General information

The nearby city of Medicine Hat is known as the "Gas City" which is due to its abundance of natural gas. In fact the cities street lights are still powered by gas. Cypress Hills Interprovinvial Park seems almost to be a oasis of forest, filled with indigenous trees, and surrounded by the massive prairie landscape of Alberta. From the highway you should be able to see the massive 20-story-high metal structure known as Saamis Tepee. This tribute to Canada's indigenous peoples was used ceremonially during the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary.
