General information

For a change of scenery, visit Barrier Lake, just off Highway 40. It was created by damming the Kananaskis River, and is a popular spot for boating and fishing. From here you will have great views of the park. Take a ride into Calgary and visit some of the many attractions there. The world-renowned Calgary Zoo features over 1,000 animals which include many rare and endangered species. You will also be able to visit the Botanical garden and the Prehistoric Park. At the Butterfield Acres Children's Farm Family you can treat your family to a picnic or visit the petting zoos. Seasonal special events include the Legendary Easter Egg Hunts, Pumpkin Hunts and Hot Chocolate Hay Rides.

Nakiska, located only an hour from Calgary, was home to the 1988 Winter Olympics. The Olympic legacy of excellence is evident at every turn. The state-of-the-art snowmaking and grooming system makes Nakiska western Canada’s premier race centre. Being located so close to Calgary and Banff, Nakiska is a favourite family ski area. The moderately sized hill boasts mainly cruisy, intermediate runs with expert terrain near the top of the mountain and a selection of beginner runs at the bottom. The nearby Kananaskis Village, offers a variety of accommodation and dining options for those who wish to make a ski vacation of their trip to the hill.
