A great time in Colonial Williamsburg

We had a great time staying at the Williamsburg Plantation for our vacation in Williamsburg. The "apartments" are very spacious and gave all of us plenty of room to spread out. The staff was very courteous and most helpful. But one of the best things was the easy access to all the main highways of the area. It was just a hop and a skip to get to Colonial Williamsburg which made it even easier to go back and forth as much as we wanted. As for Colonial Williamsburg I highly recommend the evening programs. We went to five and really enjoyed the variety in what they offer. Its a wonderful way to learn history and have fun at the same time. Going to the 18th century play was really a good time for us and the rest of the audience which all participated but booing and hissing at the bad guys and cheering "huzzah" and "encore" at our favorites.

Williamsburg Plantation is definitely 5 star!!! The staff at the resort were very helpful. Anytime I needed directions, good dining spots, tickets,etc. they were great! I went in for the owners meeting, and the guest service representative was very helpful, and very professional. I ended up purchasing a 4 bedroom there. It is one the most desirable locations in the U.S. The rooms were clean, and the furniture was very upscale! The bathroom with the jacuzzi was designed great. It had 2 different doors entering, which was perfect for my guests and myself to use without bothering each other! I would recommend Williamsburg Plantation to anyone who wants to stay in first class accommodations. To the person who said the resort was "ghetto like" probably doesn't know what first class even means!

A Wonderful Revelation!

Our stay at Williamsburg Plantation, July 3-10, 2004 was most enjoyable. We were quite concerned after reading some reviews over the past couple months: ghetto-like complex, briney pool, unfriendly guest services, etc. We arrived at Williamsburg Plantation just about 3:45pm for our 4pm check-in; the parking lot and lobby was overflowing with cars and guests to check in. Within minutes, we had been checked in and given basic info and sent to guest services to receive our parking passes and attraction info. Almost immediately, Jocelyn took care of us -- she is super friendly and has a "go the extra mile attitude". She explained ticket discounts, answered all questions in detail and willingly shared some great info on local eating places. One sure NOT to miss out on is a fabulous seafood restaurant called "The Backfin" (not open on Sunday). They have the best crabcakes and die-for hushpuppies:) Better yet--they have family affordable prices. Our "B" unit was very nice, spacious and clean, quite comfortable. It is true the rooms are set up weird - but we remedied this by pushing the 2 single beds together to make a very nice king bed in the room next to the jacuzzi bath. As we were out sightseeing and having fun most of the time, we did very little cooking--only microwaving quick breakfasts. There is only a portable 2 burner stove unit, however all the other necessities you would need are there. Even though the heat index was 105-110, we enjoyed Busch Gardens, Water Country, outlet shopping and Colonial Williamsburg (we did our own walking tour in the cool evening!) VA Beach/Norfolk was a nice day trip. Even though the resort is not overflowing with amenities to justify a 5 star rating--it was quality. Hope you have as wonderful an experience. Make beautiful memories--relax and enjoy:)

Very over-rated. Does not compare to any other 5 star resort we have stayed at. Pool is saltwater and dirty, indoor pool small and closed. No whirlpool outdoors, indoor closed(07/04). Nothing appears to be being refurbished but pool was closed anyway. Landscaping is pathetic everywhere except around the sales office. Asked us to take a survey that would take 15-20 minutes. Promised no sales pitch since we are already owners! Then tried to sell us three times for an hour until we said we were leaving. Way too many parking spaces reserved for the staff. Also troublesome that they are all the closest spaces to where you are tring to go. Usually the one paying the way gets the best spots not the one there to service the needs of the paying guest. We could hear everything going on from the unit above us. I don't think the people above us were being overly noisey just that the units are so poorly constructed and sound-proofed. You could hear the AC units outside just as easily as the people above. Bring your own TP unless you have something you need sanded off of your backside. No customer service from the unhelpfull front desk staff. We had two families and two seperate reservations and they tried to bully us repeatedly to have them bill one credit card and said we could split it up ourselves. They said it would be easier for them. We thought we were the ones on vacation?? People staffing the golf reservations were freindly and helpfull. Maintenance replaced the broken hairdryer promptly. Room is clean and attractive but way too noisy and very overpriced. 5 stars?? Mabey on a scale of 10. If you are expecting a real 5 star resort you will be immediately disappointed. Twice as nice as a typical hotel room but at 10 times the price. Fortunately we spent most of our visit outside the "resort". Very few ammenities that you could make use of and we regularly enjoy on vacation at the typcal 5 star resort. No convenience store, resturant or bar on site. No tropical drink and pizza by the pool on a hot day. In fact no liquor allowed while you "relax" by the dirty pool. Best of luck, enjoy life, stay elsewhere.

I love coming to Williamsburg Plantation because I know it is always going to be five star treatment!!!!

We bought this timeshare in May of 2002, and have gone back once since then, using an exchange since we won't be going during our actual week.
First of all, I don't like the fact that you can't exchange a week and use it at other Williamsburg area resorts, but whatever.

Good:
Check-in is always quick and convenient.
Staff was mostly helpful when we needed them, mostly with directions and information.
When we bought (it was actually our 2nd time getting the pitch, which we fully expected because we were looking to buy), our salesperson was actually pretty cool, even before she knew we were going to buy. Whether that would have changed if we said no, who can say.
Clean.
Most things worked, I don't think we've needed to call maintenance the two times we went.
The first time we went we didn't do an exchange or anything, we had a sales deal, but we decided we wanted to stay an extra night- they gave it to us for free.
Indoor pool was good, but we went in May before the crowds arrived so it wasn't too crowded.
Some minor attractions actually gave us a discount because we were with the timeshare (Rosy Rump's Regal Dump, which is a lot of fun!).
Jacuzzi tub in the room is nice.
Park right outside your door.
Furniture is mostly comfy and clean.

Bad:
We got suckered into a 3rd pitch (our 1st since buying), saying it was a "owners meeting" and we thought the guy was a jerk so we weren't going to upgrade even if we wanted to. (Why do they have to lie about these things?). Either way, we got a couple of free meals out of it and they weren't bad, so that was nice.
Almost no amenities on-site. No restaurant, no bar. Gym and pool are used by locals, lounge is full of timeshare salespeople (who don't share their Krispy Kremes when they are giving you a sales pitch *ahem* :-))
Furniture is comfortable and clean, but not prettily decorated.
Upstairs units don't have full kitchens, which could be annoying.
Large bath with his&her sink, jacuzzi tub, etc, was located next to the 2nd bedroom, which is a weird layout.
Beds are a little uncomfortable (low quality, old and worn maybe?).
Shared washer and dryer between 2 units in not a good thing.

All-in-all, I wish I bought it on the resale market. Plus, I would have probably bought a different Williamsburg resort.
It's an ok resort, but not worth the price.

DO NOT GO!! I'm a very disappointed WP owner. RUDE staff. USELESS customer service. NO WAY it's a 5 Star Resort. NO activties for adults or kids at the resort. Save your money and go somewhere else.

p.s. My unit is still for sale...VacationRegister and they are just as bad of a RIP OFF. DO NOT use them to buy or sell your timeshare. They charge your credit card and then you never hear from them again.

Resort with potential

The resort is very nicely layed out with good parking and easy access to your unit. Resort is centrally located with lots of dining and shopping nearby. Some issues encountered:
The staff was not welcoming. They seem annoyed when asked questions (i.e what videos are available , directions to church, etc)
The units are spacious but confusing. The master bath did not have a hair dryer (the second bath did)
The in room safe did not work and was located in the second bedroom as well. The second bedroom had a television (master bedroom did not)
Dining room is huge!!! But kitchen only has portable burners and microwave.
Only one pool available for entire resort- too crowded most of the time- no lounges or chairs available.
With some improvements- this resort could be outstanding!!

Excellent place to relax

My husband, mother, and I stayed at the Williamsburg Plantation in May of this year. I don't know what the person who said the condos look like "ghetto" apartments is talking about!! I think maybe a bad experiance has biased their outlook.

The condos were brick faced, red doors, beautiful landscaping. The grounds were very nice. The back sides of the condos are very plain, but certainly not "ghetto" like. The interior, although a bit on the small side for a two bedroom resort condo, was absolutely beautiful, and exquisitely decorated. I did wonder though if the room we got, was a goof-up. The master bath was huge, with a jacuzzi (not just a jetted tub), a shower, his/her sinks, and seperate toilet room. But this bath was off the room w/two twin beds!!! (We just pushed them together.) My mothers room had a queen bed, but a normal sized bathroom, and the safe was in her room!! Was almost like they put the wrong beds in the wrong rooms.

I will admit, the resort staff was a little short with us upon check in, but they were very busy with a full lobby. However, any and all questions/problems encountered during our stay were taken care of very promptly, and courteously. I would highly recommend this resort to anyone.

Satisfactory but not what I would consider a resort

IMHO, this is not the place to stay if you are looking to stay on the grounds and enjoy a five star "resort" for a week, but it serves well as a base from which to explore VA.

The unit we had was clean and spacious and had a small patio with a nice view of the trees and a play area, but the unit was not fancy nor particularly charming and the lay out was a bit peculiar. The units are set up as a downstairs "a" unit and an upstairs "b" unit - almost like seperate condo's - each with two bedrooms. The "master bath" was attached to the kids room and was accesible from the living room - the "master bedroom" was small and had a smallish bathroom. There was a large T.V. in the living room and small t.v. in the bedrooms - but I could not figure out a way to activate the parental controls to restrict access to programming which was unsuitable for childred.

The kitchen in our "b" unit lacked a cook top, oven or cooking ventilation system and the counter was dominated by a very large microwave, and was thus inadequate for anything other than basic cooking on the supplied electric griddle and portable electric burners. (I should have cooked those burgers outside). I was informed that only the "a" units could legally have a full kitchen. (I did hear a complaint from one guest that her unit had nothing more than a small bar sink and a microwave cart.)

Our unit had an electric fireplace which was a bit cheesy for me, other units apparently had gas or wood fireplaces.

The "club house" and gym were of little use to us because they seemed to be primarily used for time share presentations and there wasn't much privacy for the gym and no real comfortable place to sit and relax.

The pools and kids areas were fine, but the outdoor pool appeared a bit murky - I believe that it may have used a salt water chlorination system which was easier on my kids eyes but may have contributed to the clarity.

Top Local Tips for Williamsburg

Do your research about the passes and events prior to getting to arrival We got the Historic Triangle Pass (good for Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown attractions). This happened to be the best pass - but we only decided on it by accident. We also had season passes to Busch Gardens - this also was the best deal for people who live near BG.

Busch Gardens - nothing special We went to Busch Gardens thinking it was going to be something unique. We were very disappointed. It is a nice park, but nothing we can't find at just about any decent amusement park. Kind of expensive, too.
