Great Location

As I read some of the other reviews I wondered if they had stayed at the same hotel. Our room 1209 was beautiful, clean and spacious. There were a couple of stains on the carpet but that is hardly a major issue, I don't do a lot on the floor except walk.The bathroom was large and spotless.
Parking is expensive but with unlimited in and out it was what I wanted and frankly with prices in New York and Boston at over $30, $18 is not a bad deal.
The free shuttle is a great asset too , we used it to drop us off at the Museum of the Confederacy.
There are many excellent restaurants in the area and even the hotel bar isn't bad.
I really only had one issue with the hotel and it was the restaurant. On our last day we ordered english muffins and a bagel with our complimentary juice and coffee and they arrived cold and not cooked. Gross. I called down and we had to bring them down to show them. Please!!!. We also only got one coffee and one juice. The other two days were fine but we didn't order food. The coffee and juice with newpaper was delivered right when they were scheduled to arrive.
I would not hesitate to stay here again especially if could get the price I got from priceline.

Great Hotel for the Priceline price

This hotel is a 4 star hotel but the rooms are 3 star quality. The hotel is located in downtown Richmond and within walking distance of everything. The hotel lobby and restarant is of 4 star quality but the rooms were not. I would return to this hotel again only if I was able to secure the Priceline price of $64. The parking is a rip off even if you park in the garage at the hotel they still charge $18 but the sign says $3. It was difficult to find the $3 parking across the street as the others suggested. My first room smelled like smoke and the beds were missing sheets. I called the front desk and they quickly brought up a new set of keys to another room. This room was a lot better. Overall my hotel stay was great. Friendly and helpful staff!

Dirty, dinge-y but exceptional staff!

My entire family was in for my brother's wedding in August 2005. Here's what the consensus was: 1) no water pressure in the showers 2) and sometimes, no hot water 3) the rooms are dirty and need to be updated 4) the pillows smell 5) the restaurant is HORRIBLE 6) room service was edible and not overly expensive 7) amenities are few 8) the bathrooms are moldy

The good things about the Omni Richmond? The free wireless internet and the great staff. Everyone is friendly, overly accommodating and personifies the true meaning of southern hospitality. From the housekeeping staff, the front desk, management and valet staff -- everyone is top notch and professional. Hotels should have their customer service training at the OMNI RICHMOND!

However, the highest marks are for the staff, only. If only the staff had better facilities to match their hard work!

A Great Stay

We spent two nights there and were very pleased. The staff was very helpful, the room was comfortable and the hotel was convenient to the places we wanted to see and visit. I would agree that parking is too expensive, and the three dollar lot across the street does not allow overnight parking so that option is no longer available. We would definately stay here again.

Pros and Cons

I stayed at the Omni for two nights while attending my father's wedding this summer. The hotel is located in a very interesting, historic district of Richmond, surrounded by fabulous restaurants and interesting historic sites. They gave me a corner room on the 17th floor with a view of the James River out one side and office buildings on the other. I enjoyed my view! The room was just right for one person, but for two it would be a little cramped. The room itself was very, very comfortable. The bed was of very good quality as were the linens. I made use of room service quite a few times and found the staff to be helpful, polite and efficient. The food was excellent.
My only complaints were the price of parking; $17. A bit much for a small city like this one. I also needed to use the internet to conduct some business but when I got to the "business center" I found one computer in a small room with a post-it note saying that they were having connection problems. When I tried to use the internet on the TV in my room it was completely worthless. The screen was magnified so that you could only see 1/6 of a web page at a time, you couldn't see the text it was so blurry, it took about 2-3 minutes to load a text page and it wouldn't let you chat with anyone, which is what I needed to do to take care of some business that I NEEDED to do. The last straw was when the TV started buzzing and the screen turned to nothing but horizontal lines of snow. I made them take the internet use fee off of my room charge when I checked out. They should not promote this hotel as good for business travellers until they fix this problem!
Aside from the internet problems, I was very comfortable at this hotel and will stay here again the next time I need to be in Richmond.

Not as luxurious as expected

I had just returned from two other trips in the United States, both of which I stayed at Westin Hotels. Based on the Omni being rated #2 in Richmond, I was expecting it to be nice-on par with the Westins. Boy, was I surprised. I think it was a hotel "trying" to be luxurious, but not putting into it whatever is required to make it so.. everything seemed slightly worn, stained, dirty, not quite up to a better hotel's level of cleanliness. The decor was kind of "fake" nice. In our room , the lamp on the desk was all broken and ripped. The pool area seemed very depressing and unclean. There seemed to be a lack of knowledgeable workers. When i would ask for directions or info on most things in the area, there was always a hesitation or a not really being sure about particulars. If you are traveling for business, you probably wouldn't care as much, but if you are on vacation,it felt very isolated and not near a whole lot of stuff. The city seems, in general, kind of run down and in need of refurbishing and I think the hotel has the same feeling. To be fair, some of the workers were quite nice and pleasant. But overall, there was a very ordinary feel to the place and I felt that its being positioned as a more upscale hotel in the area. For the extra money, I should have splurged on the Jefferson.

We stayed at the Omni for 2 nghts in March 2005. We actyally enjoyed what the hotel had to offer, the bedding was very nice, and the room clean and pleasant, with an upscale feel. I would not call Richmond a party city, but right next door there are plenty of restaurants and nightlife, including Tobacco Factory with its funky decor and nice bar. Traveling with the laptop, we found free wireless inernet at the Omni a big plus.

On the downside: we were not able to get a nonsmoking room with a King-size bed. Also, parking fee is too high in comparison to $3 overnight parking across the street (hat tip from another tripadvisor user). Right next to a bunch of highways, the views are not that great.

All in all, an anjoyable experience at the quality hotel.

Thank goodness it was only one night.

My wife and I stayed at the Omni in Richmond for only one night in June 2005, and thankfully, that's all we'll ever stay at the Omni.

Upon checkin, we were not told of the unlimited garage use with the $19/day valet service. Thus, we spent about $10 extra on parking with the hourly rate.

When we arrived to the "smokeless" room, my wife immediately noticed a strong smoke smell in the room that stayed with us for the entire night and morning. The room itself seemed to be in decent condition, however, I did notice some stains on the carpet and chipped and cracked furniture. In fact, most of the furniture around the hotel seemed to be very old -- and not in a nice, antique way, but busted up like a cheap chair.

The elevators were extremely slow on many occasions. Is there only one elevator running at 4pm in the afternoon?

On Sunday, while in the lobby area of the hotel, we were approached by someone begging for change. There was not any security in sight, and thankfully, the man went away peacefully.

Having stayed at a very nice hotel the previous weekend, the Omni shocked us both into mediocrity. The Omni is not a step up from any other budget hotel.

Great hotel in a great location

We stayed here during a weekend visit to Richmond. Had a king room on the 17th floor. The room was very clean and had more than enough room for the two of us. The hotel is located downtown and just steps from multiple restaurants, bars, etc.

Additionally, the omni special guest program is running a deal for 1/2 price weekends if you join before your reserve the room - worth the effort and got us a $56/night rate.

As for parking, use the $3 public garage across the street and skip the $19 valet or $18 self-park.

The only real negative is that the fitness center, located in an adjoining building's YMCA, costs extra and is only open limited hours.

A so-so expierence

Stayed in the Omni for two nights in early April 2005. Although the lobby and downstairs area is beautiful the rooms are average at best and perhaps below average considering the price you may pay to stay at this hotel. We were there for a conference and were able to secure a nightly rate of $85, well below the average rate. Had we not paid so little, my critiques would be much more harsh. As it was, the room we were in on the 9th floor was very poorly insulated against sound. We heard the room next to us whenever they turned on the TV or spoke at more then a hushed level. In addition, despite being on a non smoking floor it appeared that someone in the room ajoining ours was smoking and our room would smell like smoke whenever they did. I contacted the front desk about this 3 times and they promptly checked it out but were unable to solve our problem.

All in all not a bad hotel but certianly not a place I would stay again for more then $100 a night.

Top Local Tips for Richmond

Canals Great city, friendly people, very historical. Can only walk the canal from spring to fall. Most attractions reasonably priced.

Near 95 Its got a lot of history.. Take a day or two to explore on the way to or from the south

Carytown Women this is the place to shop for things you will not see on everyone - great boutiques.
