Muggers watching all around Rio is a fantastic place if on an organised trip. Once left to our own devices we foind that there was very little to do that was safe. Don't wear any jewellery or have any bags / camera's on you. We had nothing on us (only a wallet hidden in my boyfriend's pocket) and were still mugged at knifepoint. We also heard gunfire whilst at Carnival strip and saw a dead body in the road whist being driven around in our tourbus. After our mugging we also found out that a taxi with tourists in and been held up at gun point. The sights in Rio are amazing and I wouldn't want to put anyone off visiting. Sugar loaf mountain had the best views ever and the city we were looking down on looked so cosmopolitan and exciting. We were however very disappointed once in the city and felt very uncomfortable. I know we had a particularly bad experience but the rest of our party also felt uncomfortable with their 'free time' in Rio.

Weather during carnaval In that time, Rio is kinda foggy and rainy. If you go there just because of the carnaval, then it doesnt matter. But if u want to look for the beach and sun, don't go during carnaval season, not that much sun up there.

Around Rio So many horror stories abound about Rio not being safe - but we experienced no problems - maybe we were just lucky.We did however take reasonable precautions when out and about. We totally enjoyed Rio - don't let the stories deter you.
