Great Staff, Poor Restaurant

We recently returned from a wonderful trip to Williamsburg. The location of this hotel is great, the staff we encountered (front desk, housekeeping and waiter) were all very friendly. I have absolutely no complaints except for the restaurant; we returned to the hotel very weary one evening and decided to just eat there rather than drive somewhere else. There was only one waiter handling all the tables and room service orders. The kitchen was appparently backed up, because it took forever to get any food. When we asked if we could at least have some bread to nibble on, we were told that they had no bread. The waiter was very pleasant, even though he was forced to deal with many disgruntled patrons. This was the only unpleasant event of the whole trip. Stay at this hotel, but DO NOT eat at this restaraunt.

Nice hotel...great location

My wife and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites while we were in Williamsburg celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary. This is a relatively new hotel and the rooms were in really good shape. The room was a suite. The front half of the room was the living room, which contained a couch, chair, TV, mini fridge, and microwave. The back half of the room housed the king sized bed, dresser, and a second TV. In between the front and back half was the bathroom. All in all, it was a very nice room for the price. We had some problems with the AC. When set to Auto, it wouldn't hold the temperature to what I had set it at. I got around it by taking the fan off of auto and just setting it to high. Housekeeping was OK. We wish they had left us more towels and soap. We often took a couple of showers a day and found we didn't have enough towels or soap.

The hotel was in a great location. You are a couple of minutes from "restaurant row" and colonial Williamsburg was less than 10 minutes away. Both Bush Gardens Europe and Water Country USA were within a 15 minute drive.

I guess what really matters is whether or not we would stay here again, and we definitely would.

Nice hotel with minor flaws

We were pleasantly surprised during our recent stay at the Holiday Inn in Williamsburg. It was very modern with nice decor. Very convenient to attractions and pleasant staff. The rooms were spacious and well appointed. Minor issues included (1) the front room of the suite was dark since the only window was in the bedroom. (2) There weren't enough hooks in the bathroom to hang towels, travel bags, etc. (3) Although they advertise high-speed internet, the connection was modem-slow in the room and business center. (4) Housekeeping could use a bit of improvement (e.g., replacing tissue, toilet paper, etc). Would consider staying again if the price was right.

New, modern hotel in Williamsburg

Stayed here for one night, wrapping up a long weekend in Hampton Roads. The hotel is modern and clean. As Priority Club members, we received a complimentary upgrade from a standard room to a one bedroom suite. This included a bedroom with a widescreen HDTV & a sitting room with a comfortable chair, couch with pull out bed, desk, fridge & microwave, and widescreen SDTV. The room was so clean, it felt as though we were the first guests to stay there. Took advantage of the pool and hot tub. Front desk employees were friendly and helpful. The printer in the business center wasn't working, so a woman at the front desk printed our boarding passes for us. Really appreciated the complimentary replacement toiletry program. After several days, we were running out of toothpaste & it was nice to pick up a few free packets. Was pleasantly surprised to see lights in the room used low-energy compact flourescent lights. I'd definitely stay here again. Enjoyable stay.

Excellent Property

We've stayed at various properties in Williamsburg ranging from the Woodlands to the WIlliamsburg Lodge and other chain hotels in the area. This new Holiday Inn has got to one of the better hotels in Williamsburg.

While a place like the Williamsburg Lodge affords the opportunity to be within a few blocks of Colonial Williamsburg, this Holiday Inn provides far larger and more comfortable accommodations imho within just short driving distance to the Visitor Center shuttle where you can quickly gain access to the Colonial Williamsburg. There is no comparison between the cramped accommodations of the Woodlands vs this Holiday Inn aside from the direct access that Woodland's guests have to Visitor Center.

I am normally not a fan of what are often dingly old Holiday Inns that dot the countryside and I usually opt to stay away from them. But anytime I hear of a new property, I generally check them out because they are clean and modern. That's the situation at this Holiday on the Bypass Road. I think the place is great with not only clean and modern rooms, but SPACIOUS rooms. This is the age of the large home and I hate going to a hotel room that's smaller than my master bedroom suite. These newer hotel properties recognize the traveler's demand for more space.

We've stayed twice at this Holiday Inn - once for a week in the 2 bedroom 2 bath suite and another time for a week in a 1 bath King suite with a separate pull out couch in the living room area. If you have a large family, the 2 bedroom suite is hands down the best (a little pricey), especially if you want some quiet time with the spouse while the kids are sound asleep on the other side of the suite (wink, wink).

A few minor criticisms:

I didn't like the hotel's restaurant for breakfast or dinner so dont bother getting the meal ticket plans. Anyway, why would you come to Williamsburg to eat at a hotel restaurant?!?!?!? Part of the Williamsburg experience is dining out and there are a plethora of mouth watering pancake houses for breakfast and great restaurants for dinner.

The wireless internet is dead slow. I have a wireless card from my mobile phone provider which took care of that problem. There are two computers in lobby area, but i noticed kids usually hogging it up during the evenings.

Swimming pool was clean.

While one doesn't come to Williamsburg to watch television, and I don't watch much of it anyway, I was impressed by the 36" flat screened picture tube tvs in the room. There were 3 tvs in our 2 bedroom suite. TV overkill, but after a long day, if you like to watch the boob tube, you'll be pleased.

If you don't like the color green stay away. I don't mind green, and the room carpet and walls is in a green motif at this place. Pastel green.. not hospital wall green, but it may be unsettling for some.

Service was great for what little service I needed. I thought the staff was very nice. We stayed for a week and within a few days we were addressed on a sir name basis by the staff at the front desk. The housekeeping was fine and prompt. I don't understand the gvetching over 'service' when the basic concept is to check in and enjoy your vacation. You should want to be left alone with your loved ones and should have little need for attention from the staff, or to bother the staff since the place is completely self service and modern. The staff was great.

Great hotel

This was a perfect hotel for our anniversary weekend. The suite was wonderful and had everything you could ask for. The bed and furniture was comfortable.
The restaurant was excellent. The food was delicious and the service was great. We enjoyed dinner and breakfast with made to order omlets.
The staff was friendly and curteous.

Great hotel

We stayed at this hotel for three nights during Spring break. It is a very nice hotel and extremely clean. Check-in was easy and fast. It is very convenient to the local tourist attractions. Very good hotel. The pool does have too much clorine but is still nice for the kids.

Suspect better places to stay

New hotel, clean with very nice staff. We stayed in a two room suite which was large and comfortable, but the in room heater was noisy and the vent was placed so it blew directly on the bed. The toilets are high pressure low flow noisy and heard easily between rooms. The hot water was not hot. similar to the buffet breakfast they serve. I am surprised that a company that runs so many hotels didn't plan things better.

Choose Another Accommodation

I write this review as someone who just returned from Williamsburg last evening. I had traveled there with my nine year old daughter to see Jamestown. I have been to Williamsburg many times before... I chose this hotel based on TripAdvisor comments that I read 2 weeks before our visit. It was the wrong choice for several reasons. First, the staff were not friendly. Indeed I found them unnaturally cold for a hotel. I was not greeted when I arrived at 10PM- rather all I heard was "CreditCard", "Sign and Initial", "Room Key" and that was the "converstation" from the front desk person. The hotel is brand new but I found the stark decor as cold as the staff- others treated us the same throughout our 3 day stay-not a welcoming environment at all. Dim lighting, dark colors... I also didn't think we got our $$ worth. The one bedroom suite was $240 with taxes per night and did not incude a paper or any breakfast. The hotel does not offer pay-per-view movies. It was clean and did have a heated pool open 7AM to 11PM- great for my daughter. We decided to spend another day in beautiful Williamsburg and moved across the street to the Country INN and Suites- for $150 we had a nice room, similar pool but also a great breakfast, the morning paper and very, very friendly staff who aimed to make everyone happy to be there. The contrast convinced me to write this review.

Great Rooms, Restaurant Questionable

We selected this hotel based on other reviews, and it lived up to our expectatons in all areas, except the restaurant. Our king suite was spacious and comfortable, with wonderful appointments. We were especially pleased with the bathroom, which was very clean with ample room. Although we did not use the pool or fitness center, we did viist these areas and they looked great. The modern decor is a nice change in a very "colonial" town. However, the restaurant was a big disappointment. We decided to eat breakfast there on the first morning, and after looking over the buffet (which was not very fresh or appealing), we ordered off the menu. The waitress was delightful, but the food took a very long time to come, even though the restaurant was not busy at all. Our omelets were marginal, very greasy with limited fillings. In fact, my husband didn't even get the omelet he ordered. The coffee wasn't the best, either. We did not give the restaurant a second try for any other meals. There's a great Cracker Barrel a couple blocks up the road, which does a much better job at breakfast. Overall, the facility is terrific, just be sure to eat somewhere else.

Nice hotel - mediocre staff

The hotel is less than one year old and is decorated nicely. There is a small pool and whirlpool off the front lobby. The hotel is supposed to supply towels, but there were none available when we were there. The whirlpool had a foot of bubbles frothing from it, which was very unappetizing....
The guest rooms are nicely decorated and laid-out well. We stayed in a one-bedroom suite which had ample room for 3 of us.
My big complaint was with check-in. The first clerk finished checking in one family, giving a complete explanation of guest services and their locations. He then took a phone call, completely ignoring us. After 5 or 6 minutes, another clerk finally asked me if I had a question, and when I said I was checking in, she brusquely completed my transaction. I found out later that she didn't enter my Priority Club information and also neglected to give me a gift bag that they provide to PC members upon check-in. Then the room keys weren't programmed correctly - twice! The hotel staff deals with guests quite unevenly.
The location of the hotel is close to everything in the area - lots of restaurants and activities nearby (miniature golf, etc.)
The hotel itself is nice, but the staff needs more training.
