Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Milwaukee City Center Hotel

from QDog
We stayed at the hotel for Easter weekend. The idea was to take the kids to the water park at the hotel. Upon arrival, I thought the hotel was nice - it was clean and had an old-world charm. The rooms were fine as well, nothing to write home about.

The service was great. At the brunch we were waited on very well by the staff. Even at the Miller Time Pub, the service was fantastic.

The water park was crazy. It was very crowded and loud. My boys, ages 7 & 9 mostly played at the water basketball court - for hours. My 3 year old girl wanted to spend her time in the game room. I wasn't thrilled with the water park, but my boys loved it. However, they must pour chlorine into their pools. We all were extremely dry after our trip. My boys actually had a minor rash for 2 days as well.

Overall, it was nice for a day - day and a half stay. Any longer would get old and tiresome.

Maybe the Holiday Inn next time...

The hotel lobby is pretty, but the rest of the hotel is just average. I see no advantage in staying at the Hilton instead of the Holiday Inn a block away. At least there we could have used the pool for free and had a little breakfast. Everything at the Hilton is extra, including the new waterpark. Prices were high although service and accomodations were inferior. I doubt I would stay at this particular Hilton again.

Historic Hotel with Urban Waterpark

This is a beautifully restored and kept up property. The banquet halls are beautiful and worth a special look; even if you have to ask a staff member to unlock the door for you. Our room was very clean. There were noisy children running in the halls until after 10 at night. The waterpark is quite small and best for the under 10 crowd, who would have a great time. Very friendly staff, although the service at the snack bar in the waterpark is extremely slow. You can buy a fountain soda at the snack bar in the waterpark for $2 and get free refills the whole day, which is a pretty good deal! The parking structure is an absolute nightmare to leave as they only have 1 booth at the exit. One time we waited 20 minutes and another time nearly 45 minutes in our car in line just to leave the stucture ($18 a night plus tax!). This structure was just recently built and I can't believe they can't "fix" this problem. All in all a neat place to stay if you have small children and get a good rate. I prefer the Residence Inn downtown Milwaukee: $10 parking and great atmosphere in a former Gimbels department store but no pool.

Nice weekend

from DaDox
We had a great time. Checked in on Jan. 29 at around 12:30 and I asked for a larger room and she said I was already booked in a corner King room, and did I want something else. Of course I said no.

We had lunch in the Miller Pub with my son (almost 2) then headed for the waterpark. It was great. Perfect for kids under 8 years old. It was crowded but we only had to wait for a few people on each slide.

Dinner at the Cafe was fine and they had a guy making balloon animals for the kids. All in all just a fine weekend. Only thing I would say is that our bed was a bit hard.

Avoid at all costs

I took my wife and 3 year old daughter to this hotel for a special weekend deal including access to the waterpark. The waterpark is very average; you'll find much better parks in Wisconsin Dells. However the real problems were the incredibly noisy rooms. Screaming kids in the hall and next door the first night until midnight. The manager tooks about 2 hours to convince the people in the next room to move somewhere else so we could sleep. The second night, a drunken party started up in the room on the other side, and security was unable to do anything about it. We went without sleep until 3 am in the morning, when someone in the next room pounded on the door between the rooms and threatened us because we had called security. At that point, we packed up and left (at 3:30 in the morning). I have never, ever, done that before. When I checked out I told them I would not pay for the second night, and the front desk clerk assured me I would not be charged. Sure enough, the charge turned up on my credit card statement, and I had to write my credit card company to dispute it. Avoid this hotel at all costs. The nice front lobby is all this hotel has going for it, and then you have to pay extra for parking. If you must stay in Milwaukee, try the Pfister.

Depends on the room you get.

Was first given a room with one queen bed which was quite small and poorly laid out. Went back to front desk to ask if they have something bigger and they gave me a room with 2 double beds which was much larger. Bathrooms are small but serviceable. Decor is old-fashioned but OK. Beds not very comfortable, with lumpy old synthetic pillows. Whole place is like a smaller version of the Palmer House Hilton in Chicago (same bedspreads even). But while the Palmer House has a truly beautiful lobby and public areas, these are just nice. Have also stayed at the Milwaukee Hyatt nearby, but that was so cold and sterile that I prefer this place. Apparently the Pfister and Metro hotels are the only really nice hotels in town. If you stay at this Hilton your experience will greatly be affected by the size of the room you get, but it's not a bad place.

Loved the Hilton!!

We stayed over labor day weekend, found our very cheap rate over hotwire. I was a little apprehensive after reading these reviews, but went for it anyway. This place was AMAZING. The lobby was beautiful, the folks at the front desk were friendly and quick. So friendly in fact that after we made an offhand remark that it was our anniversary, we found a chilled bottle of champagne in our room with a handwritten card once we returned from lunch. The room was a corner room, which was huge, the bed comfy, the bathroom spotless. All of this personal service took place in spite of at least 7 large weddings going on over the course of the weekend, and it being a holiday! Everything about it was centrally located. We took a 5.00 cab ride to the casino, and a bus picks you right up from the corner to the ball park. We will be returning to the Hilton City Center next summer for sure. We thought the parking at 18 dollars a night was a little steep, but it was in a garage and safe, so we will deal with that next time. You don't even need your car anyway.

Loved the Hilton!

Stayed at the Milwaukee Hilton the last week of August 2004 for a business conference. A very nice restored hotel. The rooms were in excellent condition and very comfortable. We ate at all three restaurants in the hotel (Chophouse, the Cafe, Millers Pub) and the food was great. The staff at the hotel was very nice. I will stay here again if ever in Milwaukee. A++

Ozzie and Harriet Beds

We checked in on a Wednesday night and were told all the queen king rooms were full which I find hard to believe as the parking garage was empty I think the priceline rate had more to do with it. Anyway the room was small with two double beds that were not comfortable my fiance and I were sleeping apart. The hotel is old and crummy. The toilets were very loud and all in all just a unpleasant say. To top it off parking costs was 19.00 do not stay here if at all possible.

I was sent to an ITEC convention that was held in Milwaukee. Was really surprised with the city, there is alot to do there.

Was booked into the Hilton as it is right across the street from the convention center. Upon entering into the hotel, the lobby was incredible. Done up in a 1920's deco style. The staff behind the desk and in the business center and bell staff were all incredible and answered all my questions. The problem I had was with the room.

Upon going to my room, the style of the lobby didn't go to the rooms above. I had a huge room but it was decorated in 1970's flavor. I now know where all my furniture that my parent's threw out wound up.

The TV in my room kept making a high pitch squelling sound and if kept on for more than three hours would have a burning smell coming from it. I called the front desk and told them about it, they said they would send up someone....never happened.

The heating system would either make me freeze or I would roast and there was no way of shutting it off. Was very noisy and of course was located right next to my bed.

The bathroom was the best. Even if I was a pro with a degree in Yoga I still would have killed myself. The floor was so slippery upon entering into the bathroom, I almost kissed the sink with my face. The shower had no pressure and all the dry towels were kept in the shower???? Being 6'3 and having the nozzle set up so high I had to take the towels out of the shower every time I used it. The toilet looked like they got it from a YMCA and the exposed pipes were a nice touch.

Needless to say, because the room wasn't that great, I spent most of my time in the Miller High Life Pub in the lobby of the hotel. Good beer on tap and cheap too.

Would I stay here again? If they renovated the rooms yes.
