Beautiful Hotel

from Welshquin
We stayed at the Jefferson for just one night but it was an unforgettable experience. The friendliest staff we've ever come across in a big hotel; nothing was too much trouble and they invariably called us by our names, not just Sir or Madam.

The lobbies are stunning - no words can do them justice - and have to be seen to be believed.

Our room was very comfortable and quite large (deluxe room).

We dined at Lemaire and had the "Autumn Sampler", which was a set meal of about 6 courses of autumn foods with accompanying wines. It was a lovely experience.

We had room service breakfast, which was served on time, by a friendly member of staff, who went out of her way to set everything up. It was very good indeed.

All in all, a great experience which comes highly recommended.

Charming and comfortable

Beautiful lobby. Friendly and efficient staff. Extemely comfortable room with all of the luxury touches. Fabulous restaurant. Couldn't ask for anything more.

Great service and beautiful hotel

My boyfriend I recently stayed here after I learned from this hotel from its sister property, The Sanctuary. As soon as we arrived, friendly staff valet parked our vehicle. David, our front desk clerk informed us that our room was not ready, but kindly offered us a complimentary bar tab at the hotel bar, TJs. He was very gracious and said that but for the four weddings going on, he would have upgraded our deluxe room. That was ok. The hotel's lobby is incredibly beautiful and brings you back to the Glided Age. Our room was well appointed, but with a not so great view of the other side of the building and the air conditioning units. It had a marble bath and heavy terry cloth robes. The turndown service was lovely with slippers, bed mat and dark chocolate. We ordered room service which arrived hot and our ice cream was still cold (brought over ice).
We did not indulge in the Jefferson's champagne brunch, but it looked very impressive. We had a buffet breakfast in Lemaire, which was very tasty, but the service was a little slow. the hotel also has a very modern fitness area and a nice pool. For Richmond, this is definitely a top place to stay. Would recommend.

A Grand Hotel in a Not so Grand City

My husband & I spent one night at the Jefferson. We entered an absolutely beautiful lobby and were greeting by a very helpful staff. The room, although small, was well appointed and was sufficient space for one night. We heard wonderful reviews about the main restaurant, Lemaire, but did not dine. We did have dinner at the TJ's Restaurant and it was below average - infact, rather poor. The wait staff was incredibly friendly though. Our biggest complaint was the concierge service. On two occassions, they were not helpful at all - and one was actually quite rude to us. Another con is the area around the hotel - not the nicest part of Richmond, but other bars/restaurants are within driving distance. Our favorite part of the stay was the hotel itself - the design and architecture was lovely. So overall, it was a nice luxury to spend a night at such a historic hotel.

Wonderful Richmond oasis

Stayed at the Jefferson 8/20/04-8/22/04. Gracious and charming in every respect. Very efficient check-in and valet service, even on a busy weekend. The lobbies are both stunning; the rooms aren't especially showy, but are furnished with quality pieces. They're more like bedrooms in someone's Colonial home than hotel rooms. Exceptional linens, including robes. Bed was very comfortable. The bathrooms are a little on the small side, but have pretty marble countertops and floors. Bathtub smallish, but good water pressure, especially for such an old building. Elevators are slightly confusing at first, but once you learn which ones go where, you realize they're very convenient. Excellent bar service at TJ's; room service dinner and breakfast were very good and right on time. Really the only choice in Richmond for first-class service and accomodation.

One word: Wow!

Now I understand why Forbes Magazine called this the best hotel in America. It's truly an experience.

We got it on Orbitz for $179 a night for a deluxe room. After the long drive to Richmond, we arrived late at night and the friendly clerk upgraded us - we didn't ask - to a studio suite. The room had to be 600 square feet, with a full living room and everything.

Truly unbelievable. From the amazing skylights to the Jefferson statue to the famous staircase, this hotel looks like it's a movie set. It's truly breathtaking - now we know why the hotel's tagline was "We'll pick up your bags and your jaws." We felt like we were on the Titanic or something - it was just unbelievably beautiful.

Absolutely gorgeous. I've stayed in some great hotels - Loews Hotel Vogue in Montreal, Otesaga in Cooperstown, NY, plenty of Westins, etc - and this was by far the best. I want to live in that room - it was just simply amazing. Free complimentary slippers!

All in all, this is well worth the stay. The Jefferson is an attraction in itself - its history is amazing! We're planning on returning to Richmond simply to stay at this hotel again.

soundproofing needed

from dOuglask5
Service is pleasant as are public rooms. Our room was small and just ok, despite requests before arriving (when making reservation) and after arrival for a deluxe room. The problem was not the size, however. It appears that in the recent upgrade rooms were not soundproofed. We had rap music on one side, jumping sounds from above, and very audible noises from the hall. We were glad to leave after two nights. This was the worst noise we have experienced in a hotel of this calibre.

We also ate in the grill and found the service pleasant enough, but the portions small and the food overpriced.

The free in-town transpotation is a nice feature. The consierge was also very good.

Very nice hotel indeed

I'm writing this note from the free wireless Internet connection in my room at the Jefferson. I'm writing this only because I was highly wary of this hotel based on what I read on the TripAdvisor site, and I feel I should say that my wariness was wholly unwarranted.

Last year, I spent 220 days travelling, staying in hotels throughout the world, the US in particular. As a result, I've become something of a demanding customer, and look at all hotels through very critical eyes. That notwithstanding, I am delighted to report that the Jefferson is a charming hotel, with very friendly and capable staff and good amenities for the business traveller.

The free wireless internet is nice, and the rooms are well appointed and most comfortable. The restaurants are superb, and the staff make a point of referring to you courteously by name and never being underfoot (being asked how my meal is while I have my mouth full really, really ------ me off, and I'm glad they don't do it here). Also, small touches are very appealing to me, such as very new bathrobes in the rooms, good quality toiletries, secure in-room safes and well selected lighting - these things separate great hotels from good ones.

While the fabled staircase is nowhere near as pretty as it was before the last refit or two, judging from their historical exhibit in the corner of the Rotunda, this is a lovely property which does everything which could be asked of it, and I recommend it wholeheartedly.

I would liken this hotel to the Governor Hotel in Portland, the Hermitage Hotel in Nashville, the Fairmont Palliser in Calgary or the Plaza Hotel in New York (although mercifully less gauche than that). Nice company to be in.

The Jefferson is Fabulous!!

We recently stayed at the Jefferson Hotel and were awed by the surroundings and the service. The Five Star Restaurant, Lemaire, certainly deserves its rating for both food and service and we enjoyed a pre-dinner drink at the cigar-friendly TJ's in the Hotel Rotunda. Best of all, our dog Maisie was made most welcome. Our stay was such a wonderful experience that we have decided to go back there for our honeymoon in late June.

Friendliest and finest hotel

from UrbaneYouth
The Jefferson hotel is amazing in every aspect. It is by far the friendliest hotel I've ever stayed at. The staff from the bellboy to the to hostess to the limo driver were friendly, helpful and enthusiastic. The very spacious rooms were a unique blending of late Victorian grandeur with every modern convenience. It certainly deserved its 5 diamond and 5 stars.

Top Local Tips for Richmond

Traveling within Richmond You can have them park your car and then forget about transportation, since The Jefferson will drop you off and pick you up anywhere you want to go in Richmond, relieving the guest of concerns about directions, etc. We did not take advantage of this feature this time, but will next time.

A must try!! If you're in to fine dining, you must try Copper Grill at Short Pump Mall!!

OMNI hotel Keep dimes in your car. There is a toll on the way to the hotel which charges 2. 2 dimes that is. St Johns' church is famous for "give me liberty or give me death'. We enjoyed the history.
