Top Local Tips for Puerto Iguazu
Guides Do not bother to hire a guide, our "English " speaking guide was not at all informative....we wanted very detailed info about the flora and fauna, she was nice but not really that familiar with the detail of a guide. We spent more money than we should have..and could have toured the park and falls on our own as the site is very well marked and a pleasure to visit!
Falls and more It takes about 25 - 30 minutes to get to Iguazu Falls, either the Argentine or Brazilian sides, by taxi. This is however relatively cheap. The Falls cannot be missed as they are fabulous. You will need a whole day for the Argentina side and perhaps half a day for the Brazil side. If you only have one day do the Argentina side and be prepared to do a lot of walking. There isn't much to Puerto Iguazu but it is a pleasant small town. Most people overlook the town and only use it a base for visiting the falls. It is worth taking time to visit the viewpoint at the edge of town where you can stand in Argentina and look across the river to Brazil and Paraguay.
Before you die, you must visit Iguazu! Save a day to explore the rainforest, and do take the boat under the waterfall. It is great fun getting soaked by warm tropical river water! The First Peoples sell nice crafts at good prices at the entrance to the park. Be sure to patronize them.
