My boyfriend and I spent two nights at Moreno and we wished we had spent an extra night there… It's a really nice hotel with a first class attention and good rates! Excellent value!

The room we booked was excellent: very spacious with high ceilings and many windows. The staff was very helpful, friendly and pleasant, and served us a really nice breakfast in the room.

We will definitely stay there in our next trip to Argentina!

Moreno Hotel a Buenos Aires hidden Treasure

from kittkatt24
This Buenos Aires hotel is a treasure. The rooms are spacious, clean and beautiful. What really makes this hotel a standout is the staff. Their professionalism, and helpfullness was first rate and that of any five star hotel i've visited. Guido, Juan and Diana are absolutely fabulous ambassadors of Hotel Moreno and Buenos Aires. I would have no hesitation recommending this hotel to anyone. It is a little off the beaten path but with taxis plentiful and affordable the location is not a deterrent. The Sunday Street Fair on Defensa is a must. In addition to the street fair on Sunday, Defensa is lined with restaurants, bars, art galleries and boutiques. Just lovely.

New Hotel

My wife and I spent a long Thanksgiving weekend in Buenos Aires. When we checked in, thought the room was great but the San Telmo location a bit sketchy. But when we were shopping in one of the seemingly safe ritzy areas of BA (Recoleta - by Four Seasons and Cartier store) - we were MUGGED by two guys on the street with a third driving the getaway motorcycle. They got her watch but nothing else - though totally shook us up and angered us with the nearby policemen's total nonchalance in doing ANYTHING about it.

Which brings us back to our return to Moreno - we told them what happened - the staff (particularly Juan Pablo and Diana) were SO concerned about the incident and our comfort that we felt much better, at least relatively.

They (and Guido and another Juan) took care of all dinner reservations, tango shows, cabs, etc. to make sure the rest of the stay was as nice as possible. And you don't have to be mugged to be treated well, they were great to all guests!

The Extra Large room was really good size and had steady (and free) wireless internet connections which was great for the two computers we had.

Their dinner recommendations were very good and Moreno turned out to be a good place to be based in as we checked out other areas (including Palermo and a return to the scene of the crime in Recoleta). Don't let first impressions throw you - both of the neighborhood (which turned out to be fine) and the entrance (which looks narrow and doesn't do the place justice) - this is a great place!

Nice as the facilities were, what sets this apart is that they were the most service-oriented concierge people I've come across. Thanks to all for making the stay - which got off to such a horrid start - ultimately a good week!

Feeling pampered in your home away from home

My business host had booked me at the Torre Cristoforo Colombo for the 3 days of the conference that I was presenting at. Never having been to BA, I thought about booking my pleasure portion of my trip in Torre CC as well. Let me just say, after having endured three days at Toree CC, booking at the Hotel Moreno salvaged my trip and completely reversed my opinion of the accomodations in BA. From the moment I walked into the lobby at Hotel Moreno until I left, I enjoyed every minute of my stay. Every single person in the hotel went out of their way to help. Juan (with brown hair and glasses...there are two) was lovely and brilliant to chat with. We wanted to go see a Tango show and they laundered my dress clothes exactly as I had asked in less that 5 hours! They booked my trip to Uruguay. Anything we asked for, they were able to meet my expectations perfectly. The hotel is absolutely beautiful with huge rooms. For the first two days, we stayed in the Extra Large Room which was absolutely beautiful and much more spacious than most US hotel rooms, even in expensive hotels. For the last two days, we decided to upgrade to the J loft so that we could have the jacuzzi. While the jacuzzi was nice and the room was even larger, for just two people, I was perfectly pleased with the extra large room. The bathrooms were amazing, the beds comfortable, and the service was great.
The only complaint that I would have about this hotel is the breakfast. The breakfast was the same everyday and this got a bit old...but that being said, it was yummy...just the same.
Ok, one final birthday was about a month after my stay. The hotel even sent me a birthday email...yet another testament to the level of detail of service provided by the staff at this wonderful hotel. You won't be disappointed!

Argentinean hospitality at its best!

We wanted a decent priced but centrally located hotel and this is exactly it. The location is perfect - it is a walking distance from all major sites.

Rooms are large, luminous and most importantly very clean. The staff is amazingly nice and helpful. They really do their best to make you feel welcome.

Hidden Gem

Having stayed in BsAs on three previous occasions and having stayed at the Sofitel (terrific), Sheraton (very good) and 725 (awful), we booked this small boutique hotel with some trepidation. Like much else in the fabulous city, it holds hidden charms. The entrance is a little unprepossessing but on taking the lift to reception, you are in another world. The entire staff are more than friendly, knowledgeable and cannot do enough to assist (thanks Carolina!) The building is a converted publishing house and retains original tiles and stained glass windows in the common areas. The rooms are large, sleek and stylish – a slightly odd washbasin arrangement placed outside the bathroom area but nothing too distracting. As the hotel is not quite finished (a restaurant and tango theatre will open in 2008), breakfast is modest and served adjacent to the rooftop patio; this is set to change next year. The staff arranged flowers in the room and welcome drinks which was great. The location could not be better – you really feel as though you’re in the heart of everything.
Anyone wanting to experience “real” tango and not the dreadful touristy shows at the Tortoni and the like should try [--] – they will have you dancing after a few lessons and initiate you into the etiquette of proper milongas. Highly recommended.

best kept secret

We stayed at this hotel in Oct 07 for four nights. We are a young couple of Doctors and we were in Buenos aires attending a Congress; so we have very little day time to know the city. The staff is excellent and very helpful, they were great at helping us plan our short days in Buenos Aires.

Other reviewers are right, the rooms are HUGE. The terrace is stunning, and a great place to sit and relax and read.

Some good restaurants are very close (less than 200 meters), and the Plaza de Mayo is one block away. This is a very good hotel - you will not be disappointed.

´ve ever been !!!!

Well... I have travel widely over the world for work. I´ve been in quite a lot of five star hotels in U.S. , New Zeland, Hong Kong, China, Germany, Spain, Italy and a few more countries. This time I chose argentina for pleasure and I must say this hotel is among my top 3, maybe top 2. As everyone explained the rooms are huge and really incredible decorated. Check out it´s website. It´s located downtown so you really have many things to do around it. Staff there is quite young but very polite and professional. I could only say the stay there was one of the best things of my vacations. Thumbs up !

Love It!

Stayed at this Hotel for three nights a couple of weeks ago and it was great!! Staff was efficient, kind and spoke English very well. Room was clean and of a high standard (the size of the room was extraordinary). The terrace is beautiful and the area is OK. I would also highly recommend the Querandi tango show (and restaurant) just a few blocks down the road!

Great little place to chill out

from Boo19
Stayed at the hotel for 6 days as the final leg of a tour of Brazil and Argentina and it was perfect place to end the trip. The hotel is new, small, charmingly low-key and staffed with an amazing team of people who managed to be both super helpful and also unobtrusive.

While it appears to be aimed at the business traveller, the rooms, which are pretty generously sized, quiet and complete with LCD TV, wi-fi, reasonably priced mini-bar, sink/coffee area and fainting couch, have a cosy, personal feel, and its central location near San Telmo and Plaza de Mayo made it really convenient to get to the major tourist attractions. Also, buses and trams that go to Palermo, Recoleta and La Boca are within walking distance of the hotel.

As for the downsides – ironically, the major downside about this place is its location – be prepared for your taxi driver to miss the hotel completely because it kinda lacks a proper entrance and is only accessible from a busy little grotty side street, meaning you’ll be holding up traffic as you unload your luggage. The area isn’t the nicest place in San Telmo, and may be a little intimidating at night if you are a solo female. Ditto the view from the rooms–ours looked out onto urban decay. Also some of the design touches are not practical, like the cool-looking bathroom sink, which splashes everywhere because the bowl is too shallow, or the old school alarm clock that needs winding up every day or won’t keep time.

If the soon to be completed rooftop Jacuzzi, restaurant and theatre pan out, it promises to host excellent facilities. At the moment however, the place lacks all these, including the restaurant but that meant we got breakfast in bed every morning (!) and there are many cafes and eateries nearby. Plus the staff were happy to arrange for meals to be delivered from outside.

All in all, this is an excellent place to be based in if you want go out and about and do all the touristy things or if you just want to stay in, unwind and not feel guilty that you’re in a foreign city and not out sightseeing.

Moreno Hotel

This is an excellent hotel for the solo business traveler. I stayed there for 10 days at the end of August. The room size was great for one person, the bed comfortable.

There is both wireless and cable Internet connection in the room I had, and a comfortable desk to work. The room has individual controllable air conditioning. The hotel is modern and clean – I think they just opend. Breakfast was also good.

I would definitely stay here again.

Top Local Tips for Buenos Aires

Attraction Info-Via Cell Phone in BA If possible, rent a cell phone while you are there. Many attractions have a concrete tile on the sidewalk in front of them with a number that you can call to hear description, etc of the attraction. We were wishing we had done this once we saw these tiles-not sure if they're only in spanish though.

San Telmo It's an obvious tip - but Sunday is really special there. Even though there are hordes of tourists, it's a really pretty and fascinating market.

Check out La Puerto Rico cafe as an alternative to touristy Cafe Tortoni Just a five min walk from The Moreno Hotel at Bolivar 319, this cafe has been around since 1887 and provides a very pleasant atmosphere and more local feel than Cafe Tortoni.
