We had a great time. Our ages were 60's, 30's and 9 and we all had a wonderful time. We were there from Saturday to Sunday. There needs to be more changing rooms in the ladies area and they don't have to have showers in all of them. We found the staff to be pleasant and helpful. We would come back, and we think out neighbours may be going soon cause of us.

I won a trip for a 2 night stay. When I checked in they forgot to give me my room credit. I fixed that the next day and when I checked out they said I owed $9 that my room credit didn't cover. I was in a hurry and I handed them my Visa check card. Imagine my surprise when I found out the next week that I was charged almost $600 for my stay. I have called numerous times and am still fighting this. The management refuses to return calls and the customer service people have continously lied to me about who I should speak to. I also witnessed another person that was double charged for their stay. I would never recommend this place to stay at. Look up other reviews and you will find more travellers that have had problems with them.

Can we say WOW I came to Va to visit my son and his family and he took me and my 12 yr old son his wife and 2 & 4 yr old for a nights stay in Williamsburg, he lives in Hampton. My 12 yr old loved the Magi game, and the game room is great, The water park is awesome...The room, pricey but when you consider all there is to do and be able to relax and let the kids play you couldnt do all those things any where else for the price of a room under one roof...Thanks

My family and my sisters family visited the lodge in July 05. The ages ranged from 4 - 40 of our guest and I can tell you that there is something for everyone in this range and way beyond. There is an area for everyone to enjoy the water. Our favorite was the bucket that dumps 1000's of gallons of h20 on you every few minutes. Everyone that we have told about the lodge has gone and loved it. My daughters girl scout troops cookie sales money this year is going towards a trip to the lodge. The lodge beat out The American Girl store in NY. My daughter played our video pictures to the troop and it was all over. I think they have started packing their bags already. By the way the video photos were taken on a camera that we borrowed from the lodge. We turned it in prior to our departure and for $20 it was put on disk with music. A momento that we will be able to look back on for years.

Our intention was to wander about the Williamsburg area, but the children soon lost interest of leaving since there is so much to do right there at the lodge. Arts and crafts all during the day, some free some for a minimul and affordable price. And the gameroom is great, the neon glow in the dark carpet is WOW!

Great family fun, and who cares what the weather is outside, this is great indoor fun. Don't be fooled there is an outside water area also, but we didn't even use it. In fact it rained while we were at the park and we didn't even realize it until we went back to the rooms and went out on the balconies.

The rooms are great sizes, we had loft suites and well worth the money.

You won't be disappointed for one moment from the time that you pull into the parking lot that has a massive cabin overhang to welcome you. The only disappointment was leaving.

This was our 2nd trip to Wolf Lodge, Williamsburg. Last June, 2005 we were very pleased. Very clean (new), Restaurant was resonably priced with a fairly good variety for family dining. June of 2006 was a different story. Park was not very clean and the room especially the bathroom was very dirty. We asked several different management people about getting the bathroom cleaned before it finally was on the last day of our stay. We literally Had to beg for towels and toilet tissue. Cleaning service wouldn't come round until the evening when we were all back in the room for the day. We went outside of the hotel to eat all but one meal in our 4 day stay. The restaurant only offers a buffet that was very expensive and not very appealing to everyone in our group or family friendly. Couldn't even get a bagel and cup of coffee in the morning unless I wanted to pay $12.95 plus tax and 18% gratuity for the breakfast buffet. 18% Gratuity was automatically added to your check regardless of the service you did or in our case did not receive. Our waitress was not to be found so we had to keep asking other waitstaff for assistance/drinks, etc. We kept hearing the word "sorry" a lot through out our vacation but nothing ever changed. I could go on but I get very upset when I think about the disappointing time we had. If you don't have money to burn go somewhere else. It just isn't worth the high price you pay.

Family (5 adults, 2 grandchildren) stayed mid week for one night. The front desk staff and water park staff was great. The rest of the staff acted like we were as welcomed as a dead person. The water park and other features were great!!!! Room was not very clean found previous guests personal towel hanging from bathroom door handle, trash under bed and table, we had to clean the microwave before we felt we could use it, The room was to sleep 8 we had towels for 6 and had to wait an hour for the additional towels. Had to beg for a replacement roll of toilet paper-found a cart with paper on it helped ourselves. The womens bathroom in the lobby did not have toilet paper in ANY of the stalls and this presented a real problem for a mother of a 4 year old who had a runny problem. When one of the staff was told they just walked away. Daughter had pictures taken by the staff but could never find anyone to show the pictures to her. The restraurant buffet was very good but highly over-priced. The wait staff was very poor-the 15% automatic added gratuity did not provide any incentive to do a good job. Had to hunt done the waitress to refill drinks and it took forever for her to return. When we refused to pay the +$20.00 tip for poor service we had to go through the hostess to get someone in charge who we found out later had no authority to do anything and was about as friendly as a hungry wolf. Her fix was to tell the waitress to do better next time. The hotel manager was very well trained to listen to complaints, smile and then do nothing about them. This was our first and last visit. If you need to go to a water park in the Williamsburg area go to Water Country, stay at a Holiday Inn Express and eat at one of the many restraurant in and around the area. Great staff at all and cheaper. You pay for a great looking hotel but do not expect to much. Recommend the management take lessons from the hotels in and around Hersey, PA on how to take care of customers.

This resort was perfect for my family. With children ages 10 and 12 there was plenty for them to do. The hotel staff was very friendly and very accommodating even though when we arrived for check in at 4:10 pm our room was not available. The hotel itself was quite clean, rooms were spacious and comfortable(we had the basic suite). Busch Gardens was only 10 minutes away. Of course, it goes without saying, the water park was the reason for our stay here and it did not disappoint! My only negative was the food and restaurants within the hotel. The menus were definitely prepared with children in mind and did not offer much of a variety to please an adult palate.

Boys had a blast; Mom...a little disappointed

Our boys loved it! We took our two (12 & 13) and two of their friends (12 & 13) for a B-Day weekend. They had a ball. The waterpark was excellent and they loved the arcade. The restaurants were a bit disappointing, but there are many great places very close to the lodge... I'd recommend venturing out for meals. My only criticism would be the room amenities. The 2-room suite we stayed in cost over $500/night (Majestic bear) and although the size was great for all six of us and the waterpark is included (tickets to another nearby park run about $25/day), the room was outfitted like a low cost hotel. The sheets and towels were very thin (the waterpark towels were even worse), there was only one mirror (located in the bathroom) for the entire 2-room suite (this would have been a nightmare if I had daughters instead of sons!), there was only one pack of coffee, one small container of shampoo, one small bar of bath soap, no soap dish, no bath map in the tub etc. I expect this at a budget hotel, but this hotel isn't 'budget'. I suppose I could have hunted down a staff member and they probably would have brought us more of each item, but I shouldn't really have to. When we go to hotels like this (we travel frequently as a family), we just expect it to be there. I guess what I'm saying is, don't expect a $500 room with amenities as such (or even a $400 or $300 room). Expect the same thing you would at a standard stop along the interstate (bring your own towels, shampoo, hairdryer, soap etc) ... but with a great waterpark as a bonus.

Your kids will have a blast!

from Adeegirl
The third day of our family vacation to Williamsburg, VA we checked into Great Wolf Lodge. We were there from 6/22- 6/25/05. I kept this part of the trip a secret from the kids, and they were thoroughly surprised when we arrived. The log cabin motif is exciting. My son said that he felt like he had gone camping. The kids went crazy over the waterpark--lots of water slides, a wave pool, a lazy river! They especially liked standing under the 1,000-gallon bucket that tips over every 5 minutes. Life vests are available for your kids if you ask. The towels are there for you too. The best part is that it's all self-contained, and you can go back up to your room whenever you want. I never had to wait longer than a few minutes to get on the larger water slides; it wasn't crowded because the waterpark is for resort guests. As for the layout of the place, the waterpark, arcade, spa, and cub camp are on the first floor. This actually feels like the basement, because you enter the lobby on the 2nd floor. The restaurants are on the second floor also. We had a second floor room, and it was very convenient to everything. A slight disappointment was that our room overlooked the back of the waterpark portion of the building, which meant that we had a boring view of the ventilation system. Some rooms overlook the outdoor pool, or the front of the building. The laundry room only had 2 washers/2 dryers. Almost everyone had swimsuits drying on their balconies.

The resort offers some amazing themed rooms, guaranteed to captivate any child. They are quite costly, from $339 and up. (Even if you don't stay in one of the theme rooms, it's fun to peek in an unoccupied one!) We had a family suite for $239/night, which was just fine for our family of 5 (3 kids, ages 8 and 12). I highly recommend Great Wolf Lodge for a family vacation any time of the year--no worries about the weather since the majority of it is indoors. A 3-night stay was adequate for us. Like others who've reviewed this resort, I recommend that you stay at a cheaper hotel while you're visiting other Williamsburg attractions, and then go to Great Wolf Lodge when you're ready to devote all of your time there, to get your money's worth. We had a fantastic time. Every child I saw looked absolutely happy! My kids liked it better than the 2 days they spent at Busch Gardens. There's no place else like it.

Shaky start but overall good.

We checked in on June 19th for Father's Day. Our check-in was quick and we were off to our room. We were all anxious to get to the waterpark so we were changing into our swimsuits. I walked over by the bed and stepped in something wet - VOMIT. I immediately washed my foot and called the front desk. She said they would send someone to clean the floor. I insisted we get another room and she said she did not know if one was ready - I told her we'd wait. She said we needed to come to the front desk. When we got to the front desk the manager came out and apologized and gave us a $50.00 credit and we got a new room. This one was clean and upon checking it out our 5 year old declared "Nope, no vomit in this room!!".

Overall our stay was good. I would have given it a higher rating but the beginning wasn't so great. We had been in April and stayed in a KidsCamp suite and this time we stayed in a family suite. Our family suite was fine but the big plus for us with the KidsCamp suite was having two televisions. At rest time that would have been nice.

The waterpark is fabulous. There is something for everyone. The food in the restaurant was good although pricey. The sweets shop by the waterpark is a fun place to go get a treat but at $12.00 for a dozen doughnuts its worth the very short trip to Wal-Mart. Also, Pierce's BBQ down the street the other way is REALLY good. The arcade was fun for the kids (especially the biggest one, Dad) and we had a bunch of prizes on the way out. This can get pretty expensive though. My kids got tattoos and they didn't last as long as we'd hoped. If you get one at the beginning of your stay they will do it again if it has worn off by the end. Another good thing was the Cub Club. It was especially good when the 2 year old was taking a nap to take the others to the Cub Club. They have lots to do in the room other than the advertised crafts. There are games, movies, and toys. We also took advantage of this on the last day when I didn't want to go into the waterpark again.

One of the greatest things was the digital camera they will supply for you. It is totally waterproof and the kids loved having their pictures taken under water. It is free to use and they will burn a CD for you for $25.00. I didn't bring my camera so this was a great little bonus for us.

Overall I would recommend a stay here mainly for the waterpark. I'm not sure I would pay the price to sightsee in Williamsburg. I think I would go somewhere else to sightsee and stay here for a couple of days just for the lodge itself. We stayed Sunday - Wednesday and never felt the need to leave (other than to go to Wal-Mart for fruit and snacks).

great waterpark, but service problems

from A TripAdvisor Member
We drove down to celebrate a family birthday. We loved the waterpark.
It was clean and a lot of fun for our kids and us too. But there seemed
to be a lot of problems with staffing. Our room was not ready at 4:45 p.m. and the front desk staff, who seemed overworked and unfriendly, didn't apologize, but just told us they were running behind. The food at the hotel was good, but there was an incredible 45 minute wait in the cafeteria line. The waterpark is great, but the hotel seems way overpriced especially considering the service isn't very good.

Wonderful time at Great Wolf

from asen
My husband and two kids(11 and 8) stayed at Great Wolf for six nights. We had a great time. My husband and I had checked it out while in Williamsburg in March and couldn't wait to see our kids eyes when they walked in. And they didn't disappoint us. We have stayed at Disney many times and they were a little disappointed we weren't going back this year. But, they quickly decided this hotel was great! We stayed in a Kid Cabin suite. It provided more than enough room! The kids loved having their own 'cabin' with TV, bunk beds and nintendo. The fireplace was a nice touch as well. The only negative I can think of in the room was the mattresses/sheets in the kids cabin. They weren't really mattresses. It was a hard maybe bean bag set up with a vinyl cover??? Each one had a sleeping bag sort of flannel sheet set on it. This would probably have been fine for younger children...or for short stays. But after the first night, we ran to the Wal-mart which was about 2 minutes away and bought 8.00 foam mattress pads and then requested regular sheet sets. Much better.

We spent a great deal of time(some time every day) in the water park. There was something for everyone. My 8 year old son who never fears anything spent most of his time going down the bigger water slides. He went on them again and again. My 11 year old less adventurous daughter loved the wave pool and the lazy river. We all played basketball. We all got in the jacuzzi(capacity 80) for kids/adults and my husband and I even went in the adults only one while the kids played. The outdoor pool was good too. Plus, our nightly windup at the waterpark was to have dippin' dots ice cream. The kids thought it couldn't get any better.

The restaurants were fine. A little pricey, but we got big portions of food. We thought the quality was okay. Could have been better. We also spent a fair amount of time in the large arcade where you can very quickly wind up spending lots of money. Again, the kids loved it. We didn't take part in the activities except for the scavenger hunt which was fun. They looked good, but the kids wanted extra time at the waterpark. I read in other reviews about check in problems. We didn't experience that...it only took about 10 minutes and there were several other check in's. Each staff member we dealt with was very friendly and helpful. The cafe down by the waterpark was very tempting....krispy kreme donuts, fudge, ice cream, pastries, starbucks coffee. We visited more than once. We also visited the on site Pizza Hut more than once. I would have liked to have done the Aveda spa!
Maybe next time.

All in all, it was very impressive and we had a great time and would definitely go back again.

So great we stayed another day

from chauchat
Our family of six (kids: 12, 12, 12, and 14, all girls) wanted to mix education and fun in a trip to Williamsburg and D.C. Well, the Great Wolf provided enormous fun, so much so that we stayed an extra day. We had changed our reservations once already, but the front desk was very gracious about all our changes. The water park is a blast...definitely exciting enough for three days for teenage girls. Although it was a weekend, and quite crowded, it didn't bother us. Even my hydrophobic husband went on the raft slide several times; as the slides are new, they are smooth and comfortable. The park was clean and the water warm and relaxing. The food at the restaurant was actually very tasty. The adult beverages needed some work, however. Never order a martini at a kid hotel! The room was small but did house six surprisingly well (I believe we had the junior suite). We were down the street from Walmart, but that was actually an advantage, as we could purchase snacks. The superstores were separated from the Lodge by woods. The outlet malls are closeby...worth a look if you are a shopper. Williamsburg is about ten minutes away. We would definitely stay here again. I would recommend booking early; the prices rise significantly closer to the date of arrival.

Very nice, Very fun with some service problems

from A TripAdvisor Member
This place is a great time for kids and adults who are kids at heart. The water park was big fun and very enjoyable. The restaurants are fun with Disney-level interior designs. The food is fun but not superb. Kid’s meals are served in tin buckets and they have fun kid themed appetizers and excellent fun kid themed desserts. The lines to check in were horrible. The staff took close to 20 minutes with each person. With us, they only took about 7 minutes so I don't know why the wait took so long. The entire check in line took almost 1 ½ hours. Not fun when you are excited to start your vacation. They have many extra activities that you really have to pay close attention to in order to figure out what and when they are. They have a scavenger hunt that is ridiculously time consuming. It is less a true hunt more a trivia search on the hotel. They have a coloring contest where the colored sheets must be turned in very early in the morning. A children’s room with sullen staff who just sit their quietly. They advertised ongoing crafts but we stopped by 2 times and NONE of the crafts were set up. I asked the second time about a craft and the staff looked up from her computer and said to another woman there should be something out on the table and then they did nothing. A staff member also dumped a cup of water on my head and my 2 years old's head while we were in the young children's pool. I think he was just a teen staff member who didn't think through his actions but I lost a contact (they were disposable so not a huge deal) and my two year old was not happy. All in all our kids loved it and are still talking about it a month later.

Waterpark- fun! Overnight stay-pricey.

from A TripAdvisor Member
We let our son pick this hotel for our Williamsburg stop on our family vacaction. He couldn't wait to get to the waterpark and we spent most of our time there. Had we know that we could just buy tickets to the waterpark for $15/person we might have been tempted to stay elsewhere. Don't get me wrong the hotel was great. It is really family oriented-there was even evening storytime for the kids in the lobby and please don't get my son started on the video arcade...But I felt really guilty paying $250/night for the Kid Kamp room that we barely saw. (That price was after the grand opening discount, the room is normally $339/night.) If the money isn't an issue for you then I whole heartedly recommend this hotel- just don't expect to leave rested!

Worth every penny.......................

from mylesmom
I surprised my family with a stay here and they loved it. My husband, son (7 yrs.) and I have traveled quite a bit since he was 3 months old. Got him use to traveling early on. We've been to the Carribean, Mexico, on cruises etc. We have stayed in Williamsburg before to go to Busch Gardens. This hotel is not your average hotel. Upon entering the lobby you get that rustic camp feeling right away. The lobby is warm, cozy and inviting. We were checked in immediately even though check in time was a few hours away. Even if your room isn't ready you can use the water park as soon you get there. You can also use the water park the day of check ot right up until it closes. The water park hours are from 8:30am-10pm. Our room was very nice for what was described as a budget room. It had 2 very nice queen size beds, with a sitting area separated by 3/4 of a all that had a sleep sofa and a table and chairs. The bar area had refrigerator, coffee maker with coffee, microwave. The dressing area has a mirror over the sink with a hair dryer which was vdery convient to have. The room itself is very roomy and the high ceilings add to that feeling. There was a nice bathroom with tiled shower and floor. The TV has an X-Box attached to it. Watch out, it is 5.95 plus tax for 1 hour of play. You can stop and start it at any time within that hour. They use cards similiar to cruise lines where everything is charged back to your room so no money exchanges hands except at the arcade.
My son lost his mind when he saw the water park, he didn't know which way to go first. the adults were having just as good a time as the kids. There are 2 heated jacuzzis with water falls and jets that will hold 80 people each. There is a wave pool right next to it. There is a rock climbing wall across from it. There are 3 huge slides that were a blast to go down. Each offering it's own experience. There is an interactive playhouse with 2 slides, a bucket that dumps water on you and things that alow you to squirt people as they pass. The other pool has basketball hoops and more interactive activities. The outdoor pool wasn't open yet but looked very inviting. Plenty of nice fresh towels all the time. The towels just aren't big enough for adults really but they'll do.
We did not dine on premises but the food and the prices were average for a resort. The breakfast buffet was 10.95 per adult and 5.95 for kids under 12, kids 3 and under free. This was all you can eat. We decided to dine on Williamsburg's restaurant row. Exiting the hotel to your right on Rochambeau Drive, take the next right onto Airport road follow this to a left onto Richmond Road. There you will find Outback, Applebee's, Cracker Barrel, Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Pizza Hut )with a nice lunch buffet), Red, Hot and Blue etc. Also, exiting the hotel to the right you will find a very nice BBQ place called Pierce's. It has great prices and a very nice picnic area to eat at. There is a Sonic as you exit the hotel to the left as well as a Super Wal Mart. It is very close to the Williamsburg Pottery.
There is are many activities offered for the kids. hey give you a list of the events of the day at check in. They offer craft making, treasure hunts, magic show, bed time stories (if there is such thing as a bed time when they kids are here) :-) The arcade games a nice and the value here is good.
I did not try the spa but spoke with a lady that did. She had a paarfin pedicure that she said was nice but wasn't worth $80. I had to agree my pedicure (before I got there) was $20 and looked the same as hers.
We will be visiting again for sure. Make sure to check their web site because that's where you get the specials etc. They also offered a special rate when we checked in if you wanted to stay additional nights. Wish we could've take advantage of that. Any questions just e-mail me.

Yikes! Watch out for those hidden fee extrators!

from goldfinger8000
Becareful folks!!!! Making a reservation online and then cancelling will cost you a 10% fee no matter how early you make it. They are a small operation and will try to make money no matter what!!!! I did not stay there so I wont comment. It seems to be a nice family place but I could not make the dates due to a confict with travel plans. I have never had this happen ever and I travel around the world. I just chalk it up to a lesson learned. Make SURE you are committed to the booking!!!!!! YIKES!!!

Fun Family Vacation!

Stayed at the Great Wolf the end of April with my husband and 2 1/2 year old daughter. We loved everything about the lodge! The lobby area is beautiful and my daughter flipped when she saw her room! We stayed in a Kid Kamp room on the 1st floor. She loved her "special room" and we had some privacy as well. It was nice because we were on the same floor as the waterpark and the arcade (which was a ton of fun--even for a toddler) but far enough away not hear a lot of noise.
The food was good quality and there were tons of choices for everyone. My daughter loved the fact that Biko the Bear came by to visit while we were eating breakfast!
The waterpark was amazing. We really enjoyed the family raft ride. I did notice however, that my daughter's teeth were often chattering because she was cold. Perhaps they are still working on the temperature in the park. Besides that, everything was perfect.
We will definitely be back to visit the Great Wolf Lodge! In fact, we stayed at another hotel after the Great Wolf and my daughter cried because she didn't have her "special room"!
