Top Local Tips for Santiago

Safety Although my husband and I did not experience any problems, we met people in our hotel and on tours who had been robbed. One couple were on a tour bus and a couple of young girls got on the bus, quickly went through taking items from the overhead compartment and were gone before people realized what had happened(passports were stolen and they could not travel on the their cruise). Another couple were trying to get money from a bank machine and their card disappeared in the machine....hundreds of dollars was stolen. It turned out that a 'phony' card reader had been set up.

The Provedencia neighbourhood is 5 minutes away Go out the front entrance not the back one where you´ll probably get dropped off. Once there you only need to walk over the bridge and walk down about a block and you´ll be in the heart of Provedencia, a great safe little Barrio.
