Punta Del Este The best time to visit Punta Del Este is the week before Christmas as the weather is good and it is just before the crowds arrive and the costs double

Shop at Punta Shopping instead of downtown touristy places for essentials We are generally not impressed with downtown Punta del Este - too touristy, too noisy and far from beach. If you are looking for beach supplies like us (since we just came from winter in North America), the best place to go is Punta Shopping centre at the Ingleso super market, prices are at least 100 pesos less on average! It's on Rosevelt and apparently where locals have their shopping done. Punta del Este is generally way more expensive already than Buenos Aires, so try to get normal prices at Punta Shopping instead of getting ripped off in downtown stores.

Taxis/cabs and restaurants There are few taxis/cabs in Punta del Este and they are more expensive than in Brazil, Argentina and other cities in Uruguay. be aware at night, otherwise you wil have to walk more than you would expect. Pay attention: on Christimas evening, taxis simply disappear and you don't find open restaurants, unless you make previous reservation.
