Floating Islands A visit to the floating islands is a must as it is surely quite a unique habitat and a very weird feeling walking on a bed of reeds. The people are very friendly and it all seems so colourful.
uros islands we took a private taxi to the uros islands, just my husband and i. we had booked an overnight at taquile and stop at uros with all ways travel, but decided to do it on our own because i was feeling a little sick from the altitude. because we speak spanish we hired the fast boat for 100 soles and they said they would take us to two islands. we stopped at the first one and very friendly aymaran indians greeted us and two aymaran men explained to us how they lived and a little of the history. they said 5 families lived there and when the talk was finished, woman and children uncovered five different areas where they were selling souvenirs. now we had taken candy, pens, paper, color crayons, etc to give to the children, and now they told us to please buy something from each family. so, we did, at super high prices, much more than in town. but we figured we would help them out more. they dressed me in their costumes, and we took pictures. then they offered us a ride in a reed boat....
uros take a tour to uros, we went on our own and really got ripped off by the aymarans. they pushed us to buy overpriced trinkets, took us on a boat ride and charged us before we got to shore, they never said there would be a price.......etc. not a good experience.
