A beacon of hospitality
from Cottonwoodweekend at this property. Amidst a bevy of nondescript hotel properties, the Hampton Inn and Suites DCA has risen above its competition by providing clean, comfortable accommodations at a fair price. From its welcoming lobby to its spotless rooms, the staff of this hotel takes pride in providing a pleasurable guest experience that comes with a 100% guarantee.
The room I was assigned had a soothing color palette and comfortable furnishings. Complimentary Internet access is provided in the rooms (wireless was in the lobby and meeting rooms) and the desk had ample work space. This property has also been selected to test market their new "Hampton bed"; this bed has plusher linens, and all of the bedding, including the bedspread and pillows, is freshly laundered instead of just the sheets being washed while the "decorative bedspread and pillows" get cleaned less frequently. The bed also had a portable "lap desk" which made it easier to work from the bedroom. The bathroom had numerous bath products and the shower had a curved rod that enlarged the showering space. Most impressive was the cleanliness of the room. I'm a stickler for dirt and this room was spotless! Also there was no airport noise or excessive noise from other guests. I did not use the pool area so I cannot comment on this feature.
The complimentary breakfast featured both hot and cold items and was a definite plus in the morning. The hotel's location is convenient to surrounding restaurants and attractions. The Metro stop is nearby and there is complimentary airport pickup and drop off. Compared to the prices of neighboring hotels, the Hampton Inn and Suites DCA is definitely more "bang for the buck". I have recommended this property to all my local clients as it certainly is tops with me whenever I return to Washington.
Excellent in every way
from waynelaw78The location is very convenient, a short walk from the Metro, and with a shuttle for area restaurants, the airport, and the huge mall nearby. The service and cleanliness are excellent, along with the breakfast and 24-hour coffee in the lobby. There is a pharmacy with groceries within walking distance, and a gas station nearby. Cabs are plentiful.
Staff is very accommodating, cheerfully allowing early check-ins when possible. The business center is small but free. The pool and fitness room are adequate, though not fabulous, but why quibble?
If you can snag a special rate, this hotel is really a great value. I just paid $153 when every other hotel in the area was getting $300 or more.
Great stay, would return...
from stimpsjdOur room was a handicap-accessible king located on the 10th floor. This is important to note because our bathroom, though large, had an extremely small vanity. If you will be sharing the vanity it is important to make sure you have a standard room and not an accessible one.
The hotel is a 5 minute brisk walk from the Metro blue/orange line. Most sites are $1.50 or less away on the Metro. There is a great line of restaurants on 23rd just about 2 blocks away and Crystal City has every fast food restaurant (McD's, Subway, Chipotle, etc.) and a number of service shops.
The Hampton is attached to and owned by the same company as the Radisson. The Radisson was a former Days Inn which was converted. The Days Inn parking lot was then converted to the Hampton Inn. It is probably 2 or 3 years old at the most. The personnel that worked there were quite good, from the front desk, to van drivers to the housekeepers. I think that is what sets them apart the most.
Positives: Employees, Location, Cleanliness
Negatives: No Hot Tub, You can hear the room next to you
great stay
from ldpI accidently left my cell phone there and housekeeping found it during the afternoon cleaning and had it ready for me. I highly recommend this hotel.
Enjoyed my stay!
from dave1013Check-in was swift and I was pleased with my room, esp. the vast array of approx. 60 television channels and wired, free high-speed internet access (make sure to get your access code when you check in). My stay was during the Tour de France and they had the Outdoor Life Network (very rarely available in the hotels I have stayed at). The room's air conditioner had plenty of punch to it - it kept the room confortably cool at less than maximum setting - and was not excessively noisy. The room and bathroom were both very clean. Housekeeping service was attentive and prompt. The only time I heard other guests was when someone slammed their door shut. As others have noted, you will not hear aircraft noise.
Self-service laundry is on the 3rd floor, $1.25 to wash and the same to dry. I had a problem with one of the dryers, after putting in the third quarter the control display gave me an "ERR" (i.e., error) message. It would not give me my three quarters back and instead of putting the final two coins in to see if that made a difference, I went down to the front desk to advise them of this apparent problem. The manager went back to the laundry room with me, whereupon he gave me three quarters and we got the other dryer going. Moral of the story here is that the situation received prompt attention and was resolved to my satisfaction. By the way, the dryer was very hot and still going after an hour, when I was running out of time and decided to remove my clothing. You get a lot for your $1.25 here!
My visit was during a time of oppressive heat and humidity, and my business was in the District. This necessitated a walk to the Crystal City Metro Station, about a block and a half distant. Even though the conditions were pretty miserable, esp. in the afternoon coming back, the walk was short enough that it was tolerable. The "shortcut" to the Metro station is to go out the back door, and then turn right. Follows Eads Street to 18th Street, where you will see the Marriott Crystal Gateway. At that point, you can go into the Marriott lobby and follow the inside pathway to the Metro station (go left diagonally upon entering the hotel) or you can cross 18th and turn right on the sidewalk, go underneath the overpass, and access the Metro station that way. Staying on the street is OK in the fall, winter, and spring - but going inside for the last part may be preferable to those who want to escape the withering summer heat for a bit.
There are many other hotels in the vicinity. The Radisson is right next door and the Hilton is a block to the south. The Hampton is closer to the Metro station, which during the summer can be a big deal. Good restaurants are a block or so away - take a right out the front door, or a left out the back door. It's an easy walk even in the summer heat and humidity. The sports bar, located to the right off of Eads a block from the hotel - was quite good. There are also Italian, Lebanese, and Japanese eats in this block-long offering of local restaurants. Legal Seafoods is off of Jefferson Davis Highway. The 7-11 is close by the local restaurants. I never saw the CVS Pharmacy but did find a Rite-Aid in the mall at the Metro station.
The breakfast was standard Hampton fare - an egg and meat offering in the morning, plenty of everything and kept that way by the attentive staff.
The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service to nearby Reagan Airport. You call for pickup upon arrival after having claimed your bags. The return service is on demand and the driver waits by the front desk for prospective customers.
Good location and great service make this an excellent choice. I very much enjoyed my stay.
Great DC area hotel....
from Eric95403The swimming pool was adequate. The one problem with the pool was the limited hours it was open. 6am-10am, then 6pm-10pm. There wasn't a lifeguard or hotel staff watching over swimmers, so I don't know why the hotel had limited hours. It seemed rather odd, and my kids were disapointed when they could not swim in the late afternoon after a hot day around DC.
One thing to watch out for and I never truely knew who's fault this was. When originally making my reservation, I noticed the hotel had a room with a separate bedroom off the living room (and a sleeper sofa in the living room). We definately wanted that room, as while I love my two kids...I like the idea of sleeping in a different room (since my youngest snores and is a restless sleeper). Anyway, the hotel website didn't differenciate the room I wanted too well, so I contacted the hotel directly to find out which room I should book. They told me and I booked my room. When I arrived and went to my room, it was not the room I wanted. My reservation said I had a 1br suite (which I was told to book), but this had everything in one SMALL room. I went downstairs and was told I booked a JR. Suite (although my resv. said I had otherwise). I was also told the hotel was completely booked and I was stuck. After some serious typing on her computer, the front desk person found me a room I had originally wanted. My father in law (whom I made their resv for and also requested the same room type), was not as fortunate. He got stuck with the smaller room for his family. I felt bad, but I did everything they told me to do and was still somehow wrong. I really think they overbooked the room and tried to squeeze us into what was available. Luckily, I wasn't charged extra for the much larger room. Just be aware if you want this type of room. It's not too clear on the website.
great hotel great staff great location
from A TripAdvisor MemberHAmpton Inn was a winner
from A TripAdvisor MemberOverall, I highly recommend the hotel.
Just short of perfect
from timskumwiEverything was very clean and appealing. The complimentary soup on Monday - Thursday evenings was a nice surprise. The hot breakfast featured 4 different menus, but also included a wonderful pineapple/orange/grapefruit dish every day.
The Metro is easy to find, as are convenience store, drug store, and restaurants.
Excellent hotel at reasonable price for the area
from nmgirlTop Local Tips for Arlington
Great place to eat: Don't miss Ted's Montana Grill in Crystal City. Walking distance from the Hampton. Very tasty food and great service. They even have a kid's menu, altho it doesn't look or feel like a "family" restaurant!
Love the Metro! The easiest system you'll ever navigate.
Metro at the Crystal City location First time visitors with children, don;t be intimidated by using the Metro. The Metro staff at the Crystal City stop were extremely helpful and friendly, possibly because of this being a tourist area we found this to be the only location where a Metro employee stood as you came in by the fare machines and actually asked if anyone needed any help. They are very helpful and informative. Don't be afraid to use the Metro!!!
