bodegon de Pancho - Situated on Centro Comercial Mamayeya. The park was established and opened in 1985 and is frequented by hoards of students and music lovers. The club offers visitors a superb range of music to groove to including the likes of salsa, rap and vallenato.
Harry's Beer House - Avenida 4 con Calle 30. This is a wonderful place to enjoy an evening filled with ice cold beer, an excellent assortment of music and great company. The place is usually packed with young people looking for a good party.
Stadium Sport Bar - Situated on Prolongacion Avenida 2. This is the perfect place to enjoy a large variety of entertainment. The bar is equipped with a billiard room, a dancefloor featuring excellent music and a sports bar with large video monitors. This is a very popular night spot with both locals and tourists.
