A friend and I arrived in Gualeguaychu to celebrate Carnaval without a reservation at 10:00 PM on a Friday night. The tourism bureau at the bus station called a few hotels and said Hotel Brutti had availability for 150 pesos (about $45 US) a night, with an air conditioned room and private bath. So, we took it.
We arrived shortly later and were told no air conditioned rooms were available (even after the tourism bureau confirmed there were). There was a ceiling fan and we wouldn't be spending much time in the room so that was OK. I gave them my VISA card and they said they did not accept credit cards (even after the VISA and Mastercard LOGOS are on their window). I had to go to an ATM to withdraw cash.
The next morning, the toilet flushing mechanism broke. We notified the front desk and the woman told us she would do her best to resolve it. When we returned later in the day, the toilet still wouldn't work and the manager on duty told us that it was the weekend and no plumber was available.
I asked what we could do and he suggested we use a toilet in a restaurant before we go back to the hotel. Well the next day, the toilet still had not been fixed and on Sunday at checkout we mentioned this and the woman told us there were no notes in the hotel book about a broken toilet. I asked if I could receive a discount and i was told, "You are paying a very good rate now, so no."
I understand Carnival weekend is a busy weekend for everyone in the town, but the service we experienced was very poor, especially considering the rate we paid.

Older hotel that has been remodeled. Clean and cheap (even durning the carnaval season). Onwers very friendly, but no english. Well located in town. Close to the port beach and also to the shopping district. No internet in Hotel, but a internet cafe is one block down the street. Biggest knock on this hotel is the showers in the room. They are not separate from the rest of the bath. Thus, the tolet and bide get wet when a shower is taken. If you are going to see the carnaval, skip the exspensive VIP section and get front row seats in section 'b'. This way you can get pictures taken with the parade dancers.
