How to get to El Chalten Buses run to El Chalten from El Calafate. You can pre-book your bus by going through local hostels in El Calafate. We went through the popular America del Sur hostel who also has a location in Buenos Aires. The folks at America del Sur will help book all of your hostel stays (if you need), or just the bus passes and tours if you need. They're very helpful-- Mariana was the lady I worked with. They also booked our hiking guide for when we got to El Chalten. The bus ride takes a good 5-6 hours and it's over rough roads with no paving for a good portion of it. Make sure to pre-book and not just show up, because during high season-- Dec-Jan, buses are full and they take tickets and check closely. No room for error here.
