I was in Spokane for a business conference and with a stressful flight, long day and new bed I did not expect to sleep. I do not sleep well any way. That night I slept amazing well. The bed felt like it was made just for me and I don't even remember closing my eyes. Haven't slept as well since. Thank you. Will be looking to by a new bed.

Beautiful and spacious!

My wife and I recently stayed here in one of the Parlor Suites. The room was spacious and beautifully appointed. The bed was enormous and very comfortable. Several gripes; the noise from the plumbing in the room above us actually woke me up several times. The interactive music service was expensive and difficult to use and local calls cost $1 each which we didn't realize until we received the room charges the next day. It's a beautiful hotel, but bring your cell phone and your boom box (if you want music in your room) to avoid those additional costs.

Wonderful Restoration

If you are ever in the Spokane area you owe yourself a favour to at least have a meal at the Davenport. If only for this fact the stop is worth it, but if you view the Hotel it is truly a wonderful restoration of a turn of the 20th century Hotel. Faithful to every detail it is understood the owners expended umpteen millions to return the Hotel to its glory days with resounding success. If you stay a night you will be rewarded with an exceptionally clean room and a shower ( even in the standard room ) big enough to wash your car in.

A truly great experience ranking with best I have stayed in over 35 + years.

This was a very lovely and comfortable hotel. Lots to see right in the hotel itself! The bed was SUPERB!!!!!! The only thing I would improve (and it's not worth marking them off on their rating here for) are the bathroom amenities. I'd like to see an upgrade in these, instead of the cheap dispenser products they currently use. I would definitely stay here again when next in Spokane!

Wonderful hotel

Our room was one of the most comfortable and luxurious we have ever stayed in. Rooms were refurbished a few years ago. We had a handicapped-accessible room, with excellent amenities including a roll-in shower. Only gripe was that the hotel constructed its handicapped-accessible rooms as far away from the elevators as possible: they should be adjacent to the elevators.

The lobby is a real attraction, and fun to sit in.

We were in town for a convention, and could have stayed in a hotel adjacent to the convention center. But we had little difficulty commuting the short distance from the Davenport hotel.

Great beds, but to noisy to sleep in the room

My family and I were very excited to stay at the Davenport in Spokane and looked forward to the experience.

The beds were great and comfy, but unfortunately the walls to the rooms are paper thin... We had to endure a night of loud party voices coming from the next room. We intended to stay for breakfast, but we were so tired from the lack of sleep we just left the hotel and continued on our journey.

We informed the front desk at check out about the noise, she could have cared less...

Don't stay at the Davenport if your tired and need rest.

A Great Old Hotel

We spent the last night of our tour of the northwest at the Davenport and were pleased with the results. The staff was attentive without being obnoxious (except for one young man in the registration drive through who wanted things done his way or else!). Our room was splendid: lots of space (they offered an inexpensive suite upgrade at check-in, but don't bother as the regular room is huge), beautiful furniture, outstanding bath, fine linens, excellent peripherals. We were pleased that we heard no in-hotel noise at all (we were surprised to find on our way to breakfast that we had next-door neighbors; it's that quiet), and while we were aware of some street noise as we went to bed, it was never enough to interfere with our sleep. However, a construction crew nearby woke us about 6:30, so you might want to inquire about that. Be sure to spend a little time gawking at the lobby and the bar; they are incredible. We found several good restaurants within walking distance to choose between for dinner, and had a nice stroll along the river, never feeling the least concern. It's a great old hotel (with a total reconstruction a few years ago) located in a fine downtown area. You won't be disappointed.

A gem in the Pacific Northwest

I arrived at the hotel during frigid December, immediately before Christmas, on a pressured business trip. Crushing work pressures and extensive cross country travel did nothing to lighten my mood.

But this hotel did: the Davenport was a true oasis. The staff was first rate.
My room on the top floor -- with a gas lit fireplace and four-poster bed -- was simply superb. Even the hotel video, which reviewed the grand history of the Davenport, was worth watching twice.

The first floor bar/restaurant had a first-rate acoustic ensemble playing at night, which appeared to "channel" Van Morrison, Neil Young and the Beatles with verve and good cheer -- warming up a bitter cold night.
Lunch at the other hotel restaurant was also a joy.

I don't know many people in the Northeast who find themselves traveling to Spokane -- but I'm an unpaid booster of this great hotel. Anyone traveling in the area should make it point to stay at the Davenport. The hotel is a true Northwest treasure, and the Davenport staff does it honor.

An Oasis in Spokane

This was my second visit to The Davenport Hotel, which was wonderful! I do not understand the negative reviews of some of the guests. This hotel serves on a Centuries tradition of excellent customer service. We enjoyed wine by the fire and an excellent dinner in the Palm Court. We had turn down service, which was to die for! When we returned to our room our beds had been turned down, soft classical music was playing and yummy soft peanut brittle was waiting for us. Our beds were the most comfortable we had ever slept on and the shower was bigger than own bathroom! Use the lotions and the shower gels, which they do sell downstairs (I bought some). You will leave The Davenport feeling like a King and Queen. Its so worth the price!

Luxurious and historic first-class hotel

As a frequent business traveler and a meeting planner, I have high expectations for hotels. The Davenport does not disappoint. Originally built in 1914, the hotel went through extensive renovations to modernize and bring into the 21st century. Free high-speed in the sleeping rooms, free wireless in the lobby – very unusual and greatly appreciated. But to reviewing the hotel: Public space is majestic, very clean and well-attended to. Restaurant and banquet staff attentive and plentiful, menus have something for everyone. After our meeting Friday night we went to the Peacock Room for drinks – the place was packed w/ live jazz music. I do agree with a previous reviewer that the activity in the lobby area can get a little loud but it did not interfere with my sleep (12th floor) or our three-day meeting (2nd floor). Self-parking is free, measly $10 valet charge - most inexpensive downtown valet service I think I’ve ever experienced. (Why do people assume downtown parking should be free? That never ceases to amaze me!) Sleeping rooms: I had a Parlor Room on the 12th floor. Room was kept very clean, nicely decorated, flat screen TV in parlor area, 1,500 volt hairdryer (similar to the power one has at home that the travel hairdryers most hotels provide). Bed was VERY comfortable, with luxurious Irish linens that I was very close to buying and bringing home. The toiletries were dispensed via pump at the sink and wall dispenser in the shower – much more economical and environmental. Their scents were a little manly for my tastes (think Molton Brown). I was pleasantly surprised with The Davenport and would highly recommend it to leisure and business travelers alike.

Beautiful-but issues with staff

I thought the hotel was really pretty. The rooms were nice, but the staff was not knowledeable and frankly-it ruined my stay. I showed up around 3 and hadn't had lunch, and asked for reccomendations. I was sent on a wild goose chase around downtown spokane on foot, NEVER found the place, was sent to another place and it wasn't open. The concierge had no idea about anything. At one point, she forgot who I was and started talking to me as though I were a fellow employee-and she was talking about me!!! It was incredibly odd.

I tried then to order from their menu and half the stuff had been removed from the menu. I had to wait until 5 to order what I actually wanted, and I dont' think I once heard an apology. I expected more from this hotel.

wonderful beds!

my husband surprised me with a small suite at the davenport on our anniversary. we had dinner at the peacock room. quite expensive but the service was great. our bed was the best! we slept sooooo well and hated to get up the next morning. had their sunday brunch. service kinda lax there. if the rooms can be purchased for a good price, you'll enjoy the stay.
lots of neat history and the spa is wonderful.

Top Local Tips for Spokane

Spokane Symphony The Spokane Symphony currently is directly across the street at The Met (Bing Crosby Theater), but I understand it's moving to a new location soon. Regardless, the Davenport will be close enough to make an enjoyable experience. The symphony was great, and I almost feel embarassed that the tickets were only $15 for the 4th row. Wow.

Best Restaurant on our trip Literally straight across the street from The Davenport is Moxie. This is a VERY good restaurant and terrific value. During our trip this year we dined at some great places in Portland and Seattle, but for quality and value Moxie came out number one!

Spokane is becoming a lot like Portland, Oregon-and thats a good thing. Do you like to read? Aunties Books is a local institution here and a wonderful surprise for the reading traveler. The Davenport area is full of art galleries, theaters and a few nice bars. The whole downtown reminds me of Portland before it got discovered. Very, very nice visit.
