Historical Traveller Reviews of The Iron Horse Hotel

WOW is the only way to describe the Iron Horse Hotel. The rooms, the service, the decor, the staff are first rate. It is wonderous what has been done with this old warehouse. In my opinion it is the best place in Milwaukee. An added bonus is the close Harley-Davidson museum.

Wonderful stylish hotel

from CFISH57
Terrific rooms, hip atmosphere yet extremely comfortable--great beds and linens, robes, rainshower bath, exposed brick and sexy art. We walked in on a day trip from Chicago and after seeing the rooms, decided to stay and had a great time. Helpful, friendly staff and concierge, good breakfast alternatives, comfortable library with fireplace, lively bar, good food (though I would have preferred not to see foie gras options). The kind of hotel you expect to find in a bigger city than Milwaukee. Introductory rates are a steal.

Incredible service!

My wife and I were shopping on a Saturday afternoon in Milwaukee, and decided to just stay rather than drive home. With no notice or reservation, we called the Iron Horse (they had been in the news as the newest hotel in Milwaukee), and were delighted to find they had a couple of openings.

The hotel is contemporary, and is more or less part of the Harley-Davidson complex in the Menomonee Valley. You can feel some of the biker culture (there is a motorcycle in the lobby) when you walk in, but it is really very comfortable. The library (where breakfast is served) has a nice fireplace and is cozy, and the bar area is very comfortable too.

The service at the Iron Horse is nothing short of outstanding. With no notice and no luggage, we were treated like royalty, got a great room at a great rate, and the concierge even tracked down some toiletries for us. Excellent food and wine was delivered to our room in a very timely and friendly fashion. Valet service for our car was also timely and professional.

The room itself was amazing! Modern Kohler fixtures including elevated sink bowls and overhead shower made the all-black bathroom very contemporary, and we watched the news on a flat panel TV from the what has to be the most comfortable hotel bed ever. Bathrobes are also provided, there is ample table and counter space, and we did not hear the bar party at all (we were on the fifth floor).

Checkout was smooth, quick, and professional. All in all, I would highly, highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Milwaukee.

The Iron Horse is fabulous

This hotel was awesome. It has only been open a couple of months and it is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. The decor is fabulous, not only in the rooms, but also in the lobby, bar and breakfast library. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the staff. They were incredibly friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I definately recommend this hotel above and beyond all others in Milwaukee.

Great City Hotel

from 1987312
Great new hotel in the Historic Third Ward area.

Style of the hotel is great. Exposed timber and brick, modern finishes, historic relics... all tastefully done. (Not the trying too hard animal prints and whatnot of some boutique hotels)

Rooms are sizeable and comfortable. Beds are great. Nice sized TV with inputs for your computer/ipod/etc. Good bathroom with relaxing rainshower.

Lobby and rooms are scented with some kind of leather scent or something which I could have lived without. Trains run at low speed right behind the hotel and rumble the building a bit, but we slept soundly with no problems.

Location is nice - easy walk to great restaurants/bars/shops in Third Ward. Parking is a bit steep at $25 a night in a largely undeveloped neighborhood. Not sure if there is a lot to use if you don't want to valet.

Everything and more...

Our stay at the Iron Horse hotel was nothing less than spectacular. The valet was quick to greet us at our car and announce our arrival to the staff inside. All staff greeted us by name and were gracious and inviting. The hotel itself is hip and modern with a very comfy feel. Since I am originally from the milwaukee area, I often stay in local Milwaukee hotels for visits home. I can definitely say that the Iron Horse will be the only hotel we choose for future visits. The rooms had every ammenity you would need and if there was something not available, I have confidence the staff would've found it for you. They remembered our names throughout our stay and made every effort to make you feel welcome and at home. I can't wait to return when the restaurant and Boiler room are open.
One last point, we were in town for a wedding and upon our return to the hotel that evening, we found a box of crackjacks on the bed for turn down service. It was a such a great unexpected surprise. Something completely different than most hotels.

Great Find in Milwaukee!

When we arrived to check in, we were greated by extremely friendly staff, a great DJ and a packed bar! The rooms were cavernous with great touches including exposed brick, a raining shower and very comfy bed! The hotel itself is in a great location, minutes from downtown.

Went to see the Cirque du Soleil show and decided to book this hotel because it was new. Got there on a rainy night and the valets made sure we didn't get soaked. There is no public parking garage only parking spots for the motorcycle rider that the hotel boasts its theme around. From my understanding the owner is trying to purchase the lot next door to make an underground parking garage for the hotel. The lobby is very inviting and very spacious. The front desk is in an unusual spot, as its sandwiched between the elevators and the bar entrance. The room was absolutely incredible, and the amenities are plentiful. Very comfortable king size bed, 40" (I think) flat screen tv, all the hook ups in case you want to connect your pc to the tv, which we used to watch a movie or two. Most of the channels are in HD and offer a good choice of channels. Wasn't a big fan of the free WiFi in the room, although they do have a connection in case you bring a patch cord to connect to the internet that way. Wireless signal was horrible, might be due to some "bugs" in the service, not sure. Was able to get faster directions from my blackberry than the wireless connection. Bathroom was extremly nice although they could have spent more on the cheap toilet seat cover and for some reason there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Mini bar was fully stocked, from soft drinks to bottled water to wine. Bar area downstairs was neat. Every single chair was different than the rest. Our bartender (Amanda?) was very nice and very helpful with places to see and the Safe Room! The server who's name I didn't get, gave us his sure fire recipe for Crab Cakes. Haven't tried to make them yet, but from the list of ingredients, it's going to be delicious. Note to him...GO TO CULINARY SCHOOL!! LOL!! Hadn't eaten all day and they weren't serving bar food til the next day, but the staff took care of us by bringing out kettle chips and little appetizers that will be on the menu.

They also allow pets, but only on the second floor and you must tell them before hand you are traveling with pets.

All in all it was a great stay at this month old hotel. We will definitely be back to try the restaurant. From the sound of the other reviewer, the staff here is willing to go the extra mile to keep their customers happy. Hope this doesn't change!!!

Absolutely loved our stay!!!!

from horselvr
The hotel is modern, well decorated and gives you a feeling of comfort all in one package. Upon arrival the valet asked our names and he never forgot it during our stay. The other hotel staff was extremely genuine and nice, wanting to make you satisfied with every request you might have. We stayed at the Iron Horse for my birthday and our anniversary and they delivered a bottle of champagne to celebrate without us even asking. I highly recommend this hotel and will definately stay again.

The Iron Horse got our motors running!

from BilliePie
We recently stayed at the Iron Horse Hotel. It is about a 2 minute drive over the 6th Street Bridge to downtown Milwaukee and the Harley-Davidson Museum. The hotel is in an "up-and-coming" area with lots of Mexican restaurants, as well as other restaurants, clubs, bars, etc. This used to be a very industrial area; parts of it still are, but it is not a bad area.
The Iron Horse is designed to be motorcycle friendly, with plenty of bike parking and thoughtful details like special hooks for leathers and helmets in the rooms. That being said, we do not own bikes and arrived via car. The rooms are spacious and very "cool". Lots of contemporary art, sculpture and lighting throughout the hotel. The king size beds feature large, leather headboards. Exposed brick, wood beams and exposed duct work offer a funky feel. Modern amenities like the glass and chrome mini-bar, European coffee makers and slate and glass bathrooms suggest high tech meets loft studio living in an urban environment.
The lobby is full of comfy, overstuffed sofas and chairs. Wood beams and floors are reclaimed from the former warehouse the building used to be. An antique motorcycle graces the lobby in a most unique setting. The hotel also offers a large library stocked full of books and magazines, more comfy furniture, a cozy fireplace and large windows throughout the room.
The enormous bar has a hip vibe, complete with European lightbulbs dangling over tables, lots of seating and a beautiful billiard table.
The restaurant had not yet opened when we visited during the hotel's "soft opening", but the hotel more than compensated by offering complimentary continental breakfast in the library daily, as well as snacks such as sliders and sandwiches in the bar in the evenings.
Also, I had a bad cold which left me in bed our last day there. I called the concierge to see if there was any way the hotel could find me some soup, in light of the fact that the kitchen was technically not yet open. He called me back to let me know that the kitchen "had me covered." 20 minutes later, room service delivered a bowl of steaming hot soup, chock-full of diced carrots, onion, celery and chicken with bow-tie noodles mixed in. This was not soup from a can. The veggies were all firm. They included two warm, crusty rolls, a generous serving of butter, a large carafe of ice water with a pint glass, and a large glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice. I was grateful and surprised with the quality, as the kitchen was not yet fully open.
We will definitely stay at the Iron Horse Hotel again. The staff was warm and friendly, from the valet parking (there is little parking near the hotel, so I recommend the service), to the bartenders to the front desk staff.

Top Local Tips for Milwaukee

Surprisingly good Mexican restaurants There is an entire area known as The Latin Quarter which is home to dozens of wonderful Mexican restaurants, as well as trendy bars, clubs and other bistros.

Eastside - Comet I've lived in various areas of Milwaukee over the years and I can honestly say that whenever I return with guests I instantly go to the eastside. I especially love The Comet. it is a hip little restaurant/ bar and has great comfort food and terrific options for vegetarians. I personally love meat, but for those that avoid, i know you'd find something to your liking. It is also across the street from a great little grocery store with the best gummy worms in the world. Another great option is nearby called Zaffiro's pizza. It is a small little hole in the wall place with excellect thing crust pizza. I could go on and on about the area, but leave it at.... check out the eastside of Milwaukee for some great dining options and fabulous bar choices.

Art museum well worth a visit--world class
