Banff Local History
The townsite was created solely as a tourist destination and the people who can live in the town are kept to a minimum. Banff National Park is Canada's first national park, established in 1885, and named for Banffshire, Scotland.

Banff Ave - Shopping is also centred along this main throughfare.
Banff Indian Trading Post - On Birch and Caves Ave, this shops stocks a selection of local crafts and Native Indian art.

Fort Calgary Historic Park - The children will love dressing up as a Mounties or doing time in a jail replicated from the 1800s. It is on 750 9th Ave.

Coyote's Deli and Grill - This restaurant has an open kitchen giving you a chance to see what the chefs are up to.The menu is southwestern cuisine and meals range from C$14 to C$24.The setting is hip and lively and the location is 206 Caribou Str.
Sushi House Banff - It is amazing what people in the restaurant business come up with in the way of innovations and ideas. At this venue on 304 Caribou Street, a train chugs around the sushi counter from where you can take your pick. It is on 304 Caribou Str.
Old Spaghetti Factory - Included in the pasta meals are bread and salad and prices range from C$8 and above. The meals are generous which has been found quite useful to those who have spent the day trekking in the mountains. The restaurant is in the Cascade Plaza in the Banff town site.
Banff Bars & Clubs
Wild Bill's Legendry Saloon - On 202 Banff Ave this is crammed any night of the week and can sometimes be as wild as the name suggests. Country and rock music rule the roost.
Rose and Crown - This is a British style pub and restaurant with live rock, darts and pool. If you are in Banff long enough, you will sooner or later enter this pub which appeals to most people, from the young to the young at heart. A rooftop patio opens in good weather. It is on 202 Banff Ave.
Salt Lik's - Big comfy couches and booth, lots of candles and soft lighting and a huge stone fire place make up the decor of this pub. If you are into that sort of atmosphere and the music that goes with it, o then Salt Lik's is for you. There is a varied bar and menu and the servings for both are said to be quite generous.
