Moreno Hotel a Buenos Aires hidden Treasure
from kittkatt24New Hotel
from Andrew13Which brings us back to our return to Moreno - we told them what happened - the staff (particularly Juan Pablo and Diana) were SO concerned about the incident and our comfort that we felt much better, at least relatively.
They (and Guido and another Juan) took care of all dinner reservations, tango shows, cabs, etc. to make sure the rest of the stay was as nice as possible. And you don't have to be mugged to be treated well, they were great to all guests!
The Extra Large room was really good size and had steady (and free) wireless internet connections which was great for the two computers we had.
Their dinner recommendations were very good and Moreno turned out to be a good place to be based in as we checked out other areas (including Palermo and a return to the scene of the crime in Recoleta). Don't let first impressions throw you - both of the neighborhood (which turned out to be fine) and the entrance (which looks narrow and doesn't do the place justice) - this is a great place!
Nice as the facilities were, what sets this apart is that they were the most service-oriented concierge people I've come across. Thanks to all for making the stay - which got off to such a horrid start - ultimately a good week!
Feeling pampered in your home away from home
from serenityseekerFLThe only complaint that I would have about this hotel is the breakfast. The breakfast was the same everyday and this got a bit old...but that being said, it was yummy...just the same.
Ok, one final rave...my birthday was about a month after my stay. The hotel even sent me a birthday email...yet another testament to the level of detail of service provided by the staff at this wonderful hotel. You won't be disappointed!
Argentinean hospitality at its best!
from baikalasRooms are large, luminous and most importantly very clean. The staff is amazingly nice and helpful. They really do their best to make you feel welcome.
Hidden Gem
from GlindabaAnyone wanting to experience “real” tango and not the dreadful touristy shows at the Tortoni and the like should try [--] – they will have you dancing after a few lessons and initiate you into the etiquette of proper milongas. Highly recommended.
best kept secret
from Alessii22Other reviewers are right, the rooms are HUGE. The terrace is stunning, and a great place to sit and relax and read.
Some good restaurants are very close (less than 200 meters), and the Plaza de Mayo is one block away. This is a very good hotel - you will not be disappointed.
´ve ever been !!!!
from Luke011Love It!
from charly_jayGreat little place to chill out
from Boo19While it appears to be aimed at the business traveller, the rooms, which are pretty generously sized, quiet and complete with LCD TV, wi-fi, reasonably priced mini-bar, sink/coffee area and fainting couch, have a cosy, personal feel, and its central location near San Telmo and Plaza de Mayo made it really convenient to get to the major tourist attractions. Also, buses and trams that go to Palermo, Recoleta and La Boca are within walking distance of the hotel.
As for the downsides – ironically, the major downside about this place is its location – be prepared for your taxi driver to miss the hotel completely because it kinda lacks a proper entrance and is only accessible from a busy little grotty side street, meaning you’ll be holding up traffic as you unload your luggage. The area isn’t the nicest place in San Telmo, and may be a little intimidating at night if you are a solo female. Ditto the view from the rooms–ours looked out onto urban decay. Also some of the design touches are not practical, like the cool-looking bathroom sink, which splashes everywhere because the bowl is too shallow, or the old school alarm clock that needs winding up every day or won’t keep time.
If the soon to be completed rooftop Jacuzzi, restaurant and theatre pan out, it promises to host excellent facilities. At the moment however, the place lacks all these, including the restaurant but that meant we got breakfast in bed every morning (!) and there are many cafes and eateries nearby. Plus the staff were happy to arrange for meals to be delivered from outside.
All in all, this is an excellent place to be based in if you want go out and about and do all the touristy things or if you just want to stay in, unwind and not feel guilty that you’re in a foreign city and not out sightseeing.
Moreno Hotel
from YanineThere is both wireless and cable Internet connection in the room I had, and a comfortable desk to work. The room has individual controllable air conditioning. The hotel is modern and clean – I think they just opend. Breakfast was also good.
I would definitely stay here again.
Top Local Tips for Buenos Aires
Attraction Info-Via Cell Phone in BA If possible, rent a cell phone while you are there. Many attractions have a concrete tile on the sidewalk in front of them with a number that you can call to hear description, etc of the attraction. We were wishing we had done this once we saw these tiles-not sure if they're only in spanish though.
San Telmo It's an obvious tip - but Sunday is really special there. Even though there are hordes of tourists, it's a really pretty and fascinating market.
Check out La Puerto Rico cafe as an alternative to touristy Cafe Tortoni Just a five min walk from The Moreno Hotel at Bolivar 319, this cafe has been around since 1887 and provides a very pleasant atmosphere and more local feel than Cafe Tortoni.

The room we booked was excellent: very spacious with high ceilings and many windows. The staff was very helpful, friendly and pleasant, and served us a really nice breakfast in the room.
We will definitely stay there in our next trip to Argentina!
