I had never stayed at the Palisade, I'd heard about the 5 star restaurant, award winning meals and vino's to die for. I heard about the unique position, the view, the rustic original qualities, but I never really believed them until I layed eyes on it. I got out of the taxi, the winds off the harbour blew my hair, and slammed the entrance door in my face.. 2 young local lads inside were most helpful, carried my bags in. I was staying for 3 days. I had a number of events to be at, I needed accessibility and price (I don't earn buckets of cash). Apparently I would be on the 3rd floor, 2 above the award winning restaurant, where the most glorious aromas and meals are created by 2 of Sydney's best alchemists to date. I walked into my room, having received my key, my bags were waiting for me (thanks boys). A cosey room, with a beautiful door out to the balcony. Eagerly I flung the door wide open.. gazing out onto a very historical snap-shot of Sydney and its beginnings. Being a country girl, I had never seen the Harbour Bridge so close, so detailed, the harbour splayed out. the boats travelling to and from. I sat on one of the many wicker chairs to take in the scene. It was pure magic. I could feel my excitement for Sydney stirring. I was in a special part of town, I realised that now, and it was like being at home. Friendly faces, only too happy to help, a comfy bed, clean rooms (thanks Mick) and the best food in town. A short stroll and I'm at the Quay. The first night I returned, having been to the first of many events, I was somewhat intoxicated. I managed to enter via the after hours door (which my room key fits) carrying a fireproof camera bag. The stairs in the palisade are original.. and I think the human species has doubled in size since then. I have no idea how I made it up the stairs. The first thing I see when I walk into my room is the bridge, lit up in blue light. It was spectacular, stunning.. I quickly stripped and flopped into bed, popping my head up for another peak at the bridge. Had my eyes decieved me.... the bridge was now in total darkness.. was I really that intoxicated I was now seeing things? I didn't ponder these oddities for too long, sleep overcame my tired self. I awoke (slightly dulled) but having slept incredibly well. A note was delivered under my door, already I've got people looking for me.. emailing the Palisade. For the best coffee, food, authentic atmosphere, independence, accessibility and price - try the Palisade. You wont be disappointed. and you will be back for another visit.
