Fantastic location I look forward to a visit to Santa Marta every time I go to Colombia. The people are wonderful. I would plan my trip in February so I can also visit the festival in nearby Barranquilla. This is something one should not miss out on. The beaches in Santa Marta are not crowded and at night they really come to life with live music from the many bands that offer there services for a very reasonable price. I also suggest a visit to the tourist guide building located in the center of the beach walk. There are many day trips offered for a good price. One will not go wrong with a day trip or two on their visit. We rented a 3 bed 3 bath condo for $75.00 a night across the street from the beach. There was a shopping mall on the first floor offering everything you could want.
