What a place....

from TeresaWallaWalla_Wa
I can't say enough positive things about this Hotel. We stayed for our first time in June 2004 and were treated wonderfully. Check in was very quick, even though we showed up a couple of hours before check-in time, it wasn't a problem. They put us on the 10th floor, where we had access to our own express elevator for floors 10&11. The room was spacious and very clean. The bed....well who needs a "heavenly" bed when there is a "Monaco" bed. The hotel was very quite as well and we never seen nor heard, for that matter, maid service. They came and did their jobs as if it were magic.
We again had the pleasure of going to Seattle in July and stayed at another Hotel across the street. This Hotel was a 4 star rated hotel...but I wouldn't call it that. Not only did you hear doors banging but there was street repair going on that you constantly heard. When we went back to Seattle in August....we went back to our home away from home "Hotel Monaco".
Thank you to the staff, that go way beyond their job titles.

Some Kimptons are better than others, and this Monaco is among the best. The room decore was fun, the room quiet and clean, the Goldfish was great company and the service was good (save the Concierge who didn't have a clue).

I loved this hotel

I traveled by myself to Seattle and staying at Hotel Monaco made me feel very safe and very welcome. What a great hotel that is full of personality, and not only that, but knows how to treat and pamper a guest.

Monte Carlo Suite

We asked for early check-in and our room was ready when we arrived which was very much appreciated after a long flight from the East Coast. The goldfish we requested was already in our room. The Monte Carlo Suite was huge and very colorful. There was a king-sized bed, a comfortable chair & small side table, end tables, an alarm clock & a bench in that part of the room. There was also a TV and plenty of space for our belongings. That room was divided from the living area by heavy velvet curtains. The outer room had a couch which converted to a bed, end tables, 3 comfortable chairs, a desk & chair & an entertainment center with another TV, a stereo system with a CD player. There was also a VCR and an honor bar fridge with a large assortment of drinks & snacks for sale. Starbuck's coffee was available each day for the coffee maker. A newspaper was outside our door & after breakfast when we returned to the room it was already cleaned. We got to meet some of the other guests at the free wine tasting in the lobby. The hotel is conveniently located close to all the major sights & the concierge was very helpful in obtaining tickets for us to Teatro Zinzanni which is a kind of Caberet show with a 5 course meal included with the ticket. He also arranged for hotel pick-up to the airport on the Shuttle Express. This hotel was a big factor in our enjoyment of Seattle.

Wonderful Hotel

My husband and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco in June 2004. What a lovely, eclectic hotel! We were able to get a great rate on a room through Hotwire and were not disappointed with this hotel. We requested a fish upon check-in and it was in our room waiting for us by the time we returned from dinner that evening.
Rooms were quiet and nicely decorated. We especially enjoyed the complimentary wine reception that was held each evening in the lobby. A great place to meet fellow travelors and unwind while waiting to eat dinner.
The location is convienent to downtown shopping, Pike's Place, and the waterfront area. We would definitely recommend this hotel and look forward to visiting it again sometime in the future.

Great little hotel!

Two weekends ago we stayed at the Hotel Monaco for a weekend getaway. The experience was great! Our room was clean and bright (very cheerful). The rooms are not huge, but feel spacious. We phoned the front desk and asked for a goldfish when we got there. We left for dinner and when we returned our fish was there! The hotel is only a couple blocks from the Art Museum and Pike Place Market, which is great! You are also only a 5 minute cab ride from Safeco Field and Seahawks Stadium. I recommend this property!

We took our two daughters (age 3 and 9) to Seattle to catch a Mariner's game. We wanted to try a different out of the box hotel. We were extremely pleased with the bellhop, Art. He took our things to our room and showed us everything in the room. He told us the girls sleeper sofa would be turned down for us when we came back after the game and he would run right down and get our promised goldfish (that I had requested a month earlier upon making the reservations). We left around an hour later and had to ask the reservation desk AGAIN for the goldfish. When we returned late that night the fish was there but the bed was not turned down. But besides that, Art did a stupendous job.

I liked that there were two separate tvs, but I didn't like the fact that there was no lock on the bathroom door (you know how kids never knock) or a fan in the bathroom. After my shower the bathroom looked like a sauna.

Great value for the $$$

My husband and I spent 2 nights at Hotel Monaco for our anniversary in early March, and we had a great time. Booked the hotel in a package deal with airfare through Expedia - stayed in a Monte Carlo 2-room suite for much less than the cost of a standard room found anywhere else. We chose this stylish hotel for its central location and easy walking distance to major attractions (Pike Place Market, Pioneer Square, monorail, etc.) and for the unbeatable price! Since this was our first visit to Seattle, we weren't sure how the walking would be, but the hotel was definitely in the right location. The room was very nice (on the 8th floor) and comfortable. [I noticed some past reviewers complained about the decor - there are plenty of pictures on Monaco's website to give you an idea of what to expect. If you don't like bold colors, then why stay there in the first place?] Of course there are more luxurious hotels in Seattle, but this one fit our budget and expectations perfectly (however, if you plan to pay rack rate, or over $200/night, you might be disappointed). The staff was also extremely friendly and helpful. Don't miss Sazerac restaurant adjacent to the hotel - the food was amazing (save room for dessert)!

Close, but no cigar...

I like out of the box hotel rooms that don't look like every other hotel room you've stayed in. And the Hotel Monaco gets a gold star there. The leopard print bathrobes are one example. So are the trademark goldfish in your rooms. But with all the hype about this hotel, I expected more. We stayed in the Monaco Suite. Nice. But when I think suite, I think separate sitting room. Large, great view, right?
The window looked out on an alley. The bathroom was nice and had all of the amenities you'd expect of a four-star hotel including a great soaking tub. What really bugged me though was the merchandizing. Okay, I expect a honor bar to have pricey drinks and snacks, but the room was also full of goldfish theme stuff you could take with you at a price.
Tacky. The Monaco's location, however, is central to enjoy downtown Seattle. And the restaurant at the hotel -- Sazerac -- is fantastic.

Loved the Monaco

I did a package thru Hotwire from San Jose to Seattle for myself, my mom and my son. I got a very good rate on Hotel Monaco, United Air and Budget rental of a Mustang BUT i had to fly to LAX , UA's hub each way first sooo i won't be going thru Hotwire again, i'ld rather pay slightly extra with a direct flight. How can that save the airlines money? Anyway, Hotel Monaco is the way to go. Such great service, beautiful accomodations, great food at the Hotel Restaurant but extremely pricey, fun having the fish in our room. It was our first trip to Seattle, i would love to stay at this Hotel again and will. I hope to stay in Hotel Monaco in S.F soon as i live close, just for fun. I recently went to Disneyland and stayed at Howard Johnson and notice i was spoiled by the finer Hotel and will only travel now and stay at a finer Hotel because life is too short not to. Also, Seattle is such a cool town, very kid friendly, a town with a lot of young people heading it up and our Hotel was so close to it all, if you like to walk even better as it's all within walking distance and if you get tired you can always stop and a coffee cafe as they are nearly on every corner!

Top Local Tips for Seattle

the landmarks... It's best to save your cash for the great dining and live music in Belltown. Skip Pike place unless you want a quick cup of soup or fresh flowers, Experience Music Project is kinda lame for anyone who is really into music, and the space well...not that cool.

Rover's / Atlas Food/ Etta Rover's - expensive ($130 for 8-course tasting menu), food is okay, but you expect more than okay from an expensive meal! DO NOT order their cheese plate! Their cheese plate has no variety - ALL goat cheese! Service was slow - our meal took 3 hours! Altas Food in Village Mall - long line-up during breakfast hours. Food & coffee are very good - worth the wait! Etta - causal seafood restaurant at Pike's Place. Food is just average.

Bus or Cab The Cab fare FROM downtown to SEA-TAC is regulated at $28, but check the kind of cab you are getting into. The fare from the airport TO downtown is not regulated and runs $30-35. Notice that the cabs have natural gas tanks in the trunk to reduce pollution around the airport. Depending on your luggage and destination, there are nice shuttles available for less, and for even less, the airporter bus which goes directly to or connects to most downtown hotels. When we travel with just carryons, the bus is the best option.
