Top Local Tips for Buenos Aires

Use Taxis, don't drive Taxis, like many other things in BsAs are remarkably cheap to those coming from Euro-land, the sterling or dollar areas. Taxis are extremely plentiful. Stand on a street corner during the day and you'll see about five within a minute. People say to use the Radio Taxis (check for the sign on the roof or in large letters on the door panels), although our experience occasionally with non-radio taxis was without problem. Fares are extremely inexpensive so you can utilise them as we northern hemisphere people would uses buses. Maybe don't bother with that hire car within the city, the traffic is heavy and there is a lot of lane switching (but surprisingly few accidents). Tipping is generally a few centavos, adding 1.5 to 2 pesos to a trip (worth about 50 cent or less) marks one out as a tourist but also brings appreciation from the driver. Just, as in any city, make sure the meter is on ("pago el taxi meter, por favor" is something you should learn, particularly when leaving Aeropuerto!).

Must see a tango performance Forget the dinner but see the Tango show that is in the big theatre. It is like a broadway show. It costs 50.00 per person but it was worth it. It comes with a glass of wine and free empanadas. The best....

Galeria Shopping Center Very well known, and attractive to look at, but no real bargains inside (mainly upscale shops). You can find some bargains in stores along the nearby pedestrian mall.
