Too Small
from tywwiaOn the down side: The suites are the smallest I have seen for Embassy Suites. We are fairly certain that this was a regular (non-suite) hotel that was then retro-fitted for Embassy Suites - you could see where the wall separating the living room and bedroom was added. As a result, these 2 rooms were a bit smaller, though not unbearably so. The bathroom, especially the bathtub/shower was a bit too snug. The main problem, though was the door and the separation between the living room and bedroom. Unlike most Embassy Suites that I have seen, the bathroom was at the front, not between the two rooms. Therefore, the bedroom and living room abut onto each other fully. This would not be a problem, except that the door between them is a sliding glass door with a curtain over the windows (you can see a picture on the hotel home page). As a result, light and noise bled through easily. On family travel, we have our 7 year old with us - we found that the noise from our TV and the light from our bedroom intruded into the living room while she was trying to go to sleep; in the morning, the reverse was true when she woke up early and turned on the TV in the living room. Basically, you lose most of the privacy advantages of a suite for family travel...
The room was not bad for a couple on their own, but I would look at another suite hotel first for family travel...
Outdated, but clean. Great management makes the difference.
from TexasPlannerYes, the rooms and the atrium need renovation. Since we are govt employees, the rate certainly makes it palatable.
The hotel is staffed by courteous, efficient employees and managed well. This ameliorates the mint green and peach decor.
My children loved the unlimited Shirley Temples and Goldfish (if they put out a spicy snack, just let them know you would like something else). My husband and I loved the free wine, beer and spirits- Carl is friendly and accomodating. The breakfast was good, typical cooked to order Embassy fare.
We are not sure at what price we would not stay here but considering our very bad experience at the local Homewood, this hotel trumps that one at any price.
Great hotel
from hartersWe were spending four nights here and we found the suite spacious with everything you could need. When we first arrived, one of the two TVs wasn't working, but this was replaced, within minutes, by a very efficient and friendly member of staff.
The staff in general were extremely pleasant and helpful, especially the chefs in the "cooked to order" breakfast section. Great idea, that.
The manager's "free drink" was something we hadn't come across before. Another plus point. The comment in an earlier post about smokers seems over-exagerated. We are non-smokers and were untroubled byt he fact that smokers are restircted to one end of a very large lobby area.
We liked it.
t stay again
from A TripAdvisor MemberDefinitely not up to Embassy Suites standards!
from pjmcjmNot the worst and Not the best
from A TripAdvisor MemberI would stay here in the future for less than I paid but I do not feel it’s a $200 a night hotel!
Disappointed...
from SkrapbookerGreat Place - Getting a Bit Worn Around the Edges
from A TripAdvisor MemberOn the plus side, you can't beat the free buffett breakfast with made to order omlets and the nightly Manager's reception with free drinks from 5-7 PM.
The public areas are clean, except for the pool, which is always dirty.
The rooms are clean. However, most of the rooms need to be renovated.
My last stay was in Feb 2004 and there were so many things wrong with my room, I made a list and gave it to the front desk. Some of the items were: the sliding partition between the bed room and the living would not stay on the track. There were some holes on the wall. The carpet should have been replaced years ago. The walls had stains. If I was staying longer I would have requested another room.
My next trip to Williamsburg with the family is next month and I am trying a new place because of the decline.
Great for kids!

from A TripAdvisor MemberTop Local Tips for Williamsburg
Yorktown and Jamestown are better than Williamsburg for young elementary age kid We have wanted to visit Williamsburg for many years and took our 7 yr old son there for a weekend. While Williamsburg is very interesting to us, our son much preferred Yorktown and Jamestown and we clearly understood why! Highly recommend either or both of them - we learned a lot too and felt the price was reasonable as well.
Enjoy it lots to do!! Williamsburg is a great vacation spot. There is so much to do in the area, the shopping is great, Colonial Williamsburg is great, Busch Gardens is great (a little expensive but great), Jamestown Settlement is close, the plantations around the area are great to visit, the Williamsburg Winery is the best Winery tour I have been on. And what more can you ask in an hour you are in Virginia Beach, Two and a half hours our Nations capital. If you are looking for a place to party and go dancing Williamburg is not the area....great for families andhoneymooners and older folks.
Ghost Tours Take a ghost tour one evering. Our kids loved it. We took the one run by Williamsburg Inc. so don't know about others. This one dealt with things that happened recently to employees. Others may have different foci.
