Historical Traveller Reviews of Holiday Inn Hotel and Suites Virginia Beach Surfside
Enjoyed my stay!!
We stayed at the Holiday Inn Virginia Beach Surfside. There were a few problems with the room upon our check-in; refrigerator not very cold, and one of the phones was not working. However, they were fixed within 10 minutes of informing the front desk . We found the front desk, and other staff to be friendly and helpful. The room was very nice and clean, and the beds were really comfortable. It was off-season, so the hotel was quiet. Going to sleep to the sounds of the surf, and waking up to see the sunrise was GREAT! I would definitly stay there again.
s the best!!
We rented the king whirlpool jacuzzi suite for our trip. It was amazing, very clean, could see the ocean from the jacuzzi. Everyone seemed very friendly. In a great location with lots to do. The oceanfront balcony was very nice. I will definitely be staying here from now on. We have stayed at alot of hotels but this one beats them.
Look forward to staying here again!

My family and I travelled from Pennsylvania and rented 4 suites and the activity room to celebrate my daughters birthday this past weekend. We couldn't have been more pleased with our rooms and the way we were greeted and treated by the staff. Everyone was helpful and accomodating. We all loved the view of the ocean from our rooms. We are planning to do it again in the fall for a weekend getaway.
Good deal in the wintertime!
We visited the hotel in late December. We booked a king with a whirlpool for an amazing rate of $69! (We're Priority Club members but even without it, they were going for $85 by booking with Holiday Inn online.) If you're content with three-star quality, this hotel was great. The front desk was friendly. The room was comfortable although my ladyfriend found the mattress a little thin. The view of the ocean was awesome! (All of the rooms had clear ocean views, we were told). We could even see the ocean from the whirlpool! It was roomy enough for 2 typical-sized people and possibly 2 larger-sized people as well. The room included a mini-fridge so we skipped what appeared to be an overpriced on-site restaurant. They had a nice little wading pool with a jacuzzi. We only had two minor concerns. One was that the push-button toilet flusher did not always complete its job. Also when we left our "do not disturb" sign on most of one day, we were greeted outside our door with our replacement towels and toiletries wrapped up in a plastic bag. We thought that was a bit tacky.
Being in the heart of the off-season, there were but a few restaurants and shops open. It was unseasonably warm (around 60*) so one could have a pleasant stroll, jog or walk along the boardwalk and beach. They also had a pretty Christmas light display on the boardwalk at night which was nice to view from our balcony.
All in all, if you like the beauty of the ocean without having to actually swim in it - or worry about getting a tan - then the Holiday Inn Surfside is a good deal.
Pretty good for Off season Oct 11-13th, 2004
We wanted to go away for a few days to the beach. We book a room on the oceanfront with the whirlpool and balcony. The view was gorgeous and the whirlpool was clean. You actually smelled the disinfectant. However, a few small repairs which could have been done after the summer beach crowd were overlooked. The patio door handle was broken and someone's room service tray was left in the hallway from about 8 am until 7 am the next morning. The staff was friendly and answered any questions I had before we even checked in. The king size bed was very comfortable. For going in the off season, it was great. Fir those with kids, the room has Nintendo on screen with one controller already there. Great hotel, would do it again.

My friends and I make a yearly trip to VA beach on Easter weekend. The past two times we have gone we have stayed at this hotel and plan on staying there again. The location is central enough that its a brief walk to most restaurants, stores, etc but far enough out that its not excruciatingly loud. We stayed at the Econo Lodge on 21st St one year and the clubs across the street were loud enough to be heard the rooms late into the night. The service is always great with the employees eager to help. The rooms are clean, comfortable and tastefully appointed. The rates tend to be much more affordable than the other hotels in the area. The only downside is the restuarant in the hotel. We had breakfast there and the food was horrific. Go across the street to the Maple Tree...much better breakfast. I definitely recommend this hotel if you are going to VA beach.
Loved The Holiday Inn Virginia Surfside
My family and I stayed at the Holiday Inn Surfside in Virginia Beach based on the comments on your articles. The hotel was great. Staff was extremely helpful and nice. Hotel room was super clean. Housekeeping was great. Whatever, we needed they got it for us.
We had breakfast in the hotel. Food was very good. Service was excellent and the best yet was our granddaughter, Alexis ate for free.
We stayed at the hotel for 8 wonderful days.
I recommend this hotel highly.
Okay -- in a pinch
I usually stay in Va Beach several times a year with free Priority Club points. This hotel is not nearly as good as the Sunspree just a few blocks away. Staff was generally apathetic and while we were there at the beginning of the summer season, the indoor pool was shut down for a full day and we waited 30+ minutes for the "free breakfast" to be stocked with anything other than box cereal and warm milk. They could do better, but in a pinch for last minute travel to the beach, it's okay.
Have already stayed there 2 times, will definately stay again!
Holiday Inn Surfside is a wonderful oceanfront hotel, and also very affordable! I have stayed there two times, once in the winter ( overlooking the fabulous BoardWalk Christmas Light Display) and once the second week in July. When I went at Christmas time, I noticed how nice and clean the rooms were, and how very spacious *esp for 4 people! So, I knew that is where we were to stay in the summer. The hotel employees are very helpful and friendly. They even provided homemade cookies and fruit punch for the guests which were located at the front desk. The parking may be very limited, but not too far to walk if you happen to miss out on a front row space. This hotel comes highly recommended for those who love to stay places overlooking the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.
We enjoyed this motel. The steff was there to help you in any way. We got there at 11:00 and our room was ready for us, no waiting. Many people complained about the slow elevator but it didn't bother us.It is a super clean motel and I even noticed them cleaning the walls!.Our room was perfect and spotless. Our room didn't have a microwave and they heard us.The next thing we know, there was this nice man at the door holding a microwave! I think that this was the cleanest motel that I have stayed at here. I would recommend this motel. We will be back.
Top Local Tips for Virginia Beach
Its not like there are a ton of upscale hotels but the Hilton has a lock on the top class. If not that go with the Courtyard
The Maple Tree restaurant was very good for breakfast. For dinner, we enjoyed Abbey Road Pub & Restaurant.
We went Dolphin Watching, but you can literally see the dolphins late afternoon from your room! We went to OceanBreeze Waterpark and to LynnHaven Mall. We had a blast at every location we visited. We also went through the Haunted House.. Scary, Scary, Scary.. It was only $6 and very well worth it, but again, scary... Also, make sure you eat at Captain Georges.. great food!
