My daughters and I stayed at the Williamsburg Hospitality House for two nights as we were bringing one of them to William and Mary Law School. The location of the hotel is excellent, within easy walking distance to Colonial Williamsburg and other quaint shopping and dining areas. Plenty of free parking is available under the hotel. The hotel is well kept both inside and out, and the staff is friendly and attentive. We had breakfast in the Papillon room - very good, and we dined one night at their more upscale dining room - also very good. I would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay there on my next visit to Williamsburg.

Great Hotel and Very Convenient!

This hotel is conveniently located across from the College of William and Mary. We could easily walk to the campus and Colonial Williamsburg. The hotel is well organized and very clean. I thought the price I paid was very good compared to many of the overpriced hotels in the Williamsburg area. Breakfast was extra but it was not very expensive for what was offered. I would definitely go back to this hotel. My only complaint was that the air conditioning in the hotel room and hallways was very cold!

bad service after a night of false alarm

Although the bathrooms do not have ventillation
fans because of being an old building, but we
still chose to go there. My family regretted the
decision. Why?

Well, there was a false alarm at 3:00am and
all the people in the hotel left the hotel and
stood up on the street for almost an hour.
Then we heard from the firemen that the
hotel's panel was broken and had a short
circuit which had caused the problem.

The next morning we had to leave. I called
the front desk and asked them if we could
leave at 1:00pm instead of the 11:00am because
we could not even sleep the previous night.
They answered that we had to leave on time
or else we would be charged half a day extra
for leaving late. I even asked to talk to the
manager but they just left the phone hanging
for a few minutes laughing their staff.
I could not believe to be treated this rudely
after what we had experienced the previous
night because of their error for not keeping
their equipment checked.

So we left on time and decided
never go back to thishotel again. I can still
remember the families who had left
the building in the middle of the night
with their little babies in their hand all
because of the false alarm which was
caused by the hotel's unchecked equipment
which had a short circuit.

Kudos to the staff at this hotel. I realized I left my wedding rings in the hotel room many hours after checking out. Not something I've ever done before and I had no hope of ever seeing them again. I soon learned that I already had a message on my home machine telling me that the housekeeping person turned my rings in, and that the manager and HR person were poised to ship them back to me. They called me several times to let me know where in the process things were, and of course I am ecstatic to be wearing them again (I am about to celebrate my 20th anniversary). These people represent the epitomy of honesty and compassion and I will never forget them. The hotel is very nice, clean, accomodating. Buffet breakfast is nice. Proximity to colonial site is terrific. Reserve dinner ahead of times at the Kings Arms Tavern - peanut soup is an experience, as is the game pye. Enjoy!

Great package, Great Location for a small Company retreat

We bought the Revolutionary package for 4 families for a company meeting / retreat. The spouses and kids could walk to Colonial Williamsburg for touring and dining. The package included breakfast and we were able to use the gift certificate in the restaurant without any hitches. We also drove to Jamestown. The rooms were very clean. Internet was $10 a day and was managed by another company, so it was very dependable. And the packaged included a delicious breakfast.

A Good Choice

Immediately felt at home- lobby area was welcoming, staff friendly. The hotel has an elegant feel to it. It's too bad they don't offer free internet & have a complimentary breakfast - even if just coffee, juice & rolls.

Not sure why people complain about the parking... there was plenty of it & color-coded so elevator took us to correct part of building. We have a Dodge Grand Caravan & while we had to take our time when parking, never had a problem. The elevators are fast.

Room was nice-sized, bathroom a little small. Requested two non-smoking rooms, but one was not. Because we had two check-in dates for different members of our group, our rooms were not on the same floor as we had hoped (and requested.)

Housekeeping was a little lacking, but not terrible. The beds were small & uncomfortable... you really need a good sleep when sight-seeing/traveling. Noise was not a problem. Appreciated the room-darkening shades. Would be nice to have a night stand for each side of the bed, instead of just one between the two double beds. A/C worked well.

The pool is small, but nice & clean. The times we used it there were sunny and shady areas. Beach towels were provided.

Minor issue with the ice machines: machines very stingy about giving ice. The posted sign stated to call room service if ice was needed for coolers, which we did. The fellow from room service lugged a huge bucket of ice up to our room & then really laughed when he saw our small Igloo.

Location was great. We were out late several evenings & felt completely safe at all times. We walked to Merchants Square and to CW. Took a stroll through William & Mary. Loved the WaWa's just down the street... free coffee late in the afternoon.

Visited family who stayed at Patrick Henry Inn... glad we made the choice we did.

Happy at Hospitality House

Recently we stay at WHH. What a great experience. The staff was VERY nice...and helpful. When we need advice as to where to eat, what to do....they were there with all the right spots.
The room was OK...Not special, but we had a standard room. it could have used a comfy chair to sit in and read.
Housekeep was the down-side. The hallways were cluttered with dishes from room service. The room never got made up until 4 pm or later.
415 restaurant was very nice and the people who work there were helpful with suggestions....and friendly chatter.
Great Location....GREAT. Better than any other....believe me, you will be happy here.

Pretty Good!

I have to say after reading some of the poor reviews of this hotel after I had booked it... I was pleasantly suprised! We got the Splash & Play package which I felt was a great deal. It was 315 for 2 3 day combo tickets to Bush Gardens & Water Country, 2 nights at the hotel, and breakfast both mornings at their Papillion. The room had a king size bed and said it was $220 a night. The people working at the hotel were overly nice. We were greeted at the front door every time with people rushing to open the door for us. Once the man even ran to get the door open. The people at the front desk were eager to help you. The only problems we had were that the room was kind of hard to get to. It seemed like we turned and turned and went down hall after hall to get there. The parking deck was also very small and kind of scarey. Besides that, the place was great!

Nice place but a few problems

Hotel was nice but the front desk personnell could use some personality and knowledge! As you enter the lobby they have 2 desks which appear to be the conceirge desks. After waiting for the Concierge to arrive I went to the front desk and just asked my question. I got a very short and inadequate answer. The next day we called the front desk to ask when certain places close and instead of saying they didn't know or going and finding out they gave me an answer and when I got there I discovered that they were open for several more hours past when the front desk said they would be. I had a question the next day so I asked when the Concierge would be in and I was told they didn't have one and the they (the front desk) handles all those questions. For a hotel that charges several hundred dollars a night for a room you would think they would offer Concierge or that the front desk would have the correct and accurate answers! We stayed in room #168 which is on the first floor. We had a suite on 1 side of us and either the other room was empty or they were quite because we didn't hear any noise from any rooms or hallways on our stay. Yes, the elevators are quite strange as the ones right outside our room didn't even go to the parking garage where are car was at, we had to walk all the way to the front lobby to get on those elevators and the hallways are long. The parking garage as everyone states is very cramped and for lack of a better word, stupid. There are so many support pillars and the rows are so close together that you feel like you will never be able to back out of your spot. If you come with a SUV please make sure that you don't park in the BLUE parking garage as it dips down and is only for cars, you will rip your luggage rack off or scrape your roof!! I felt that they are not quite within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg, especially if you go during Summer, we drove everytime we went somewhere even though we really wanted to walk.

Decent Room

My stay at the hotel was nothing special because our room was small the bathroom was small and the tub had a drainage problem. You can image all the water filled with soap scum and body filth spashing around when you take a shower. I also think for the amount of money the hotel cost they would have a free breakfast for the guest. The breakfast service was not good either since I'm on the subject. Other than that it made for a decent nights rest.

Top Local Tips for Williamsburg

Colonial Williamsburg When visiting Williamsburg add the Mansion and Capitol passes. If you can get the guided tour. There are schedules printed every week for each days events. Try to park at the ticket booth and walk all the way to the Capitol and then catch the free shuttle bus back to your starting location.

You must go to the Yankee Candle store. The Yankee Candle series of shops on Richmond Road is an absolute MUST see while in Williamsburg. My children were absolutely thrilled when it actually snowed in the Christmas shop. There are mini shops within the store that totally cater to young children.

Williamsburg Taverns Ate at both Kings Arms and Christina Campbells with mixed reactions. Food was mostly very good (although Lobster Fricasse at Christina's did not live up to expectations). The entree price is about $5 too high (drinks and deserts are reasonable). The entertainment is less than expected (only a single person playing a flute or other musical instrument made a single pass through the dining room during our meal - about 1 hour). Ambience was as expected, but noting sensational. May still be worth the experience if you really want it, but I expected more and don't think it would be a great loss if one skipped it.
