Top Local Tips for Cartagena

Horse & carriage Take the horse & carrige trip to the old city. Have the guys with guitars play music while you tour. Awesome.

Watch out for 'extra taxes' Everything seems to include 'on top taxes' even after paying fully inclusive. Even things like the boat trip to Isla del Rosario (great trip if you want to relax on white sands and blue seas) takes more taxes so broker in extra money before you go (or check in advance). We had intended to go for the boat trip to the 'private beach' which was classed as price A, once you got into the pier you were then charged a tax before you could sail. As this 'tax' then broke the limit of our funds we had to settle for the public beach. Perversely in a boat of 16 people, 12 people got out at the private beach and 4 at the public beach, 4 people on a beach to ourselves! Great! Best of all the sellers at Isla del Rosario are not as pushy and feel much more honest, they explained if tourists had items stolen then they would not come bakc and the islanders would lose a lot. Makes sense!
