Just lovely, good service

New, clean hotel with modern furnishings, wonderfully luxurious bed with beaucoup de pillows. The desk has an Aeron chair; the armchair and ottoman in the room supremely comfortable. In-room WiFi was less expensive than at other hotels (though when will hotels just begin to throw this in for "free"????)

Bathroom in my king room was very small, but since I live in a tiny NYC apartment, I'm used to that. Everything was attractive and nice.

I was most impressed with the friendly responsive service -- at the reception desk, in the restaurant at breakfast -- and afterwards when I asked the man at the lobby coffee bar if there was a supermarket nearby -- I wanted to buy some low-carb food to take to the airport for what promised to be a long day of traveling. He said there was nothing nearby, but when I explained my dilemma, he immediately called down to the kitchen, where they swiftly put up a beautifully packaged go-bag with roast beef and cheddar and a bottle of water -- and charged me less than $5 for it. The lovely breakfast in the restaurant was similarly free of the kind of price-gouging on food you expect in a hotel -- the 2-eggs-bacon-toast-potatoes-coffee breakfast came in at under $10. (Compare to the Hilton in Chicago where they were charging over $20 for the same.)

I'm very impressed and pleased with my stay here -- I only wish I was staying more than 1 night!

Most comfortable hotel bed ever!

This place was great all around. Great price, great rooms, and really great beds. They were the most comfortable I have ever slept on at a hotel. The hotel is pretty classy but unpretentious. I loved that the rooms had a separate TV room, almost like a little living room. The location is great, and the pre-paid in and out parking saved us a lot of hassle downtown.

Fab but also a few problems

Pros: I got the room for a good price. The hotel's interior looks fabulous if you like this very modern style, the huge bed was the most comfy I had in years! etc.

However there were also a few problems. I got an "executive room" with an awkward layout featuring a seperate and fairly dark "TV area"; a pretty small bathroom and a smallish bedroom.

The fairly loud aircon in the TV area cannot be turned off but fortunately the noise is ok when in the bedroom. But the bedroom (and apparently the whole hotel) has a different low frequency noise that I found very annoying!

Room service was definitely below standard on occasions. During the about-a-week stay my bed was'nt made a couple of times, used mugs not replaced, shampoo not refilled, etc.

The barman was an interesting experience. Some of the lights were already turned off around 11ish on a weekday but there were still people drinking at the bar so I thought the bar would be closing very soon. When I approached the bar the barman pretty much ignored me. Closed? No, a few minutes later he was still able to sell bottled beer to his mates.

Great Hotel Great City

I stayed at the Intercontinental for 5 nights in August while on business; I was there for the Irish Fest...which by the way, is awesome!!!
I thought the whole hotel was amazing: the rooms were large and well-appointed and the beds were excellent--so many pillows too!
The staff at the desk, restaurant, bar, and even the gift shop, were always friendly and accommodating in meeting any needs I had.

If ever I were in Milwaukee again, I would definitely stay at the Intercontinental.

Poor service, fire alarms in the middle of the night, and poor management

Through our research, we were attracted to the Intercontinental because of the high tripadvisor reviews, strong brand name and recent renovations which appear to have taken place. Our actual experience was terrible. To begin with, we were given a loud room that was situated near the bank of elevators. After we settled into the room, we were disturbed by someone in the adjacent room trying to open the door into our room, again and again. We never wanted a room with an inside door connecting to another room. External noise and disruption seemed to be the common theme for our experience. We heard quite a bit of noise every time other guests walked by our room. The bathrooms looked nice in the photos, but the showers were claustrophobic and dingy. It felt like bathing in a little cave. Next, in the middle of the night we were awakened by very loud sirens chiming out 'evacuate...evacuate'. What a nightmare! It was quite a disruption to say the least. We have visited several countries and cities across America this year, and the experience at the Intercontinental Milwaukee was the by far the most disappointing. If you choose to stay here, I would express your concerns about noise upon checking in. Perhaps they can give you a non-adjoining room in a more quite location, and maybe, just maybe, you'll get lucky and won't have to suffer through a fire drill false alarm exercise in your underwear at 2am on a Sunday morning. Excellent 1 year anniverasry in our same Wedding night Suite!

We stayed here on Sept 15, 2006 for our wedding night and rented out 2 floors of the hotel for our guests. The hotel had just started rennovations, but it was still an excellent hotel (when it was the Wyndham)
We decided to rent to same suite for our anniversary night. We booked a corner suite, it was 299 for the night, WORTH EVERY PENNY...go for it! I included some photos. LOVED the shower...check in was great, however it sounded like the manager was dealing with someone elses complaint...not ours! We brought up the top tier of our cake to eat...for tradition's sake...and they immediately brought up plates, napkins, and flatware within 5 minutes of our arrival. There was a bottle of champaign chilled and waiting for us...and an 80 dollar credit to kilowat, which we unfortunately didnt use because we had reservations elsewhere and were too hung over to have it for breakfast. There were tons of snacks and drinks (for purchase of course) in the minibar...we didnt spend much, minus the $4 voss water to quench my hungover thirst. they even had an air purifier that had a not on it that if we wanted to take it with us it was 100$...I actually considered it.
Overall---it was the perfect night...I may actually plan on doing that every year if we are in Milwaukee for our anniversary. I cant stress how comfortable the bed was and how AWESOME the rainfall shower is. This hotel makes for an EXCELLENT romantic getaway.

What a room!

I stayed overnight at this hotel on a business trip and found it to be absolutely stunning. The hotel lobby and restaurant are gorgeous and the room I had was amazing. It was big enough for a family, with a huge desk that was perfect for my needs, and a big beautiful flat screen TV. The bed was extremely comfortable and the service was great. The bathroom was also super-modern with lots of extra towels. All this for a REALLY reasonable price.

Nicely renovated hotel, excellent location downtown

The hotel has been recently renovated. The beds are comfortable, linens are nice and soft. The bathroom isn't super fancy ( I thought with a renovation it would be a little nicer), but was fine. The food was actually really good in the restaurant for breakfast, and the bar downstairs for lunch. The flat screen TV was a nice touch. The rooms whoever had a bit of a musty damp smell.

First Class accommodations

Great Downtown location with a pleasant attentive staff. I stayed the InterContinental Milwaukee Aug. 17-20 and everything about the hotel was first class. The rooms were spacious and sharply decorated. Within walking distance of many theaters, restaurants and bars. If my travels bring me back to Milwaukee, the InterContinental is where I'll stay again!

Top Local Tips for Milwaukee

Construction Be advised that Interstate 43 is under construction and major delays do occur.

Taxi ring If you don't have transportation and don't know your way around, grab a cab in front of the hotel. If you like your driver, get their card. We were fortunate to get a great cab driver (most in this area seemed to have been taxi drivers for a number of years and really know the area). Once we were stuck waiting for a shuttle for a special event and it was such a long wait, we called Charlie and he was there within 5 minutes. He made our trip easy! And from past experience, he really knew his way around because rides we've taken before by cab were less money with him because he knew the area so well.

MIller Park Take the #90 bus to the Park, much quicker and easier than driving.
