Amazing Stay at the Kingsmill!

We recently stayed at the Kingsmill for two nights at the end of August as part of the Dream Vacation package, which included accomodations, breakfast each morning, Busch Gardens/Water Country tickets, and transportation to both of these parks. This package was, by the way, was a good deal ($625) considering how much all of these things would have cost separately even staying at a smaller, cheaper hotel. The hotel grounds are perfectly manicured throughout. The main lobby building is absolutely gorgeous, and has wonderful views of the river. Even better are the rooms. We booked a standard view room, but received a call stating that we would be staying the river section, although there was going to be construction going on on the river from a hurricane the prior year, left by a very concerned employee asking if this was ok with us. The room we had was in the Richmond's Ordinary section, on the third floor, directly on the river! There was also no construction in sight, at all! The balcony was lovely and the views were perfect. The room was large and immaculate, looked and smelled brand new. The bedding was to die for! The selection of shower products was immense and are all amazing. The buffet breakfast was wonderful in the main building with tables on the outdoor terrace with golf course and river views. The rec center was also very beautiful with two large pools, one indoor and one outdoor, both at a perfect temperature for swimming. Also, the transportation to the amusement parks was very fast and convenient, although we only used it once due to the lack of good departure times. Everything at the Kingsmill is gorgeous, and the staff are very friendly and willing to help you with any questions or problems. I can't recommend the Kingsmill Resort enough!

Bugsmill

My title says it all! Upon arrival we were met by literally a swarm of mosquitos and other bugs that proceeded to come into our hotel room. After trying to kill off most, we gave up and requested a room change, which the front desk did immediately. Unfortunately, the same problem met us at the second room so we got our money back and headed to our second choice during research, the Colonial Williamsburg Lodge. This hotel was far superior in cleanliness, no bugs to be seen the entire duration of our stay, inside or out! Also, if you want to be within walking distance of Colonial Williamsburg this is the place to be. The rooms are small but quaint, styled in an old-fashioned way, complete with hard wood floors. The pool and golf facilities are top notch as well. If we ever go back we would not hesitate to stay at the Colonial Williamsburg Lodge, NOT the BUGSMILL!!!

My Family of four and another couple stayed at the Kingsmill August 2 - 4, 2004. This is the nicest place that my family has ever stayed at. very luxurious accommodations. We got the family vacation package--The breakfast buffet was absolutely top notch every morning. The Room had the fanciest amenities we've ever seen. The people were the friendliest people we've been around lately. Transportation back And Forth To Busch Gardens and Water Country was excellent. The sports Club was excellent. No complaints whatsoever. We'll be back. Treat yourself to this place!

Expensive but Top Knotch

Just returned from 5 nights at Kingsmill Resort. I'm a fanatic for cleanliness and it past the test. The room were immaculate, the bed comfortable, the linens were top knotch; I actually slept. I'm not sure it's worth $600 a night though. We had a 'two bedroom suite' which is actually a one-bedroom efficiency with an attached studio unit. The room was very large and comfortable and had a full kitchen/dining room with brand new dishwasher, stove, microwave, refrigerator, and cabinets. If we go back we'll bring food and cook in the room.

The Sports Club was clean and well managed including a state of the art excercise room w/ knowledgable attendants. The locker room, hot tub, sauna, and steam room were also top knotch. We enjoyed the use of the raquetball court too.

We ate at the Eagle restaurant and left hungry after dropping a few hundred bucks. Totally overpriced for the portions you get. I had the lamb chops and of the four they served me two were 1/4" thick. After that, we ate off the resort. Our last day we ate lunch poolside and it was the worst pile of crap I have ever been served anywhere. The guy who runs the consession said he wouldn't charge me but it showed up in the bill anyway.

Overall we enjoyed the stay and were impressed with the accomadations but keep in mind that there is no beach for the price - you are in Williamsburg, VA. We have 3 sons so they enjoyed Busch Gardens & Water Country. We will probably go to an island for the same cost next year.

Very Nice

We are a family of four and stayed here from August 8th-13th and had very few complaints. We checked in at 4:00 and were in our suite within 15 minutes. We stayed in a 1 bedroom suite that was nicely furnished and equipped with a full kitchen, desk w/internet hook up, washer and dryer, and decent sized bathroom. There was a pretty deck that overlooked a stream and we were located near the main building and fitness center. Housekeeping was fabulous and very accomodating to our schedules. My only complaint about the rooms is the lack of insulation/soundproofing. Our first night there we had the unfortunate experience of a family checking in late after being in a car for many hours. Their kids ran back and forth for hours and the pounding on our ceiling was annoying. Unfortunately, this was compounded by an older couple (who either didn't have kids or forgot what it was like to have them) next door who proceeded to shout at them to quiet down.
The grounds were immaculate and the family enjoyed the complimentary breakfast and golf every day. The tennis courts were always available and in excellent condition. Regatta's was "o.k." for a quick bite, but would suggest the resort offer some quick kid fare, such as burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream throughout the day. If you are used to fine dining, you will be disappointed in Eagles. Other than the NY Strip Steak (over 40 bucks) which was "good", the entrees were poorly concieved and over seasoned. It simply doesn't compare with some of the better restaurants we have dined in, and we found the wait staff to be somewhat pretentious (considering what they serving).
Overall, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Everyone we encountered, from the front desk to the pro-shop, was friendly and helpful. Sandrika (at reservations) helped me plan my stay and was very patient and informative. If you do not plan to use the facilities (golf, tennis, health club), or want a place to rest while going to the area's attractions, then this is not the place to go. I would suggest staying at one of the hotels nearby and saving some money.

You will hear everything that goes on in this hotel. The walls are paper thin, and next door was a woman with her small children, who was screaming explitives at her all evening and early in the morning...something you do not expect at these rates. You also hear every noise from people in the room above (i.e., walking on floor or closing bathroom door), and anyone using the stairwell outisde (there is no elevator). And, icing on the cake, the only way any of the doors to any of the rooms shut is with a hard slam, thus making this cluster of rooms that much more noisy. But sunday brunch was excellent with a breathtaking view, and the staff is extremely friendly and accomodating.

In total, if all you want is a clean quiet room to get some sleep, try one of the budget hotels down the street.

Beautiful, clean rooms

My boyfriend and I went for a getaway ( by oursleves.. we had to make sure it was kid freindly, ha, ha).. very relaxing.. the resort was beautiful, the rooms where clean.. loved the king sized fluffy bed..enjoyed both water country and busch gardens.. liked the chance to bounce back and forth.. and transportation was a plus.. less hassle..we will coming back with the kids.. this time....

A few issues but the overall experience above average

My family and I just returned from a short vacation getaway at Kingsmill Resort....Soon as we approached the Resort it was very attractive and the staff very friendly and helpful. We were checked in quickly even though we had to wait until 4p.m. to check-in. The shuttle service is wonderful esp. in our case we have 2 very young children~
we never had to move our car once we parked in the parking lot in front of our room. The breakfast in the ballroom each morning was astronomical!! We enjoyed the service of not having to prepare breakfast or having to go out for fast food. The room was neat and clean but the enterance of the room (the stairwell) was very untidy and had lots of webs and creepy insects!! The A/C unit in the room was very loud and awakened my kids several times during our first night stay; this was the most annoying thing!! From the balcony we had a pretty good view of the James River but there again was those spider webs and other insects which kept us from spending too much time out there!! I was going to report our finding upon check-out but the overall standards and our experience @ Kingsmill was above average; therefore I walked away with a Smile!! I would recommend this resort to family members and friends...

Too much for too little

We stayed at Kingsmill after their complete room renovations. The service at the front desk was the beggining of a nightmare. The staff including their manager did not act with courtesy, speed or knowledge. Concierges tried to juggle the phone while talking to standing guests. After 30 minutes we checked in only to have to wait another 20 for bellman assistance.

The room was very pretty but the bathtub was dirty and chipped the carpet had paint stains and there was construction dust all over the closet.

I asked for an ethernet cable and it took 2 hours to receive it.

Overall the place is pretty, the staff is not they do not care

Overpriced, low-quality accomodations

Though the setting is nice, the accomodations and service do not match the prices here. Walls between suites are paper-thin; hope your neighbors don't stay up late, because you'll hear them as well as if they're in your room. Staff were unhelpful and downright rude. Would never stay here again, though we love the Williamsburg area.

Top Local Tips for Williamsburg

A great place for the whole family to eat The Whaling company (located right outside of kingsmill resort) has great food, a fun and family friendly atmosphere and great prices. We really enjoyed our meal there.

Williamsburg Taverns We love to dine at the Colonial Taverns when in Williamsburg. It seems more and more people are also enjoying this. For now on, we will make a reservation well in advance to make sure to get the day and tavern that works best!

Japanese Dining We ate at a Japanese Hibachi Grill named Koyoto Japanese and Sushi Bar. The food was delicious and one of the first dinners we had in a while that was actually good. Expensive. $21.95 for chicken and steak combo. Look for coupons before coming.
