WOW!!
from olewisconsinWonderful stylish hotel
from CFISH57Incredible service!
from melbyedThe hotel is contemporary, and is more or less part of the Harley-Davidson complex in the Menomonee Valley. You can feel some of the biker culture (there is a motorcycle in the lobby) when you walk in, but it is really very comfortable. The library (where breakfast is served) has a nice fireplace and is cozy, and the bar area is very comfortable too.
The service at the Iron Horse is nothing short of outstanding. With no notice and no luggage, we were treated like royalty, got a great room at a great rate, and the concierge even tracked down some toiletries for us. Excellent food and wine was delivered to our room in a very timely and friendly fashion. Valet service for our car was also timely and professional.
The room itself was amazing! Modern Kohler fixtures including elevated sink bowls and overhead shower made the all-black bathroom very contemporary, and we watched the news on a flat panel TV from the what has to be the most comfortable hotel bed ever. Bathrobes are also provided, there is ample table and counter space, and we did not hear the bar party at all (we were on the fifth floor).
Checkout was smooth, quick, and professional. All in all, I would highly, highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Milwaukee.
The Iron Horse is fabulous
from sunymanGreat City Hotel
from 1987312Style of the hotel is great. Exposed timber and brick, modern finishes, historic relics... all tastefully done. (Not the trying too hard animal prints and whatnot of some boutique hotels)
Rooms are sizeable and comfortable. Beds are great. Nice sized TV with inputs for your computer/ipod/etc. Good bathroom with relaxing rainshower.
Lobby and rooms are scented with some kind of leather scent or something which I could have lived without. Trains run at low speed right behind the hotel and rumble the building a bit, but we slept soundly with no problems.
Location is nice - easy walk to great restaurants/bars/shops in Third Ward. Parking is a bit steep at $25 a night in a largely undeveloped neighborhood. Not sure if there is a lot to use if you don't want to valet.
Everything and more...
from mayville53050One last point, we were in town for a wedding and upon our return to the hotel that evening, we found a box of crackjacks on the bed for turn down service. It was a such a great unexpected surprise. Something completely different than most hotels.
Great Find in Milwaukee!
from mrspdFantastic
from Sports8177They also allow pets, but only on the second floor and you must tell them before hand you are traveling with pets.
All in all it was a great stay at this month old hotel. We will definitely be back to try the restaurant. From the sound of the other reviewer, the staff here is willing to go the extra mile to keep their customers happy. Hope this doesn't change!!!
Absolutely loved our stay!!!!
from horselvrThe Iron Horse got our motors running!
from BilliePieThe Iron Horse is designed to be motorcycle friendly, with plenty of bike parking and thoughtful details like special hooks for leathers and helmets in the rooms. That being said, we do not own bikes and arrived via car. The rooms are spacious and very "cool". Lots of contemporary art, sculpture and lighting throughout the hotel. The king size beds feature large, leather headboards. Exposed brick, wood beams and exposed duct work offer a funky feel. Modern amenities like the glass and chrome mini-bar, European coffee makers and slate and glass bathrooms suggest high tech meets loft studio living in an urban environment.
The lobby is full of comfy, overstuffed sofas and chairs. Wood beams and floors are reclaimed from the former warehouse the building used to be. An antique motorcycle graces the lobby in a most unique setting. The hotel also offers a large library stocked full of books and magazines, more comfy furniture, a cozy fireplace and large windows throughout the room.
The enormous bar has a hip vibe, complete with European lightbulbs dangling over tables, lots of seating and a beautiful billiard table.
The restaurant had not yet opened when we visited during the hotel's "soft opening", but the hotel more than compensated by offering complimentary continental breakfast in the library daily, as well as snacks such as sliders and sandwiches in the bar in the evenings.
Also, I had a bad cold which left me in bed our last day there. I called the concierge to see if there was any way the hotel could find me some soup, in light of the fact that the kitchen was technically not yet open. He called me back to let me know that the kitchen "had me covered." 20 minutes later, room service delivered a bowl of steaming hot soup, chock-full of diced carrots, onion, celery and chicken with bow-tie noodles mixed in. This was not soup from a can. The veggies were all firm. They included two warm, crusty rolls, a generous serving of butter, a large carafe of ice water with a pint glass, and a large glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice. I was grateful and surprised with the quality, as the kitchen was not yet fully open.
We will definitely stay at the Iron Horse Hotel again. The staff was warm and friendly, from the valet parking (there is little parking near the hotel, so I recommend the service), to the bartenders to the front desk staff.
Top Local Tips for Milwaukee
Surprisingly good Mexican restaurants There is an entire area known as The Latin Quarter which is home to dozens of wonderful Mexican restaurants, as well as trendy bars, clubs and other bistros.
Eastside - Comet I've lived in various areas of Milwaukee over the years and I can honestly say that whenever I return with guests I instantly go to the eastside. I especially love The Comet. it is a hip little restaurant/ bar and has great comfort food and terrific options for vegetarians. I personally love meat, but for those that avoid, i know you'd find something to your liking. It is also across the street from a great little grocery store with the best gummy worms in the world. Another great option is nearby called Zaffiro's pizza. It is a small little hole in the wall place with excellect thing crust pizza. I could go on and on about the area, but leave it at.... check out the eastside of Milwaukee for some great dining options and fabulous bar choices.
Art museum well worth a visit--world class
