Leave expensive watches or jewelry at home or in safety deposit box Buenos Aires looks like a standard European city in many regards where one uses reasonable caution as traveling as a tourist. However, in BA, one has to use stronger security precautions! We were repeatedly told by our concierage or private tour guides, that there are roving thieves who will, even in the middle of the day in a tourist section, forceably take expensive, flashy looking jewelry. handbags and watches. The apparent method is that a group will crowd you (even if you \ a strong man), and force you down and take the desired item off your person. On our last day in BA, we heard about a woman and her daughter at the San Telmo Sunday Fair (tourists who were visiting family who worked at the US State Dept), who had her handbag cut off, and the thieves ran off with the bag. Before going out, we put all watches, etc. in the safe deposit box (would have been easier to leave them home) and headed out worry free.

Two great upscale restaurants For great Italian food, do not miss Piegari in the Recoleta district. Make reservations though. The pasta is amazing. For trendy fusion cuisine, try Le Bistro at Hotel Faena, the king crab with avocado is delicious as are their desserts.
