When to Go Vitoria (and Espirito Santo as a whole) is where the Brazilians go for their summer vacation (especially Brazilians from Rio and Sao Paulo). During carnival, many Brazilians from Rio come here to escape the craziness of their home city. Because of this, prices are considerably higher during the summer months (December - February). Weather is also quite hot and sometimes very humid during this time of year, as this is a semi-tropical climate. By March, things have quieted down, and the beaches are not crowded. I would recommend March - April and December - January as the best times to go. Further, be sure to check out the beautiful beaches north and south of Vitoria, including the red-sand beaches of Jacaraipe north of Vitoria in Serra, and the black (mildly-radioactive) sands of Guarapari, considered one of the finest beaches in Brazil. You can take a local bus to Jacaraipe, and a cheap regional bus to Guarapari. Also, be sure to explore Domingos Martins about an hour west of Vitoria.
