Great Hotel

from HP22
Just got back from Marriott Courtyard, Virginia Beach. After spending countless hours researching and reading the reviews, I am glad I selected the Marriott. I was a little worried because the reviews complained about the elevators but I didn’t find that to be a problem. Knowing that I request a low floor but was given the 6th floor. The average wait for the elevators was about 3 minutes. On Sunday at checkout time was when I waited the longest, which was about 5 minutes. Granted the elevator were full and the guest on the lower floors had to sometime wait for the next elevator if they didn’t want to walk down. The staff was excellent. The bellhop met us at the entrance and even gave us a short tour of the hotel. The rooms were very clean and spacious. All rooms have a balcony with an ocean view. My daughter loved watching the dolphins swim by and the Jets flying overhead in the mornings from the balcony. The bathroom was clean but the grout on the tiles in the tub area and on the floors was a little dingy. The outdoor pool is the nicest out of all the hotels in the area. The only problem was the indoor pool; I found it to be a bit dirty. If you are going to use it do in the morning while it is still clean. Overall a great hotel! I would definitely stay there again.

Forget the rest, go w/ the Best!!!

My husband & I stayed at the Marriott for our Anniversary in Aug. We loved it! Our room was a King Jacuzzi Suite. All the rooms have a private ocean front balcony. You can't get a bad view no matter what! It was great watching the dolphins. The pool was fantastic! A little cold, but lay out in the sun & it's a refreshing dip! We loved the fountains, palm trees & pool bar. Felt like we were on an island. It was also convenient to order appetizers from the restaurant, they bring them to you poolside & you can bill it back to your room. Try the Mozz. Sticks or Nachos (w/real cheese not the whiz stuff). The rooms are also nicely decorated, very clean, & the lobby was welcoming. Loved the free newspaper every day. The indoor pool was great too & just warm enough. As for VAB itself, we definitely want to go back. We normally vacation in Ocean City MD. The boardwalk there is full of stores, restaurants, crowds. We were suprised that VAB doesn't have any stores on the boardwalk. They are all on the street behind (Atlantic Ave). The boardwalk is very clean, no crowds, beautifully landscaped, & great for bike rides/walks. A cool place to see was the Cape Henry Lighthouses & Fort Story military base. I highly recommend Pocahantas Cafe (35th St.) for breakfast. They have awesome French Toast & my husband loved the Waffles. Get there before 8:30 to beat the crowd, fills up fast! Frankie's Ribs (on Laskin) was fantastic! My hubby is a rib fanatic & said they were the best he'd ever had. I had the BBQ Chicken Qtr., delicious! Best corn bread too! We also ate @ the Marriott's restaurant. The ocean view & ambiance was great. Try the She Crab Soup (creamy bisque). Scrumptious! So good, we ordered a huge bowl the next day for lunch! Captain George's Buffet was also a great choice. Excellent Snow Crab legs, Stuffed Mushroom Caps, Steamed Clams, Prime Rib, desserts. If you're looking for something quick & cheap, California Dough Boys Pizza. The cheezy bread is yummy! Next year, now that we know our way around, we plan on doing the glass bottom boat tour, Nascar IMAX Theater, & Aquarium. A word of advice, be sure to take the trolly everywhere! If you try to drive downtown, parking is trickey. Also, I do want to make a few comments about the elevators, hot tub, & the Marriott staff. The elevators weren't that bad & we were on the 11th (top) floor. It's called patience folks! The staff was excellent! Our 1st day there, we had 3 pillows on the bed. I called down for just 1 extra. They brought us 3 extra in less than 10 minutes! The staff was very friendly & helpful w/ all our questions & requests. Espec. when there was no room service in the afternoon. We wanted a small lunch, so the restaurant prepared it to go. The hot tub was relaxing, until parents allowed their children in it! There's a sign saying no one under 10 allowed! We saw several toddlers in there & the parents encouraged it! People - hot tubs can be scalding hot to a child's sensitive skin & pose drowning risks w/ the jets! I have a 6 yr. old & would never consider putting her in! We witnessed 1 mother bring her child in, while we were in it, & he was wearing nothing but a Pull Up. Hello! Feces could work it's way out & into the water! Did she think we wanted to be confined in small pool of it? It was also annoying to see hotel staff walk by, see children in the hot tub, & not say anything. Why have rules posted if they won't enforce them? I do believe that the Marriott & VA Beach are excellent places for a family vacation, but parents need to exercise common sense & keep their kids out of the hot tub -it's not a kiddie pool, that's outside! Overall, I would definitely recommend the Marriott & VAB for a fantastic vacation!

Worth every penny!!

Stayed during august 2004. Price was high (200 a night), but well worth it. Two adults, three children. Clean spacious rooms. Helpful staff. Store onsite with snacks, towels, etc. Our room had two queen size beds, with very large bathroom. A good sized living room, a kitchen, refrigerator and microwave. Two color televisions with cable. Kids watched what they wanted in one room and we stayed in the other. Absolutely fantastic. Private balcony with a great view of the ocean. Small indoor pool, larger outdoor pool. Great location, close to activities, but not in the heart of all the chaos. The only down side was the elevator. Eleven floors with only two elevators. The stairs don't open to the lobby, so that wasn't an option. Coin operated laundry machines onsite with complimentary detergent and fabric softner. Complimentary coffee and fresh baked cookes. Really enjoyed our stay .

ok...but not blown away

After reading all the great reviews we expected nothing less than top notch service and accomadations. We were traveling with our 2 young children and thier granmother and had requested early check in, a non-smoking room and a portable crib. I called the day before our trip to confim our reservations and my requests, I even asked if the porta-crib was a pack in play. The person on the other end of the phone guarennteed me that it was NOT a pack-n-play but an actually crib. (great I thought, I don't need to bring the little matress for the baby). Well, we arrived at 12:00 with a cranky and tired baby and we were told our room wasn't ready; but that they would call us when it was. And that was the end of it.

So, we took the tired kids to the beach waiting for the call. We asked about our room an hour later, and wer told we were next on the list to check in.
So my husband got the bags and tried to "check them". However, the person standing outside the hotel doing nothing, replied. "uh..i don't have a cart". After finding our own they offered to store our bags in the "soda room"

Finally at 3:00 i went to check on the room and they said it was ready "hmmm i wonder when they were going to call us?" when we got to the room...it was a smoking room with matches down low where the kids could reach, and there was no crib. When I called, they were very quick in bringing the crib, whcih by the way, WAS a pack-n-play.

The room though was very large and had a great few. It was the nicest room we have had at Va beach and we've been going for many years. It was also very clean for a beach hotel! The outdoor pool was beautiful but WAY TOO COLD to swim in. the indoor pool was ok. We did meet some very friendly staff people; however, all in all we expected much better!

In the forefront and on the oceanfront

Our four day stay here was terrific. Although we arrived several hours before the 4pm checkin time we were able to have lunch in the restaurant (the only detractor from our stay here - food is mediocre) and enjoy the beautiful outdoor pool. The waterfalls and little slide were the perfect way to unwind after the drive. The shallow areas are great for smaller children. Checkin was more than accomodating and the double queen room was sufficient for myself and two sons. The view off the balcony was perfect for early morning coffee and people and dolphin watching. My brother was just down the hall in a suite and noted that his balcony adjoined his neighbors on both sides affording him less privacy. The staff was consistently polite and professional. The location north of most of the activity was perfect for our family. We simply hopped the trolley down Atlantic when we wanted to enjoy the amusements of the Mirror Maze and Flippers arcade. My favorite thing about the location was that it is just two blocks north of Pocahontas restaurant. They have the best breakfasts ever. I highly reccomend the waffles. I would definitely stay there again.

Great time in Va Beach

from A TripAdvisor Member
After a rough check-in we had a great time in Va Beach. Arrived at 9:30 pm after 13 hour road trip with three kids (5,8 and 11). Desk Mngr. stated our room wasn't ready, did we want to go to the lounge?! No, we wanted to go to BED! So, after 15 tense mins. they upgraded us to a suite for the same price as the room I had reserved (3 months ago). The suite was roomy, clean and the balcony view was fabulous! The Boardwalk was free entertainment, with the parade of people and bikes, blades and pets all day and night. We rented bikes and road down the bike path and back. Outside pool area was beautiful, with waterfalls and a little slide, lots of shallow areas for the little ones. The beach was gorgeous and clean, not overly crowded on this northern end of the area. You could tell this area was family-oriented, versus the more 20-something area closer to the heart. Housekeeping was efficient, did a good job. One thing--we requested a lower floor (ended up on 3rd) and you should too, the elevators are SLOW-MO (there's no service elevator?). All in all, I'd go back in a heartbeat, and take our bikes!

Excellent marroitt courtyard 37th

I am returning the favor. I used the trip advisor to plan my vacation. I relied heavily on the reviews people gave the various hotels. The Marriott Courtyard on 37th was excellent. The hotel was clean, the service was friendly and the hotel was beautiful. The outdoor pool was gorgeous waterfalls and all. The small fridge in the rooms was convenient. They served hot cookies in the afternoon which my children devoured. The balcony overlooking the ocean was great. My husband enjoyed the complimentary starbucks coffee in the morning and newspaper. Most importantly the hotel was clean.

p.s. Captain Georges Restaurant was awful

Loved it but look out for the elevators

from TripleAMom
Wonderful location. Very well kept. Clean rooms. However, major problem with the elevators. There are only 2 elevators for 180 rooms. Our first night one of the elevators was out and it took forever to go anywhere. There were lines waiting to go up. In order to go down we had to go up. Very frustrating...ask for a low floor.

Something for the Family, Also!!

from A TripAdvisor Member
Travelled with my wife and 2 kids (ages 3 & 6) plus my wife's parents (you could say my in-laws). Our stay was in May the week before Memorial Day weekend.

The hotel location was excellent... parking right in front sometimes difficult but very convenient parking across the street. The hotel is very new and well-maintained... and not the usual Courtyard format.... more like a flagship Mariott hotel.

Ocean views from the balcony were outstanding with dolphins each morning. The boardwalk extends just past this hotel but being at the end made for a more private and serene setting.

Has a decent indoor pool but the outdoor pool is what sets this property above any others on the beach. The kids loved the waterfalls and small slide.

We will be back again!!

One of the Best

Wow! My family and I loved this hotel. Each room has an ocean view. We watched dolphins playing in the surf and sunrise and sunset. I highly recommend staying at this hotel. The only problem it had was that the elevators were very slow. We had to wait quite a while each time we used one and sometimes they would be full and we couldn't get on.

Must Do Go to the Ocean Breeze Waterpark. We went with a 1 and 4 year old. At 42 inches, our 4 year old son was able to do both the "big" waterslides and the toddler area. At 14 months, our daughter enjoyed the lazy river ride with mom, a baby waterslide with dad, and the toddler area with her brother. They also had some thrill slides for teenagers and great areas to sit in the sun our shade. It is located next to Motor World, a go-cart, mini-golf, type of place which we did not try but would on another trip.
