Top Local Tips for Williamsburg
In Williamsburg Do go to Bush Gardens but if you have young children under 42 inches in height be forewarned that there are limited rides in the park for them. It's a stretch to keep them occupied. However in Water Country, USA your child need only put on a life vest and can do everything. My son was 41 1/2 inches so Bush Gardens was kind of boring for him but he loved Water Country. Also, with young children, make sure you plan your Williamsburg visit around them because though it is interactive, it is really more for the adults so make sure you find things the kids are interested in to break up the day. Jamestown is so much more interactive and the children love it. There are boats to go in and teepees and forts to visit. If you have an extra day there are some great Christmas shops in the area and a pretty cool miniature golf course about two doors down from the Christmas Mouse. It's open to midnight but beware of playing the front nine in the dark - the back steps are a doozy.
Must Vist ~ Colonial Williamsburg Visitors Center The Visitors Center should really be the first stop for travelers new to Colonial Williamsburg. It's a great place to get passes, tickets, make dinner plans, learn a lot about the history and purpose to Williamsburg and of course ~ opportunities to shop! There's a terrific bookstore at the Visitors Center and my husband loves to get coffee and snacks at that store. You can even rent colonial costumes at the Visitors Center. The staff there are friendly, fast and informative ~ you won't be let down. The staff will be sure to give you maps and tips, and don't worry if the lines look long ~ they generally move really fast (they seldom seem understaffed at the Visitors Center). The Visitors Center is also where you can catch the shuttle to the historic sites ~ this is such an incredible service! No long waits for buses ~ I'm telling you this place runs like a well oiled machine! The shuttles will take you to lots of great stops ~ definetly use this service. Have Fun!
