Historical Traveller Reviews of Marriott Manor Club Hotel

Nice accommodations, poor service!

from TravelingClayton
I recently stayed with three friends of mine in a two-bedroom suite. It was spacious with the two bedrooms, living room with fireplace, and connecting room. I was impressed with the amenities including the full size washer & dryer and the large Jacuzzi style tub. I was told we were staying in the older section of the resort, but I still found it quite nice. It took us about 10-15 minutes to drive into Colonial Williamsburg, and the roads are not clearly marked. We got lost trying to find the main road leading to the resort. Lots of activities were planned and clearly displayed at the resort, but we kept ourselves busy with other things.

The only negative was the staff. The employee who checked us in was completely disinterested. He seemed bothered by our questions about local sights, and his shirt was hanging over his pants under his vest. Also, the lady in the shop was bored and wanted to make sure we could see how bored she was. We wanted to ask questions one morning at the "concierge" desk, but there was only one employee and she was too busy helping someone on the phone for a long time. There were two couples waiting in front of us so we simply moved on.

Our family just returned from a wonderful getaway to Marriott's Manor Club on Oct. 5th. There were 8 of us in all including 2 children. The staff was friendly and provided us with extra towels when requested. The room was very nice and included a fireplace and screened-in porch area. It is in a private secluded location but very close to all attractions. I would have to say the highlight of our trip was my husband ,I, and our 2 children taking a 4 mile bike trip around Ford's Colony. It was a beautiful day and exploring the community was fun. There were many golfers out and about having a great time as well. Marriott rents their bikes for $5 per hr or 10$ per day. We had taken our childrens bikes and were glad because they don't rent bikes with training wheels. Our 4 yr. old did very well on the 4 mile course. On our trip we also swam at the indoor pool which was not at all crowded. It was ice cream sundae day and for a $1 you could decorate your ice cream any way you wanted. Marriott has several activities planned for each day of the week. It was a wonderful stay at a truly wonderful resort. We are going back next July and doing the Busch Gardens/ Water Country Bounce ticket. We've been there before and they are two great parks!

Very nice, but not the best

We just returned from a stay at the Marriott Manor at Ford's Colony in Williamsburg, VA. We had a lovely 2BR/2BA villa which was very clean, quiet and spacious. The hotel is done in colonial motif. There are tv's in the living room, master bedrm and guest bedrm. The master bedroom has a whirlpool tub, and the toilet and shower stall are separately located and they give you plenty of towels. The kitchen is fully equipped and there is a small screened balcony off the living room. Full size washer and dryer are located in a closet at the end of the hall by the second bedroom. The resort sits on a golf course and there are two outdoor pools and an indoor pool. There are some negatives however: The staff is very unfriendly and this surprised us since we had just come from another lovely Marriott resort in Florida. The Marriott Manor is secluded and located away from the attractions in Williamsburg. The road leading up to it is poorly marked and the online directions take you to the golf course rather than the resort itself. We arrived during a rainstorm and the road was under construction and washed out in places and full of huge pot-holes. The pools are adequate, but not the resort-style lagoon pools with waterfalls that Marriott has at its resorts in Florida. The master bedroom mattress is soft and thin and not entirely comfortable. If you like to cook eggs in the morning, you might want to bring your own non-stick pan - otherwise you will spend time scrubbing the pans they give you. There are lots of restaurants and take-out places out on route 60 and I would advise you to do that rather than get a sandwich in the Marketplace at the resort. The pre-made sandwiches there were dated before our arrival date and never changed during our stay. One day we asked for the woman to make us fresh sandwiches and she was obviously annoyed with us. We told her to forget our order after she was picking up rolls with her bare hands, having just finished ringing the register and handling money from another guest. This resort is overall very nice, but be aware of the negatives, and just don't expect the usual Marriott level that you will encounter at other vacation resort properties they have.

Wow! Great for families!

Simply beautiful! The rooms were very spacious and lovely. The grounds were stunning and my family enjoyed all of the planned activities the resort offered. We found the staff very friendly and we look forward to returning.

Just Like Home

from MarcJordan
Overall this is a very nice property. We arrived June 9th, 2004. The architecture is quite different than other Marriott properties due to its location in colonial Williamsburg.

I didn't find the units to be luxurious. They are very comfortable but not, in my opinion, up to Marriott Vacation Club standards. The item that bothered me the most was the master bedroom mattress. It was incredibly thin and soft. It must have been half the thickness as a normal king. My other complaint was the convertible sofabed. It was not a queen, as is published, sagged in the middle and the springs were quite noticeable while lying down. Lastly, when will Marriott ever stock the kitchens with non-stick pans? It was a chore to clean up even a simple egg breakfast from the old style pans.

Other than these items we had a very enjoyable time. While Ford's Colony is off the beaten path, it's only a 10 minute drive to the "main strip" for shopping and dining. The facilities are good, nice pool, plenty of tennis and of course, the golf course. The setting was also quite good. The buildings are either set against woods or the golf course.

I would recommend this property to anyone and would also consider checking in again when I'm in the neighborhood.

Ford's Colony provided excellect accomodations, a secluded setting and plenty to do. Highly recommended.

Nice resort

My family and I went to Williamsburg on July 5th, and I was very impressed with the resort. We are not golfers, which by the way is a main feature of the resort, but amenities were way above average. The resort offered, tennis, biking, and swimming (indoor and out).

We stayed in a 2-bedroom villa that had a whirlpool, fireplace and believe it or not, enclosed deck. The bedding was comfortable and the attention we received by staff was excellent. The only downside was that it was difficult obtaining a burger on after 8:00PM.

We liked Ford Colony so much that we booked the resort again for Columbus day weekend. Hope this helps your decision process.

Happy vacationing.

Very Nice Rooms

from CarolinaMatt
My family stayed at the Marriott Manor Club for 2 nights in July, 2004. The 2 bedroom villa was very nice. The rooms were very large and very well appointed. The rooms are deluxe - way above average.

We arrived at night the first night, and found the roads leading up to the resort to be in atrocious condition and poorly lit with few signs. The parking lot was small and tight. The grounds around the buildings were not very well lit (gave a spooky feeling, and a feeling of security risk).

I found the front-desk staff to be a notch or two below a typical Marriott. They did not have my paperwork ready upon arrival, and had to hand-write it. The front desk service upon check-in was subpar. I expect better at a Marriott, especially one where I am paying $243 a night. I also asked for a late check-out (called late Sat night) and was told I would have to personally arrange it through housekeeping. Isn't that the front-desk job? It was told to me in a rather incredulous tone of voice. It put me off. The staff seemed unprepared to perform their duties regardless of when I had contact with them.

I also thought that shutting down the pool and the store at 10PM was too early. This is supposed to be a resort catering to guests. Since Busch Gardens closes at 10PM, you would think the pool and store would stay open later.

The pool was very nice. The kids really liked it. The hot tub was very nice as well.

The tv in the master bedroom was fuzzy, and they didn't leave coffee supplies for the second day.

I liked the resort, but didn't feel the service level was up to Marriott levels. I would have mixed feelings about staying there again. It wasn't so much the room, but the poor surroundings - the poor road (with few lights or direction signs), small parking lot, poorly lit grounds. Combine that with poor front desk service and it just doesn't overcome how nice the room was. If you are primarily interested in a nice room, stay there (but arrive during the day and have a 4 wheel drive SUV). If you want a typical Marriott service level, stay somewhere else.

A Very Nice Stay

I would like to say the resort was very nice. The grounds were beautiful, except for the construction that was going on by the clubhouse, The road going into the resort near the club house was all dirt roads and full of hugh pot holes so be-careful driving thru.
We had a 2 bedroom condo they were clean, nicely decorated and big. The beds were very comfortable.
There is a very nice supermarket one exit off RT. 199, Also there was a Target Store there and a lot of other stores. Just in case you forgot something.
They have a great game room, my 15 yr. old son loved the pool tables. Also have a lot of activities all day long for the family at the resort. We didn't take advantage of that, we did the sight seeing at Colonial Williamsburg and James-port make sure you go to James-port that was more interesting and informative then Williamsburg. Then of course we went to Bush Gardens. That is my favorite amusement park, better then Disney. It has such charm. The food there was great.
Well I hope this helps.
P.S. There was another review about phone rates it is true $7.00 a min long distance.

Great Vacation Hideaway

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed in a two bedroom, two bath unit with a screened porch. We were extremely pleased with space and the cleanliness of the rooms. I enjoyed the walking and bike paths daily. If your looking for a peaceful vacation the place is perfect. They even had gas grills and a gazebo for guests. As a previous reviewer stated, stay off of their telephones. My only complaint was that I was not able to use my cell phone on the grounds of the resort and was forced to use the room phones. Upon checkout I was billed $61.95 for 9 phone calls that were 2-3 minutes each. Ouch!

Top Local Tips for Williamsburg

Value Pack Make sure you check out the value packs for Busch Gardens and Water Country USA. You can save a good amount of money by buying a value pack.

Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown are not stroller friendly! Have a paved sidewalk at each location, it was hard to push the stroller around oyester shelled walk ways and pebbles etc.

Off the beaten path great food Adjacent to the College of William and Mary football stadium, you will find three great places to eat: The College Delly, Paul's Deli, and the Greene Leaf. The first two are reknowned for their Greek specialties and subs and the Green Leaf is well, a great place to go for a drink and some good food.
