Enchanting Experience

from Anirt
From the moment we drove up the hill and saw the beautiful setting overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, we were completely enchanted with the Iris Inn. The innkeepers were friendly, gracious, accommodating to our special requests, and just overall wonderful people to meet. They gave us great recommendations for dining in the area. The room was comfortable, spacious, and cozily appointed. (The beds were quite comfortable to sleep in, as well!) The trip was three mothers getting together for a weekend, and we found that the Duck room had plenty of space for 3 people to relax in (with a separate day bed). Then, there was breakfast - absolutely delicious each morning of our 2 night stay. The location is convenient to the highway, yet tucked away so that you feel you are in a mountain retreat. We made excursions to nearby historical sights as well as into Charlottesville itself - quite an easy trip from the inn. I heartily recommend this inn to anyone looking to stay in the area. I can't say enough about how nice, helpful, and friendly the innkeepers were!

Iris Inn: Delightful and Delicious!

from LP55
The highlight of our recent weeklong vacation in Virginia was our two-night stay at the Iris Inn. The location (tucked away on a hilltop, though not far from major roads) was outstanding and easy to find. We liked the proximity to the Blue Ridge Parkway, the Skyline, Staunton, Charlottesville and Monticello - all less than 30 minutes away. For dinner, various restaurants are nearby - but you sure do not need lunch, since the Iris Inn's breakfasts are fresh, delicious and generous! The large rooms and common area are well-appointed, very clean and welcoming - we loved watching the sun set from the swing on our balcony outside the Pine Room. Lots of large windows throughout truly bring the outside in.

But what we liked most was meeting our hosts, Dave and Heidi. They made us feel very welcome and really wanted us to be comfortable and feel at home. Their attention to detail was evident in all aspects of our stay, and they are fun and kind people.

We hope to be back before too long - and in the mean time, we are happy to tell all our friends about the Iris Inn!

Attention to every detail with excellent service and professionalism

On a week long trip through Virginia, and especially the Shenandoah National Park, I booked one night's stay at the Iris Inn after extensive research including reviews on TripAdvisor. This inn is tucked away in a quiet area of Waynesboro but is very conveniently located to restaurants and points of interest. I truly can't say enough good things about the innkeeper, Dave, (Heidi had to be out of town that evening), the property, our comfortable and beautiful room (Wildflower), the delicious breakfast, Katie (the well-loved, brilliant, and totally entertaining dog who lives in the inkeepers' quarters), the homemade cookies, coffee and tea available at all times, and the peacefulness of our stay. My only disappointment is that we only had one night to stay there. We hope to return one day and have enough time to sit on the expansive front porch to enjoy the beauty of the grounds, read a book, and relax. This inn is in the top 1% of all the inns we have stayed in, and we have stayed in many. A huge Residence Inn is being built a few miles away and we hope it doesn't adversely affect this inn's business. No way could it measure up to the quality of stay we experienced at the Iris Inn.

Loved the Iris

from BizTravels
I was traveling on business but wanted a comfortable, pleasant, quiet, friendly, and beautiful-setting kind of place to stay. The Iris is wonderful. It's set in the woods overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, is close to the Blue Ridge Parkway but yet with some great restaurants just 5 minutes away, and the innkeepers are incredibly pleasant.

I would stay here again and again.

Fantastic Stay

from lex_vc
Coming down from DC for the weekend with my girlfriend, this was an awesome getaway from the hustle and bustle of school and work! The owners were a ton of fun to talk to, the meals were absolutely amazing, and the rooms were gorgeous. The surrounding area around the hotel offers lots of great outdoor-sy experiences for nature-lovers, and I know we took advantage of the nearby Sherando Lake for a quick hike on Saturday afternoon.

Overall, the stay was nothing short of spectacular--service was amazing, and the experience was delivered above our expectations. I would highly recommend this to any one--whether close friend or acquaintance. Check it out, you're sure to love it!

Great even in a windstorm!

from thecrumz
We knew of the Iris Inn through my wife's employer and visited for Valentine's weekend. The only unfortunate thing about the trip was a 50 m.p.h. wind. We arrived and were promptly greeted by Dave and Heidi (the owners) and their wonderful dog Katy.

Dave showed us to the Hawk's Nest Suite, a generously appointed loft-style room with an outdoor hot tub. Even though the winds were howling, we made use of it. The room was very cozy and romantic featuring a king bed, full bath, kitchenette and living area with DirecTV.

We ate breakfast the next morning in the spacious main room, replete with woodland murals and silk wall hangings. Breakfast consisted of local ground coffee (VERY tasty), quiche and french toast, fruit and muffins. The room also features a wine bar, fireplace and library. The grounds would be beautiful had the weather not been so inhospitable.

Overall, Iris Inn is, in our opinion a step above most B&Bs and well worth the trip. We are from the Shenandoah Valley and would recommend the area in general and the Iris Inn specifically to any and all visitors. Iris Inn is proof that Virginia truly is for lovers!

A Relaxing Weekend

from lostatxsea
The Iris Inn is a great little bed and breakfast for a quiet and relaxing getaway. The "Deep Woods" suite was quite luxurious--with a fireplace, jacuzzi bathtub, and loft, the suite accommodated our every need. Dave and Heidi made us feel quite at home, and every meal was delicious. The serene setting is a great change from the hustle of the city, and Sherando Lake is a great place to take a short hike especially when the weather is nice. I would definitely go back to the Iris Inn again!

Cozy and friendly, felt like home

from hotrod63
From the moment we drove up to this charming Inn, we knew we had found a treasure.... Owners Dave and Heidi greeted us, along with their sweet border collie Katie... The Inn was lovely and peaceful- our room was large and rustic, with a really comfortable bed... We slept like babies there. The owners were so attentive and helpful, making suggestions for local points of interest...
Brunches daily were superb - everyone who stayed at the Inn seemed like old friends, although we had just met- we credit this to the hosts' and their warmth.... We felt comfortable enough, dining in the Inn's large dining/greatroom, at brunch each morning, to wear our slippers to the tables!
The Inn is surrounded by trees and has a wonderful view of the surrounding mountains.. We would recommend this Inn to friends and family. We would definitely want to return to this lovely place to relax and trek through the woods surrounding the Inn and visit the numerous local wineries... As gorgeous as it was in the winter, we cannot wait to see it in the springtime, so a return visit is a must.
If you like a gorgeous view, comfortable surroundings, friendly and knowledgeable hosts and breathtaking views, stay at the Iris Inn...

Perfect Getaway

We have stayed at the Iris Inn twice now and I can't say enough about the beautiful and spacious rooms and the hospitality of the innkeepers. Dave and Heidi are so gracious and truly go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need. The breakfasts are wonderful(Heidi and Cindy are terrific cooks), served in a delightful dining area perfect for conversation with fellow guests. The Iris Inn is so easy to get to and close to Charlottesville and the Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive. If you are traveling to the Waynesboro/ Charlottesville area you don't want to miss this great place to stay!!

Loved the warm atmosphere

The Iris Inn is not your "normal" bed and breakfast. It is a beautiful, serene setting for any weary traveler. It is a quite nicely appointed inn as far as furnishings go and also offers the much desired easy wireless internet access so you can stay in touch with whomever you wish. The innkeepers are quite gracious and accomodating and the morning breakfasts are to die for. Highly recommend Inn to anyone.

Top Local Tips for Waynesboro

Take time to visit nearby Staunton We had a great time visiting Staunton, especially our visit to the Episcopal Church with its magnificent Tiffany windows. Make sure you stop at the Beverly restaurant for lemon merengue pie!

Spring into action Late April, May and early June are prime time for wildflowers - though the fall is lovely too.
