Fantastic Golf, Beautiful Place

from GH_Ed
We had a wonderful 5 days at the Glades Springs Resort near Daniels, WV.

The rooms were very nice. The staff was thoughtful and pleasant.

The golf was BEYOND my expectations. We played both the Cobb Course (very interesting, pretty, and tough enough), and also had the opportunity to play the Stonehaven Course.

Stonehaven was among the most beautiful courses I have ever played. It was worth the trip just to see this great place.

We were treated very well, and the staff went out of their way to make our vacation a memorable event.

Thanks to everyone at Glades Springs Resort.

Anything but a resort

from idok26155
I should have known when I had to interupt four idle desk attendents to check in that I was in for a bad time. Instead of being greeted with "welcome to ...", the first words out of her mouth were "gimme your credit card". The ice machines in the new lodge did not work. The staff in the buffet room (don't mistake it for a restaurant) was visibly irritated when I asked if there was an alternative to the $18 breakfast. All I wanted was cereal or anything light and it just "was not possible". I did order coffee, but the server never returned. Two mornings in a row they failed to provide my requested wake up call. The room alarm clock did not work. At the end of my stay I politely asked to speak with a manager about a host of problems. I was informed "managers are not available on weekends". This is supposed to be a resort???? Folks save yourself a lot of aggravation and money, there are many better places to visit in beautiful West Virginia.

This is a resort???????????? Not Exactly

from VA-Photog
We went to this "resort" expecting to have a good time. Well, we didn't.

The "Suite" that they put us in was anything but. The carpet and furniturere was worn. There was one ice machine and drink machine to provide for 8 buildings (each building has 8 suites that sleep up to 4 people each). That's one ice machine for up to 256 guests!!! You do the math, we were there for 4 days and had to drive to the main building each day and then walk down a long hall just to get a bucket of ice. Also, the drink machine was out of order the whole time we were there.

When we complained to the staff at the desk they did not seem too concerned.

The pool was is need of repair. The bottom had many hills and bumps in it. Plus, there were spots where the paint was coming off of the bottom of the pool.

When we went for our little "sales pitch" they spoke of the security of the place. Well, we drove in each night with nothing more than a wave from the security staff.

This place is trying to show itself as a "RESORT", however most resorts that I visit do not need painting an d have cigarette butts all over the grounds. There is saying that you only have once chance at a first impression. This place really failed.

If there was a way to give it a score less than terrible, I would.

t stay with the Presidents

from Cynluvs2travel
I booked this for a nice July 4th weekend and it was an okay place but don't get a room in the Presidential Suites, I don't think the former Presidents would approve. I just returned home and was very disappointed that this could be called a resort. The room (in the Madison building) was clean but no amenities to brag about, not even ice. They had 2 ice machines but neither seem to work and when reported to the staff they didn't seem to care or bother to offer any help. The furniture was old and worn, not something that I expected in reading the reviews from the internet and about Glade Springs.

I am not into golf at all so I went swimming and the pool was very old with holes in the bottom of the pool and it had not been painted in recent years. The attendants at the pool were very nice and friendly.

The maid didn't even to bother to carry out the trash one day and the lighting really lets you know that you are in not close to a city. Very poor lighting at night, I didn't feel safe when I was outside at night.

It was like I said an okay stay but don't think I will be returning to this resort unless I like Motel 6 accommodations.

I should have realized when I was checking in what I had to look forward to...there were 2 other couples complaining about their accommodations too. When I arrived around 4 pm, you would expect a restaurant to be open but they weren't. They had all closed and if you wanted to get something to eat at the resort, you were expected to pay $50 per person for a cookout on the grounds. We ate off of the estate in Beckley.

Good luck if you are staying here and they won't leave the light on for you either.

Great, great place

from scagnetti
I booked our two families at Glade Springs based on the WV tourism book and their online site, as they were convienient to our White water rafting (which is fabulous). What a wonderful surprise! Large, 2 bedroom cabin with family room foldout for the kids and large kitchen and back porch to enjoy the evening. Reasonable priced. The pool and snack shack next door were perfect for the two 13 year olds (and our breakfast), golf course and tennis courts across the street. Great resturant and nice bar next to the golf course. And a wonderful course (we played the Cobb course). We went one month ago and I've been trying to get people to go there since. If I were asked where to go for a long weekend or a week, go to Glade Springs for some white water rafting and a fabulous place to relax.

Party Animals go to Vegas!!

from JoAnn113
All you young, crazy party animals should go to Vegas! Glade Springs is too green and sedate for you!

For folks like myself, who enjoy the quiet, beautiful bounty of nature and a good round or two of golf--this is the place!! No hustle-bustle--turn off the cell phones and just relax with a glass of wine.

This is a great place for families, and older adults!
Singles will be boared out of their minds!!!

Yes, there are Wild River Rapids, mountain biking & racing, and other fun things to do, but the night life is .... NOT!

SO all of you party-dudes & dudettes-- go somewhere else!!! Leave the peace and quiet for me!!!

A beautiful and relaxing visit!

This past weekend at Glade Springs was a wonderful visit! The accomodations were first class, the food was excellent and the staff was very helpful and willing to answer any questions. Despite some construction (which did not hinder the visit at all!), it was a great weekend to catch the fall colors.

Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Highly disappointed

from tammy_thompson
I was looking forward to visiting this "upscale" resort; however, I was very disappointed. The staff was inefficient and rude. Everyone there acted as if they had know idea as to how to do their job. This place is way overpriced. I have been to many resorts and this one, by far, is the worst one I have seen. Inside the resort, the food is terrible. In the town, the nicest place to eat is Long John Silvers?? If you need additional information, please e-mail me.
Please trust me, you will not like this place.

family of four non golfers had a ball

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family stayed in a Manor House which is four rooms connected by a large common area. I would imagine its normally used for corporations who want to conduct meetings, but in our case the other three rooms DID NOT have access to the living room and full kitchen. We did, so for us, breakfasts were made in the room, by us, daily. The room was EXCELLENT as were the fully updated bathrooms.

Each night, a large bonfire was made for guests and residents to mingle which my kids LOVED. Also, we enjoyed the spa, horseback riding and the resort hooked us up on a white water rafting trip that was awesome!

The staff was extremely friendly and courteous.

We felt Glade Springs was an awesome vacation in a beautiful surrounding.

Not what i is cracked up to be

from A TripAdvisor Member
The "resort" boasts a four diamond restaurant that closed months ago. The family fare with which they have replaced "Roberts" was ok but nothing special.

$186.00 per night with AAA discount was a ridiculous sum of money to have been charged for what they call a "resort" NO room service. NO Bell Service, Insufficient Parking and a less than knowledgeable front desk: the girl at the desk held Applebees as her top choice for a local restaurant.
Management Response from A TripAdvisor Member
Glade Springs has undergone numerous changes in the past year. Ownership of the resort has recently changed hands, and the look, feel, and atmosphere of the resort has continued to evolve since the spring of 2004. We are in process of constructing a new adition to the hotel and conference center, a 3rd golf course will be underway this fall, and our new restaurant Glade's Grille has also continued to make changes according to user feedback. There are many things yet to accomplish and we appreciate the patience of our guests while many new projects are underway. We can guarantee with each return visit you will be more impressed. Our resort boasts 'Mountains of Fun' and that is what you will receive. White Water Rafting, fishing, skiing, and much more! Feel free to email me with any questions or comments.

Pies and Pints Pies and Pints in Fayettesville has incredible gourmet pizza and is well worth the short drive from the resort.

White water rafting Check out Class VI whitewater guided trips....they were the most experienced and knew the New River like the back of their hand. Our guide, "Squirrel" was an absolute master - plus a talkative guy that kept everyone entertained!

Not many amenities in Daniels Drive into Beckley for shopping and restauants.
