Very disappointed

For the price we paid to stay at this hotel, I was very disappointed. At check-in, we found garbage on the balcony. No one ever said they were sorry. Parking was terrible. Too much noise. If this is the standard rate for rooms in Virginia Beach, we will not vacation here. I would not use this hotel again.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel

Clean, lovely, reasonable

from Cincyclan
We recently returned from a few days at Virginia Beach and (although I was wary after some of the other reviews) found the Sheraton Oceanfront to be a lovely place to stay. The front desk people were always friendly and eager to please. Our room seemed very clean and the only problem we encountered (balcony door off track) was quickly (literally in five minutes) attended to by a very professional fellow. The only negative comment I would have is the jets bothered us a bit, but that is a factor anywhere on this beach. For the price, it was a bargain to get a mini-frig, micro, coffeemaker, and a gorgeous view of the ocean!

Well remodeled, need more elevators

from linda790
I had read mixed reviews about this hotel before my trip. Here's my impressions:

-Beds are very comfortable, nice crisp sheets.
-The staff is very friendly and eager to please. I must say the service exceeded my expectations.
-Parking was always easy, with or without their valet.

-The rooms are nicely decorated, and feel new (*see ugly also). I like the feel of the design.
-I like the layout and loved my direct view of the ocean.
-Room service arrived promptly and was decent.

-The two elevators are NOT enough. There was always a wait for an elevator. I would guess on a slow weekday, they might be OK, but they need at least one more. (didn't help that one went down just as a wedding reception arrived on Saturday)
-Tractors re-grooming the beach early each morning, annoying planes dragging banners all day long.
-I'd like a screen door to keep the bugs out while allowing in the fresh air and ocean sounds.

-The sliding glass doors looked like they had not been washed in a long time. I had to leave the doors open to enjoy the view.
-The remodel was not entirely complete: most of the trim around the doors is still old and damaged. My sink was cracked.

Overall, I think I got more than my money's worth. I would most definitely stay there again.

s Beach Bikes!!!

I had the greatest experience renting bikes from Bonnie's Beach Bikes! The bikes were the best and the prices were the most reasonable on the whole boardwalk! I would reccomend this for anyone staying in Virginia Beach! The staff was friendly and very knew where to send us for dinner!

They call themselves a resort!?

The only reort-like appeal to this sheraton was lobby. I was greatly impressed with the lobby area and meeting/breakfast rooms. The pool area was unkempt but useable (indoor). Our rooms were uncomfotable to stain (in short). First off our keys were outdated as we could not enter our room we just checked in to. second our hall light didnt work and was never fixed in the duration of our stay. The bathroom door did not latch and there was not floor mat or rug in the bathroom. one night we came back to find out balcony sliding door open when we left it shut therefore occupying us with an infestation of flying bugs. There was food in one stairwell and blood in the other for our entire stay as well as roomservice trays laying in the hallways in the same spots. As i was with a rather large group of people ...the neighbors in the room between us were unbearable, and when we went to repot the disterbance we we told that we couldnt be helped at the time because we were not a gold/platinum member of the hotel. I honestly have stayed at roadside inns better kept then this so-called resort, and wouyld be ashamed to call it one at a place so lovely as virginia beach.

Worst experience ever!

We were recently guests at the Sheraton Oceanfront over Spring Break 2005. Though I must admit, the front desk staff was very friendly and pleasant. Unfortunately, this would not make up for what would lie ahead....First, we had an ant infestation in our bathroom. (very noticeable when you place the white bath mat on the floor!) Secondly, I can only say that as soon as my husband or I would lay down in the bed, we would begin to itch terribly. Our maid service did not show up until about 5:30 PM- about the time when everyone is trying to get ready for dinner. But the worst was that in the early AM, I went into our bathroom to find raw sewage standing in our bathtub. It was clogged... My husband notified the front desk and asked them to be prepared to move us to another room for showers. (We were leaving in the morning) We closed the bathroom door and went back to sleep. I woke up around 6:30 to what sounded like running water. It was the bathtub overflowing. The entire room was soaked with sewage! We called to the front desk asking for someone to help us get out and after waiting for 30 minutes, decided to call again, this time using a more threatening tone. The front desk reimbursed us for one night. However, our luggage was wet and stunk, along with clothes, shoes etc. Some things are ruined. Others, I am trying to sanitize-Gross! I feel people should be warned. Apparently this problem was not just in our room. The entire lobby was soaked. I pray that if nothing else, they replace the carpet, as the restaurant is adjacent to the lobby and regardless, this is a serious health issue.

This hotel is incredible

This hotel is INCREDIBLE!! The front desk staff was so personable and attentive to my needs. I traveled from Boston and got in very late due to bad weather. I was exhausted and had an early morning meeting to prepare for. The gentleman upgraded me to an oceanfront room which was great but it was the bed that made me so happy. I was had one the best nights sleep!

I travel to the area on business and routinely stay at a hotel by the airport. I will travel the extra distance to stay on the oceanfront to take advantage of the views but also return for the special service and the most comfortable beds in the world!

Fine once I asked to see the manager

We checked in at 10:00 pm to find what appeared to be black flaky remnants from a sink backup. Call front desk. 2 minutes later, someone appeared to wipe out sink and didn't check anything out. 5 minutes later, I washed my hands. Sink instantly filled with water. Called front desk -- someone came up and said they fixed it. Returned to room at 3:00 am to find water standing on bathroom floor. Called front desk. No maintenance available after 11:00 am so front desk brought up about 10 towels to clean up water. Put paper basket under u-pipe. Awoke at 7:00 am to sound of water. It was a flood in bathroom caused by everyone else in hotel who was currently showering. Called front desk. Asked for a room to continue sleeping. None available with beach view. Nothing appeared to be happening until I went to front desk and asked to see the manager. Manager not there, but guess what, a beach view room was just available. Asked for coffee -- got a certificate for free breakfast. No on in breakfast room to serve breakfast. Return to front desk and front desk got me a carafe of coffee.
Changed to new room. New room had no heat -- called front desk; heat never arrived until 4:00 am next morning.

Definitely One of the Better Hotels

Stayed Labor Day weekend. Had oceanview room overlooking pool. A cricket in the a/c kept us up until we called the front desk at 4am & they offered to move us to an oceanfront room w/balcony (an upgrade). All the rooms are remodeled - done beautifully (loved the blue & white color scheme). Got a wonderful night's sleep. Nice size room. Liked the location-close enough to walk to everything but not right in the middle of the action. Felt very safe. Enjoyed the indoor pool & 2 whirlpools. Excellent dinner in the hotel - friendly, attentive staff & great food. Maid service could've been better. Called 3 times before getting maid service at 5pm on Saturday. I would definitely stay here again especially after having stayed at other hotels in VA Beach. Need more elevators-took stairs a couple of times. Highly recommend !!

a Sheraton - only in name

from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I stayed here during a wedding anniversary weekend and I was disappointed. The hotel did not live up to the Sheraton standard. The indoor pool was filthy, the fitness equipment was outdated and so neglected that cables were broken or missing. The breakfast bar was unattended for the most part and lacking overall. I'm not a hotel snob, but I won't return to this Sheraton.

Wonderful Sheraton mini-resort

from A TripAdvisor Member
We have been coming to VA Beach for 30 years and our experience at the Sheraton was wonderful. Apparently they have been renovating the site and we were able to enjoy new, clean, quiet surroundings, including the outdoor pool areas/Tiki Bar. The beds are excellent! Slept like babies in the newly redecorated rooms. Room service was prompt for extra towel delivery. Had breakfast in the main dining room and also outside on terrace. WE'LL BE BACK!!!!!!!

Top Local Tips for Virginia Beach

Spring break is not the time to go None of the boats or fishing expeditions were opening until May and only one fishing pier opened on Friday(the day we left). The weather is too cold to do beach stuff and most attractions aren't open yet.

The trolly The parking in Virginia Beach is pretty limited. Once you get to the hotel you can use the Trolly to get to anywhere you want and it only cost $1.00 every time you get on. The trolly also runs until 2 am!!!

comedy Club I recommend the Funny Bones Comedy Club while you are in town! It was a blast! Great food and drinks too!
