Top Local Tips for Cartagena

Beware of lonely streets and alleys. Cartagena in Colombia is a lovely coastal resort especially the walled old town where we stayed. We felt safe most of the time and only had one incident when my husband felt someone fiddling with the zip on his back pack, but that can happen anywhere, but we walked around the old castle walls one day and found ourselves in a very quiet part of the town. We noticed two men standing on the wall and as we passed they started to follow us as we increased our pace they followed and it was only luck that we encountered a party of tourists around the next corner , they immediately turned around and ran off. Just be aware and keep your wits about you.
