A Place to Relax

from Nomadd22
We spent 5 days here to get away from the routine. Check-in was pretty easy but in order to get our pool passes and parking sticker we were directed to the time share scheduler. We did sign up to talk to the "points" sales lady and after an hour and a half on Sunday we were rewarded with a $50 coupon to a nice steak dinner. Our unit was lovely although we had to climb 3 flights of stairs to get to it. We tried to minimize climbing stairs by taking what we needed on our first trip down and staying out for the day. Everything in our unit worked well. We enjoyed watching the golfers and eating our breakfast from our balcony. We also enjoyed the indoor whirlpool but the indoor pool seemed too cool to get in. The outdoor pool was wonderful with their fountain and benches built into the side. It warmed up nicely during our stay. As a matter of fact the weather was wonderful despite a report from home that predicted otherwise. Greensprings is not located in the best place for conveniences. We found ourselves lost even with their map because of a convoluted highway system. There is a grocery store down the road along with a few other stores. Building is just taking place in the area. Other shopping around town however, was great. Since Virginia Beach was only about an hour away we spent the day there. There is plenty to do in Williamsburg if not many activities at the resort. We found Williamsburg in general and Greensprings in particular to be far enough south to have a good measure of southern hospitality. I would recommend Greensprings Plantation to families and those on the slow track.

Fantastic Accomodations!

from PhillyGirlTraveler
I've been meaning to write this review for some time. My family had our family reunion last summer (2004) and we all stayed at Greensprings Plantation in Williamsburg. The accomodations were absolutely fantastic. As we were staying for a week with many children, we wanted something with more of a homey-feel than hotel rooms so we went with a timeshare. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. We were able to cook and do our laundry in the rooms and the location was quite convenient to get to historical sites as well as the amusement parks. The only issue we had was the power went out once due to a vehicle accident down the road and we were unable to get a call out to the front desk so we had to walk all the way down there in the middle of the night. We couldn't figure out why no one was able to pick up the phone and tell us what was going on. But other than that, we all had a great time. The only thing they could add to make it better is a real pool with a deep end for the kids. There was a pool inside that may have been deeper, but it was too hot in there. The outside pool only went to about 4 feet. I would highly recommend this timeshare to anyone staying in the area.

Great Resort

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed a week at the Greensprings Plantation Resort (May 15-22, 2005). We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay here again. The grounds are beautiful, friendly staff, easy check in/out and a great unit. The units are very spacious, comfortable and have whirlpool tubs. We found our unit very clean and with all the kitchen necessities. The tennis courts are terrific. It's a very tranquil resort, yet only minutes away from shopping, colonial williamsburg, etc. The only thing I didn't like was the pool, it was dirty and put me off swimming.

Really Nice--hated to leave!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our stay from 4-18-05 to 4-23-05 was really a nice experience. I really did not want to leave and come back to reality (work), but as always, everything must come to an end sometime.
Check in was a breeze, we got to Williamsburg 4 hours earlier than expected but we went right to Green Springs and filled out all the paper work and then went sight seeing. After about an hour they called and said that we could get in early because the room was done. Upon inspection of the unit we were very pleased with the size and all that was included: complete kitchen with dishwasher, master bath with whirlpool tub and seperate steam shower, washer and dryer--all very nice and well maintined. On our patio over looking the golf course I noticed that one of the deck boards had popped up over the winter. I called Maintanence and in less than 5 minutes it was fixed. The outdoor pool was out of order, pool pump was being replaced, but it was so cold it really didn't bother us any. The indoor pool is perfect for children, at it's deepest it is only 5 feet, but this gives the parents time to relax in the big indoor jaccuzzi right next to it. They provide activities for children, which includes: basketball, tennis, shuffle borard, put-put golf, etc. You just go up to the activities desk and they give you all of the equipment. What I thought was strange was that all of the activities are free--the equipment and play--except the Put-Put golf. That is $4 a game or $25 for the week for 6 people and really it is nothing spectacular. Out of all the Green Springs has to offer, the golf thing--who cares.
The staff are very friendly and polite as well as eager to help in any way. Oh--one more thing, they do supply dishes but it is really just the basics, one skillet, one lg pot, etc and a setting for 6 I believe, so if you want to do any fancy cooking or really large meals--bring extra pots and pans.
The only other thing I can add is---go there and have a great time!

Had a Terrific Greensprings Week

from A TripAdvisor Member
Sorry to read the previous review but my family just stayed at Greensprings from March 19th through March 26th,2005. We had a really great time. We were only wishing it was warmer so we could have made use of the beautiful outdoor pool. We did use the indoor pool and both the outdoor and indoor whirlpools. Our daughters(14 and 16) played tennis and shuffleboard. Our suite was fine especially the master bedroom with hugh tub and sep.shower. The gas fireplace was fun to have on as we didn't need to have the air or central heat on due to the mild weather. We found all of the people working there to be extremely courteous and friendly. We used the free internet in the ck-in area to ck directions and weather several times. The resort was really convenient to all of the Williamsburg attractions and we had no trouble finding our way around with the map they provide when you ck-in. My husband and I would definitly stay here again.

What a Joke!!!

from masonsmom30
I want to start out by saying that we have previously stayed at the Fairfield at Kingsgate and it was WONDERFUL.
Although this past weekend (march 18 - march 20 2005)
we decided to stay here.
It was a BIG mistake.
When we arrived they explained NOTHING to us.
We then proceded to the woman giving out the parking permits.
She asked us if we were planning to Busch Gardens and we said no, that we were going to Kings Dominion. She replied with an "oh" in a not so happy voice.
We then went to our room which was ok but layed out very strange.
We had barely any utensils or cookware. One pot, one pan.
I thought it very odd to charge us for local calls and no free internet.
Fairfield does offer both.
The second bedroom had to tv.
The kitchen had ANTS!!!!!
We then called down to ask to stay 2 hours later on the day of checkout.
They told us that this was only offered to "Elite" members but they would let us stay until 11:00am.
Then housekeeping showed up before 10 and said they were told we were checking out early.
They told us they were booked up solid and that is why we couldnt stay until noon.
This place is a joke and the people are SNOBS!!
I will tell everyone I know never to go here and to stay at Fairfield @ Kingsgate instead.
When we do finally decide to purchase timeshares it definately won't be here.

Great week for my family at an affordable price

from Copilot23
We stayed the last week of Oct/first week of November. Accomodations were great. It was our first visit and we decided we would probably return because their is so much available to do in that area. We had a 2 bedroom. The master bedroom has its own bath with two sinks, a jacuzzi tub and a separate shower that closes off into a steambath. We had a king size bed (admittedly not the most comfortable I've seen but it was not unsleepable either.) The second bedroom had two either twin or full beds. Our kids did great with them but friends who were staying in another unit had a tall teenage son who couldn't use the beds because his feet and legs hung over the edge. He slept on the pull out sofa. There is no maid service but there was a washer and dryer in the suite. It was a little refreshing not having to work around maids if you wanted to spend a total day at the resort. The grounds were landscaped beautifully and first class. Only drawback to the room was ours was third floor (top floor) and carrying a week load of family supplies up and down was exausting at the beginning and end of the trip. The other drawback was we were not given an option of smoking versus non-smoking when we reserved through interval. The fall colors and weather off our balcony was tremendous but we could not spend much time on the balcony because the unit below us had chain smokers who sat out on the balcony in the morning (same time I preferred.) But the inside of our unit did not smell like smoke at all and overall the pluses outweighed the minuses 3-1. Our girls liked the tennis courts, swimming pool and hot tub in the activities center. Staff were pleasant and helpful throughout the week. It is close to everything we did. We will most likely return in the future.

Nothing but the truth

Stayed during labor day weekend 2004. Beautiful grounds, spacious rooms, easy check in and check out. We stayed in unit 16 (166-80j). Included living room with sofa bed, two bathrooms and a jacuzzi. One king size bed and two singles. Perfect for a family of five. All for an affordable price. Had one major problem....Mice!!! I never saw the mice, but we did see their feces. Droppings on the counter and in the cabinets. I was in denial, until I saw a mouse trap behind the refrigerator. You would think they would at least clean the droppings. We saw it on the counter when we first arrived! Everytime I went into the kitchen I expected something to jump out at me. On a "surface" level place seemed nice, but they definitely need an exterminator!!!

Good spot for a family

from A TripAdvisor Member
I had my share of concerns after reading some of the reviews, but after our stay from Aug. 27 thru Sept. 2 I have to add my two cents. The location is very good in close proximity to all of the attractions. I found the staff very pleasant and helpful. There are only a couple of non-smoking buildings which are not close to the pool. Pool proximity is important when traveling with 3 small children, so against my better judgement we opted out of the non-smoking building and into a smoking one. I was pleasantly surprised, however, that unlike previous reviews, our unit did not become smoke-filled. It did not smell of smoke, and the location was much better. I thought the beds were fine, the unit was clean, and fully equipped. Although the organized activities were limited at best, there are several playgrounds scattered around the property. This is a time share property, and you should not expect to have maid service; but if you have a larger family and desire more room and a kitchen for reducing some meal costs this would be a good place to stay. I would go back.

Building 6A - Maintenance Issues

from WCT2504
Our first stay during this past spring, we found this Resort to be extremely enjoyable in every aspect, a totally first-class operation. However, during this stay, Aug 28 - Sep 01, we found some serious maintenance issues. We noted the grounds and sidewalk were covered with several pieces of trash, newspapers, paper plates, plastic cups, 6-pack plastic rings, etc. What was shocking no one cleaned this stuff up during our entire stay.
Our unit was located in Building 6A, Unit 66-30A. We found this unit and porch were filthy with dirty furniture, dead insects, spider webs, and food particles. Inside we found more food particles on the dining room carpet, a water damaged kitchen ceiling, cracked floor tiles the entire length of the master bath floor and a broken telephone plug. After complaining to the front desk about possible mold issues, the reservation staff gave us permission to move to Unit 68-32D. Much to our surprise, the 32-D unit and porch were also very dirty with spiders, webs and food particles. We would recommend that a preinspection of all units in Building 6A before you unload your car.

Top Local Tips for Williamsburg

Call First It appears the pools both inside and out have frequent issues, if a pool is important to you, call before you book to make sure it/they is/are up and running.

Use your kitchen If you have accomodations with a kitchen - use it. Meals are expensive in this area especially if you have a large family.

Touring the Plantations You must tour at least one of the plantations on VA5 (or the many others around the area). They are breathtakingly beautiful and filled with tons of history. The tour guides are very informative and well worth the few dollars they charge for admission.
