Lousy service ensured we didn't even go there!

We booked a stay at this place from our Rio hotel including a transfer from Rio to Buzios - but the Hibiscus Beach managed to show up way to early at the hotel with the wrong name and room number for us, abusing the hotel staff and then leaving without us. When we called the place to find out what had happened the management as it turns out was anything but interested in correcting their mistake let alone coming up with any useful way of arranging a new transfer. Eventually we cancelled our stay here and in stead booked the Casa Brancas - the most fabulous place in Buzios. Have to thank the Hibiscus Beach for this!

The Icing On The Cake

We have just returned to the English winter after a three week holiday in the Rio de Janeiro area of Brazil. We enjoyed Rio, apart from the noise, bustle and crowds. Paraty and Ilha Grande are really beautiful, but for us the icing on the cake was our week long stay at Hibiscus Beach in Buzios. Buzios is amazing, and now we know why so many foreign tourists go there. Lovely beaches, great restaurants, and a nightlife that begins around midnight and goes on till dawn.
In Buzios, we chose Hibiscus Beach, because it is recommended in all the guide books, and is everywhere on the internet. Our bungalow was the highest one of all, and the panoramic view of the tropical valley and the blue sea stretching all the way to the sky, took our breath away. The hotel itself is clean, comfortable, and the area was very quiet at night, considering that the town and beaches were heaving with people. What we especially liked was the fact that the staff speak English, and helped us a lot in arranging boat rides, diving, renting a buggy, and provided a lot of useful tips. They also arranged a transfer back to Rio, with English speaking driver at a good price.
Here we are, back at work in England, but our minds float back to Brazil, and especially that view from our terrace at Hibiscus Beach.

Would rather have slept on the beach

Don't get us wrong. We love Brazil, Buzios is a beach lovers paradise. Too bad our hotel choice in Buzios sucked. We would linger on the beach and town as much as possible not to have to return to our room. We picked the Hibiscus mainly because of the many "great" reviews on this site so that is why we are making sure our experience is documented. The Hibiscus was a grimy rundown dump. I wouldn't recommend it to my mother-in-law.

This is a false review, written by the same obsessive individual who for almost a year now has been sending in defamatory comments about the hotel, ever since he lost a financial dispute with the hotel management. Fortunately, our many satisfied guests have, and will continue to rally to our support against this smear campaigner.

The Ideal Getaway

I am very familiar with Hibiscus Beach because I used to manage the hotel next door for several years. I now work as a travel operator in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Every year my company sends many guests to the hotel, and either myself or one of my staff does a regular inspection to ensure that the high standards of cleanliness, maintenance and service are kept up. My last visit was three weeks ago.

It is impossible to believe, therefore, the one or two reviews which are claiming that the hotel has insects and is not clean. This is simply untrue, and the reviews must have been written by someone seeking revenge.

Hibiscus Beach is very well known by travel operators and agencies in South America, and it has an excellent reputation. It is a beautiful and quiet small hotel, with wonderful sea views, and great service at a reasonable cost.

A hotel you can depend on

I have stayed several times as a guest at Hibiscus Beach, including a week-long stay in October, 2005. I own a travel agency in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and for years have been sending guests to this hotel.

Hibiscus Beach is very well known amongst travel operators in Argentina, and the hotel receives hundreds of discerning guests every year from Argentina.

The remarks contained in one or two reviews on this site, claiming that the hotel is dirty and has insects are completely untrue. I can only think that these comments must have been written by someone who is trying to cause problems for the hotel.

The only complaint that I have ever heard about Hibiscus Beach, is that it is difficult to obtain reservations in the High Season, because it is nearly always fully booked. Highly recommended.

Bed Bugs!!!

This was a real downer. Fortunately, we only scheduled 2 nights here. We had bites after the 1st night, but we didn't see the critters until the next day, so we only had one squemish night knowing we were sleeping with a couple of parasites.

This is the latest effort by the serial smear campaigner, who has been trying to damage the good name of our hotel for several months. The problem arose in February 2005, when the guest in question was proven to be mistaken in a financial dispute with the management.

This review is entirely false, it contains a photo of what looks like a ladybird, and it could have been taken anywhere, including in the reviewer's house. This malicious review should be disregarded.

Wanted to like it

Abosulutely abysmally filthy. I've stayed in better campgrounds. The area is perfect. Great beach. But if you're thinking of staying at the Hibiscus just say "No". We checked out after the 1st night even though they insisted on charging us for the our other 2 reserved nights, but my husband said he'd rather sleep in the car if that was the only other choice. Instead, we got a great room at another hotel, Byblos, which we highly highly recommend.

Unfortunately, this is a false review, written by a previous guest who had a disagreement over payment with the hotel's management. Driven by spite and revenge, this person has been writing damaging reviews about the hotel.

This review is untrue and written in bad faith.

My favorite hotel

We are from São Paulo. Every time we go to Buzios we always stay at Hibiscus Beach. It is very close to the best beach, Joâo Fernandes. On the beach there are very good restaurants with fish and sea food.
When we arrive at the hotel the people who work there know us. They are always very happy and give us big smiles. My sons like to play in the big garden and swimming pool.
Last time, I took some photos of Hibiscus Beach. I want to show them to people around the world.

Low Season Chic in Buzios

This was our third holiday in Buzios, but this time we wanted to enjoy the quiet charm, and old fishing village atmosphere that the small town used to be famous for. For this reason, we decided to go in August, a month when few tourists are around in Brazil, and we wanted to stay in a typical small hotel, rather than in one of the characterless concrete blocks that have started to appear there.
After surfing the internet, we opted for Hibiscus Beach, and our choice could not have been better. We stayed in a private bungalow, nestled in the colourful garden, and spent many quiet moments on our veranda watching the fishing boats glide past, and sipping drinks from the well stocked mini-bar. The service at the hotel is warm and friendly, and the breakfasts with mango, papaya, pineapple, melon, watermelon, bananas, juices and a variety of delicious fresh pastries and cold cuts, will be hard to forget.
The staff helped us to arrange snorkelling in the clear waters at the local beach 100 yards away. They also arranged a private car to take us back to Rio Airport at a very reasonable cost. It will probably be a couple of years before we get back to Buzios, but when the time comes, we will definitely return to Hibiscus Beach. Strongly recommended.

Unforgettable days

We would like to recommend a hotel in Búzios called Hibiscus Beach. My wife and I stayed there for a week in July 2005, and we had a marvelous holiday. The hotel is on a quiet street, just 100 meters from the beautiful Joao Fernandes Beach. We really enjoyed watching the birds in the beautiful tropical garden around the pool. The hotel rooms have a lovely sea view from their balconies, and we were impressed by the service, and how clean everything was. The staff and owners are very friendly and helpful, and they made our stay a holiday to remember.

A Real Gem

We recently returned from a wonderful holiday in Brazil. We spent a few days in Rio and then visited the beautiful resort of Buzios, where we stayed in this lovely pousada. We found it a fabulous place to relax and unwind after a hectic visit to Rio. The staff were wonderful, giving us really helpful advice and suggestions on places to visit, as well as ensuring that we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. Just a short walk from the beach the hotel was ideally situated. Our room was lovely with a veranda over looking the sea and I particularly liked the tropical garden which was filled with bougainvillea, hibiscus, frangipani, papaya and banana trees and much more.

I would recommend staying in this marvellous gem of a hotel to anyone who wants to relax in a truly beautiful setting with excellent service. A real find!

Top Local Tips for Buzios

Nice hotels I have stayed at the Buzios Beach Hotel , and the San Francisco, I would reccomend these hotels highly, I am sure that there are many other nice hotels in the area but I have stayed at these and fell in love with the scenery available at both of these .

Getting around If your baggage is small, then you can take a bus from Rio (about $10 one way) and once you arrive in Buzios, take a small minivan (they drive on the main routes - Center to Joao Fernandes) for $1 or so, tell the driver your pousada, and you'll be there in 5-10 minutes (I am referring to Joao Fernandes beach).

Make sure you can drive a manual transmission Everyone in buzios seems to rent little buggies to get around the island. They're a great idea, because you can visit the more secluded beaches and get easily to downtown. But they only have manual-transmission buggies - so if you're from the US and only drive automatic it can be quite a problem! :)
