Top Local Tips for Punta del Este

Experience Punta del Este in the winter (In South America April-September) Most people who visit Punta del Este do so in the summer months, because it is a gorgeous spot for beach going. However, I can highly recommend that you visit there in the dead of winter, but stay at the only hotel that is really worth it, the Conrad. Yes, it will be cold, rainy with, at times, high winds, but it is still beautiful and you can enjoy the spa, heated swimming pool and casino while the torrid weather goes on outside. Another plus is that the city is deserted. You have the pick of all the best restaurants, the hotels are quiet, and you can really rest. Because of business I have experienced many city in their "off season" for tourists and they are always more enjoyable.

LOCAL AIRPORT Punta del Este Airport is 20 minutes from town whereas Montevideo is one hour 30 minutes away. Pluna, the Uruguayan carrier flies in from Buenos Aires year round. Aerolineas Argentina only in high season. GOL the Brazilian line operates twice weekly from Sao Paulo to Punta. Be careful of descending from the bus which brings passengers from the plane to the terminal. The stairs are so high that elderly people can hurt themselves descending as my wife did.
