i have heard this called the old lady, well to me it is the old horse that if it does not get some repair , then it should be shot and put out of it's misery. The place is smelly and the service is sub-par. The vaule of the hotel is not worth it. There are far better deals with better locations thoughout lima.

The location of this hotel is good, right downtown, but the rest is well under accepted standards. There is no shampoo in the bathrooms, the included breakfast is basically bread and butter with coffee and we had to change rooms because of hot water issues. At the very end, they overcharged us. When we confronted the staff the next day, they acknowledged the error but refused to refund the money, offering us a credit for a subsequent stay. When we asked to talk to the manager, we were told she only shows up sometimes and does not have a fixed schedule. A very bad experience overall.

It's a wonderful hotel. Spectacular food, great ambiences and it's very cheap since it's run by its employees. It's not as luxurious as it was 20 years ago, but it's great!

Top Local Tips for Lima

Keeping yourself safe and alive. Don't let the guides scare you, Lima is not that bad of a city where you have to risk life and limb just to walk down the street. All you have to do is use some common sense. Now, since I've recently been finding that common sense is all too uncommon, here are a few tips to get you through your stay in Peru. 1) Get yourself a money belt. Keep your money stashed in your belt and not in your pocket or purse. There's a lot of petty theft because of the poverty in Peru, so never take more money than you can stand to lose. 2) Beware of children and beggars. Children especially can easily surround you and go through your pockets without you noticing. Don't keep anything of value in your pockets! 3) Negotiate the fare prior to getting in to the taxi. This is the only way to keep from being overcharged. If you are at all unsure or don't feel safe, ask the nearest restaurant or hotel to call a taxi for you. 4) Keep a copy of your passport with you and the original locked away.

Stay in Miraflores Find a good hotel in Miraflores. The area is nice, safe and thats where all the action is.

L'eau Vive Restaurant near Plaza de armas run by nuns. excellent french food and Ave Maria sung by the nuns at 9.00 pm which they ask you to join in. Lovely friendly people.
