I travel often. I normally stay at different hotels all the time, I was transferred to Virginia Beach, The Clarion Resort was recommended to me buy a friend which I no longer ask his opinion. I took his word on it being a nice hotel. When I checked in, I was pretty impressed. The pool was nice, the lobby was nice, the hotel itself has a nice appearance to it. Desk staff was pleasant. But once in It was the "hotel from hell" everything there is ran down and dirty the front desk staff that was so pleasant now made me feel like the problem with the room was my fault and why are you calling down here bothering them. The elevators are broken most of the time. As for the couch in my room, I sank almost to the floor when we sat down, when I rent a hotel or as you call it a Suite I will normally sleep on the couch, but being the condition of the so call couch fold away sleeper was a joke, let's call it what it is OLD DIRTY RUN DOWN COUCH FROM THE GOOD WILL "Let me help you out" Note to YOU: replace the COUCH / FOLD AWAY, in my opinion they need to replace all the furniture, this could help cover up the lousy house keeping service that goes on there. So I started complaining and I complained and complained, that when I surprised to find out the more I complained the worse things got, finally it got to the point where I was moved OUT OF SITE OUT OF MIND, so from that point I just decided to lived with the bad service, for one reason and only one reason, I got the feeling that if I continued with the complains things there would have gotten worse, being it was already bad I didnt want to find out how much worse it could have gotten. If by chance I cross someone who 's thinking about visiting Virginia Beach to stay or buy a timeshare, I would warn him or her not to consider this location. You really dont need to tear this place down & rebuild but you should think about correcting some of the dislikes of the people staying there. Because if I wanted to live in a barn theres enough motel around that will give me that feeling.

Terrible Place

Attempted to stay in a room in January 04. Room & furniture was run-down, smelled of smoke & not keeping with the standards expected of a resort hotel. Got my money back & stayed in another hotel down the road much much nicer and at half the cost. Never again will use Clarion!!!

What a Great Resort

The Clarion Resort is a wonderful stay... I am 88 Years old and this is the kind of relaxation I needed. The concierge here at the resort was excellent, her name is Shauna. Shes wonderful. The resort manager, Tammy is great and accomodating. I liked the indoor pool, though I canno't swim. The outdoor rooftop pool bar was awesome, I did get a little tipsy I will admit! Overall, the resort is 5 stars at it's best!

I go to Virginia Beach often. I normally stay at a different hotel, but at the time I was going, they were all sold out. I was recommended to the Clarion by this hotel. I took their word on this being a nice hotel. When I checked in, I was pretty impressed. The pool was nice, the lobby was nice, the hotel itself has a nice appearance to it. Desk staff was pleasant. When I got to my room I immediately looked for cleanliness concerns. I didn't find any. Now granted I didn't "run a tissue over the carpet" or go pulling at faucet appliances, but I found my room to be acceptable. It was not a "hotel from hell" as other infrequent travelers stated. They obviously had not much experience in hotels if they consider this one to be comparable or lower than a Super 8 or Motel 6. They are not being honest. This was not a 5 star resort, but it certainly deserves more credit than what these liars are writing.

Very Happy Wedding Party

This past New Year's Eve I got married. Being from Virginia Beach, I knew I had many options to host my wedding guests, and when it came down to it, no hotel could offer you as good a rate for its high quality of excellence. I read many of the reviews on this website and was concerned, however, quickly realized, that some people just don't listen to what they are being sold. They hear what they want to hear.
The Clarion staff went out of their way to make all of my guests happy, which they were, and helped us have a great New Year's Eve wedding. The size of the rooms, the cleanliness of the entire resort, and the attitude of the staff helped make our wedding a tremendous success.

Pleasantly Surprised

We were plesantly surprised!!! We stayed at the Clarion in September Our room was much more than we expected. It was Clean Comfortable we had a full Kitchen not just a microwave and refridgerator. The Customer Service was superb !! and the View from our Double Balcony was out standing. We would recommend this Hotel to anyone. and Plan on returning again in the spring. Virginia Beach has so much to offer we were unable to see everything on our first trip.

MOLDY carpet in EVERY ROOM. Ceiling falling down! Broken lock on door. Filthy, disghusting mold every where in every room. We ran a tissue across the carpet after we found the bottom of our feet ABSOLUTELY BLACK from the MOLD on the carpet. Charged $498.00 for seven hours of stay. Sunday midnight thru Monday morning at seven a.m.! This was August 2003! Still no refund in Jan., 2004! The guarantee in the room said "If you are not completely satisfied and we cannot make it right, you will not be charged for your room." Yea, right. Not only were we charged for two nights and only stayed one, we still have not received a refund! THIS IS THE HOTEL FROM HELL!!!!

The Resort From Hell

lMy husband, grandson & I experienced a week stay @ the Clarion Beach Resort the week of Thanksgivings. This was the nightmare ofall the time-share locations I've stayed at.I was quite suprise that any time-share would investin this resort. This is just a transist hotel. Everything here is ran down,& dirty. The elevatorsare broke,and there's no good food places. As for the couche in our room, we sank almost to the floor when we sat down. I had really planned on relaxing,but couldn,t stand to look around the room.The kitchen area is about 4 feet wide & 6feet long.I prepared Thanksgiving dinner for my family,with my son coming down from Hampton, who is in the Air Force. Thank God I had cooked and frozen my turkey, & ham becaue there's no way it could have happened here. If I had found this site before booking it,there is no-way in hell we would have been there. The rating of 65 out of 85 has got to bewrong. Sorry ,You should be # 85.We ate @ several other locations & saw much better conditions from just walking around afterwards. We would never reccommend this location to anyone, & If by chance cross someone who 's thinking about visitng Virginia Beach,warn them not to consider this location.You really need to tear this place down & rebuild.Visit November 2003

A nice Stay

We arrived at the Clarion on Saturday evening, August 30. The room was ready and was very well taken care of. We were on the 8th floor and had a great view of the stage that was set up for the music festival. Note: If you have young children who need to take naps during the day do NOT stay here during the week of the festival. The music was VERY loud. My husband and I didn't mind at all though. It added to our vacation experience. The pool was nice and it was great being right on the beach. Restaurants in the area were fairly expensive so prepare to spend money on food. All in all, we had a great time and would definitely return....especially with children. Parking IS very tight but there's not much that can change with that.

Quite a Disappointment

The Clarion was quite a disappointment. First of all, at check-in they wanted to charge me more for the room then formely agreed upon. The "non-smoking" room reeked of cigarette odor. The room was dark, but fortunately we were on the first floor and could walk right out our patio door to the ocean. (That was the only plus.) There was no carpeting or sound proofing of any kind in the hallway, so I had to resort to ear plugs to get any sleep at all. I waited an hour for someone to bring me a can opener for our "Fully equipped kitchen". The indoor heated pool was tiny. The outdoor rooftop pool was dirty.
Despite the downfalls of this hotel, Virginia Beach is a wonderful place to spend a vacation. We had a lovely time despite the hotel.

Top Local Tips for Virginia Beach

if you love seafood Capt. Georges on Laskin Rd. is the best around. Gets crowded but well worth the wait for fantastic seafood.

Watch Out For The Restaurants in the Area The restaurants are not that good. They will try to send you to Captain Georges because that is probably the best you can get in their area. The rest are overpriced and don't taste so good. The restaturant next door to the hotel also have a bug problem and is very dirty inside and smell like mildew. You do better eating at the Dairy Queen or Mahi-Mah (but Mahi-Mah is expensive too except the late night menu).

Abbey Road Restaurant Stay away from this place. Lousy pub food, poor service.
