Top Local Tips for Georgetown
what to do Do a city tour and see the historical buildings- St George's cathedral and National Library amongst others and visit the museums and botanical gardens. 'Lime' (hang out) on the sea walls overlooking the Atlantic ocean and got to Stabroek Market- one of the oldest markets in the Caribbean- and get some lovely mangoes and other tropical delights. But rememeber, don't look too touristy with those fanny packs and cameras because like anywhere else in the world you can be a target for thieves or higher prices. While all that's good, as a Guyanese, I can tell you that you need to see Guyana's interior- fly to the majestic Kaieteur Falls or drive to Rupununi and experience rodeo Guyana style.
Out side Georgetown If you ever get a chance visit the Eco Lodge run by Nappi Amerindian Village. We had a great time there, saw lots of wild life and found the hospitality shown us by locals just amazing. It really is a FANTASTIC experience.
Be careful Do not walk around Georgetown at any time unless you are with a local as it can it can be a dangreous place, take taxis everywhere and don't wait outside wherever you are for it to arrive
