good bus service/ taxi just be aware of the street children..... they like to help ... themselves to your money.

Not an amazing city. Montevideo, differently from Punta del Este, its not a place I'm willing to get back. The best things include strolling by the ramblas (rivershore) and a meal in Mercado del Puerto, both being nice. All the other things I just don't recommend.

Buquebus Buquebus I have some caution about buquebus and i9ts operations. We took the boat from Buenos Aires to Montevideo and the ride is very smooth, easy and well worth it. The big problem we ran into was that buying tickets via the Internet is not so easy. We couldn’t buy them any sooner than one month ahead and it seems no one pays much attention to schedule changes... So having a ticket issued by Buquebus for a 1:00pm departure from Montevideo to Buenos Aires, we arrived an hour ahead to the port only to find out our ship had departed at 12:00... Management's attitude about what to do was less than helpful so we had to ask to get on the next boat, which departed at 9:00 pm. With the amount of luggage we had, this was a problem. We elected to take the buquebus overland bus to Colonia and the boat from there. This was not terrible but there was no reason to sell us a ticket with the wrong time written right on the ticket and then to claim that they sent a notice of time changes in October. We bought the tickets in October and no one tried to inform us of the time change before we left in mid November or after our arrival and our first trip on buquebus from Buenos Aires. In other words, they did not send us any notice. Be careful if you elect to travel on buquebus, a nice liner but one whose management is amiss in its customer relations.
