This hotel is the worst hotel I have ever stayed at. The staff were incredibly rude (to the point of taking personal phone calls while trying to book me out) and unhelpful, The rooms are BADLY in need of a makeover - the carpets were stained, the room was unclean with cobwebs and dust everywhere, tiles were chipped in the bathroom, the beds were that soft that you sunk to the base. Between Central Reservations and the hotel reception, my reservation was lost and I was downgraded with no offer of an apology and was made to feel it was my fault. I will never stay there again.

This was the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. I have stayed in places that had worse facilities - though they costed a mere fraction of what I paid at the Grand Chancellor - but I have never had a worse experience.
I was not given the room I paid for, as the one I was given was not the king bed I had paid for but two single beds pushed together. I had travelled and worked 18.5 hours that day on 3 hours sleep, yet was still woken up by the edge of the bed digging into my back. That is how uncomfortable the bed was. I think anyone would agree that two single beds do not equal a double bed. The next morning, I asked to be given my original booking. I was flatly shot down with the comment: No, we cant move you. Were full. Mind you, this is before she even looked at the computer. I had to explain what I had paid for and threaten to leave the hotel to even have the disinterested receptionist try to find me another room. I left her with my mobile number (again, she was reluctant to take it) and left the hotel to get breakfast. When I received the call about 30 minutes later to say that she had found a room, she insisted I immediately return to the hotel to move my bags. I was downgraded without so much as an apology and given a smaller room with a faulty TV, which was later replaced with one that was also faulty. However, as I now had a double bed, I took this in my stride, and would have been perfectly fine with the dramas if any one of the staff I talked to had bothered to say 'sorry for the hassle' or be polite. I am not a rude customer, but I quickly lost my patience with the dismissive staff, who had 'You're too much work' written all over their faces. Even so, I kept my cool and tried to work things out and salvage as much of my time in Perth that I could.
But they couldn't even arrange a late checkout for me when I enquired the evening before I was due to leave, saying I had to speak to the duty manager the morning I was leaving! What kind of hotel can't arrange a checkout time for the next day? Your shift duties are not your customer's problem. You should be able to coordinate with other staff.
The next morning, I was told 'no', and only when I explained my previous treatment by the staff and downgrading of my room without compensation did I manage to cajole an 11:30am and then 1pm checkout out of the manager. I needed 2pm, and leaving at 1pm would mean I could not do the activity I planned to that morning. So I had to cancel it and went to the airport early. Thank you, Hotel Grand Chancellor, for giving me the opportunity to spend an extra hour of my life getting acquainted with the Perth airport domestic terminal.
I was so glad to finally leave that horrible, run-down, ugly, overpriced hotel, but I didn't get out of there without them falsely trying to add charges to my mini bar.
All in all, I would say that the hideous paintings and decrepit bathroom fixtures of this hotel are only matched by its incompetent and rude staff, to whom 'service' is obviously an unknown word.
