Top Local Tips for Buenos Aires

Be Careful while walking in Monserrat and San Telmo Keep your wallet inside a large bag with short handles that is in the front of your chest. Do not wear touristy type clothing such as a Tilly Hat or shorts...do not wear a fanny pack or backpack to indicate that you are a tourist. Plan where you are going prior to leaving your hotel....bring your camera out but do not have it dangling from your wrist, neck or hand.....watch out for gypsies appearing to be lost tourists and do not have them approach you at all...if you feel a wet stinky substance on your shoulder or back WATCH out for Helpful hands....they will be helping them to your credit cards, cash etc.....

Sketchy neighbourhood - BE AWARE in San Telmo and Monserrat Especially do not dress in any way that indicates that you are a tourist.- no Tilly Hat, shorts, backpacks, fanny packs ..keep all bags in front of you close to your body, and bring your camera out of a large short handled bag and put it right back in when not using it. Be aware of your personal safety; what appears to be a lost tourist couple could be gypsies waiting to pour putrid "bird" droppings on your shoulder. BE WARNED...it is a ruse for the fastest pair of hands to fleece your body whilst the other accomplice pats you dry.....be aware that pepper spray is also used in San Telmo and Monserrat to grab your bag or purse.
